GTX 980 dans un mini PC. Le ZBox EN980 est l’un des premiers mini PC à être "VR Ready" (prêt pour la réalité virtuelle) et, étonnamment, il fonctionne plutôt paisiblement et sans trop chauffer, grâce à son système de refroidissement efficace. Néanmoins, au ralenti, le ventilateur aurait pu être moins bruyant, et quelques fonctionnalités clés sont absentes pour un appareil à 1 600 $.

Le ZBox EN980 n’est pas le mini PC le plus petit ou le plus léger, mais utilise parfaitement son surplus de taille, avec un système de refroidissement très efficace. Même comparé à des ordinateurs portables de jeu comme le GT72S, ou la série Asus G752, le bruit des ventilateurs et les températures sont faibles lors des montées en charge, pour un potentiel plus élevé d’overclocking du GPU. Il est d’une conception très solide, quoique terne dans la forme, plus pratique que pompeux.

Pour les 1600 $ demandés, cependant, nous pensons que le portable aurait pu faire encore mieux, en ajoutant par exemple le NVMe, le RAID ou le Thunderbolt 3, ainsi qu’un meilleur contrôle de la ventilation, comme c'est le cas sur les portables de jeu dans cette gamme de prix. Le bruit des ventilateurs au repos aurait également pu être plus faible. L’appareil aurait aussi pu tirer profit des meilleures options de la gamme core i7, à la place du Core i5 installé, qui manque légèrement de puissance en multitâche. Les faibles températures de fonctionnement du CPU suggèrent que la solution de refroidissement aurait été suffisante pour des processeurs plus rapides : Zotac devrait réutiliser ce châssis !

Avec Pascal maintenant disponible, à la fois pour les ordinateurs de bureau et les ordinateurs portables, nous nous attendons à ce que l’EN980 (et les autres appareils Maxwell) baisse de prix dans les mois qui viennent. Sa conception et ses performances graphiques sont excellentes, tant que cela ne gêne pas trop les utilisateurs de perdre certaines fonctionnalités matérielles et de connectivité.
