Ceux qui trouvent qu'un 15.6 pouces sont trop petits, se dirigerons vers les 17 pouces. Le R780 se fait tester par nos soins dans les mêmes conditions que le R580. Le Core i5-520M et la GeForce GT330M sont de très bons composants. Lisez la suite pour savoir si ce portable est pour vous.

Le modèle soeur, le Samsung R580, est un modèle avec un bon rapport qualité prix il y a un mois. Le fabricant a combiné un Core i5-520M (2.4 GHz) avec une nouvelle carte graphique de chez Nvidia, la GeForce GT330M (1024 Mo DDR3). C'est un choix très intéressant pour un portable en dessous de 800 euro.

Est-ce que le 17.3 pouces, avec une configuration similaire, peut rentrer dans la liste de Noël? Avec un prix inférieur à 900 euro très attractif. Il n'y a pas de surprises du coté technique. Le R780 est un système multimédia performant, sur lequel les jeux récents tournent parfaitement. Mais le R580 a aussi ses défauts, nous allons voir si c'est la même chose avec le grand frère.

Le châssis du R780-Hero est comme son homologue 15 pouces. Le motif rouge et noir est du plus bel effet. Les couleurs changent en fonction de l'éclairage. Mais sur la version 15 pouces il n'y a plus l'effet 3D.

Mais les surfaces brillantes du repose poignet ne sont pas terribles pour les traces de doigts.

Le boitier est vraiment de qualité moyenne pour ce qu'on trouve sur le marché de nos jours

On plie le châssis facilement. Le repose poignet est stable mais les touches plient un peu. Le clavier plie carrément au niveau du lecteur DVD. Le dos de l'écran est lui aussi trop souple.

Les charnières sont tellement raides qu'il faut les deux mains pour l'ouvrir.

Le cache inférieur est assez solide même s'il plie au niveau des aérations. Il est possible de changer le disque dur, la RAM ou le module WiFi. Cela ne s'applique pas au processeur. Le Intel Core i5-520M est assez difficile à remplacer.

Connectivité

On trouve presque tout l'éventail des ports sur ce portable. En dehors de la prise Ethernet et VGA (D-Sub), nous découvrons une sortie HDMI sur la gauche. Un slot ExpressCard34 est également à bord. Avec le slot expresscard, cartes mémoire, cartes TV ou les contrôleurs peuvent être insérés. Tout le côté gauche est occupé par des prises. Afin d'épargner le trop plein, Samsung combiné le port eSATA avec l'USB. Alors, si vous souhaitez utiliser un disque dur eSATA, vous aurez seulement trois ports USB à gauche.

Les connexions sont accumulées sur le côté gauche. C'est pratique pour les droitiers. La souris peut être placée sur la droite où les câbles gênent pas. Les gauches sont désavantagés parce que le port eSATA particulièrement encombrant et les câbles HDMI sont fâcheusement en zone d'activité de la souris externe. C'est dommage que la place à l'arrière ne soit pas du tout utilisés pour les connexions. Les charnières empêchent l'utilisation de ce côté-ci.

Le lecteur de carte a été placé sur le devant du R780. il est assez difficile d'accès.

Dispositifs d'entrées

Clavier

Le design minitel ne vas pas bien avec le retour mou des touches. C'est dommage car le clavier est trop souple. l'écran 15.6 pouces du R580 est bien plus stable à cet égard.

De l'autre coté les touches sont de bonne taille et l'écart est assez agréable pour les dactylos. Le pavé numérique est pratique pour les fan d'Excel. Les touches directionnelles sont trop petites.

Touchpad

Le touchpad est au même niveau que le repose poignet. Il est moins glissant mais on peut le trouver avec les doigts seulement. Il supporte le multitouch ce qui est pratique. Mais les boutons sont très bas de gamme.

Le Samsung R780-Hero possède un écran 1600x900, ce qui est typique des 17 pouces (WSXGA). Un écran avec une résolution moins dense (1366x768) aurait été trop faible. L'écran (type Chi Mei N173O6-L02)est un écran brillant donc inapproprié pour bosser en exterieur.

Le contraste est faible à 219:1. On aurai préféré un contraste supérieur à 400:1 pour être un bon portable multimédia. Le R780 possède un espace colorométrique faible. On retrouve le même problème sur le R580-Hawk.

L'écran 17.3 pouces LED est n moyenne à 207 cd/m2. C'est suffisant pour l'intérieur mais pas pour l'extérieur.

L'écran est trop brillant pour l'extérieur. De plus avec les surfaces brillantes et le poids de 2900 grammes plus 455 grammes pour l'adaptateur, a vas être difficile pour bosser dans le jardin. Le Samsung R780-Hero sera plutôt un compagnon de salon.

A l'horizontale on perd déjà l'acuité visuelle à 35 ° et carrément 10° à la verticale.

Il sera donc difficile de voir le contenu à plus de 2 personnes.

Performances

Le R780-Hero, possède un Core i5-520M. Le R780-Herrix (NP-R780-JS01DE/SEG) ne possède qu'un i3-330M, dispo à 200 euros de moins.  Le 520M Arrandale possède deux coeurs à 2.40 GHz. mais peuvent aller entre 2.40 et 2.93 GHz avec le Turbo Boost. L'overclocking est dynamique

Le Hyper Threading permet surtout de doubler virtuellement le nombre de coeurs.

Le Core i5-520M est épaulé par 4096 Mo de RAM DDR3. Ce qui est le standard aujourd'hui.

La configuration du R780-Hero fait de lui un PC performant bon à tout faire. Dans PCMark Vantage il est à 6026 points soit un PC puissant. Les i7-720QM, 820QM sont à peine plus puissant. La mySN QXG7 avec sa 920XM Geforce GTX280M est à 7599 points pour le même test.

PCMark Vantage teste aussi le disque dur de 500 Go du même fabricant. Avec 6419 points 3DMark, la GeForce GT 330M influe peu sur PCMark.

Le i5-520M du Samsung R780-Hero est très rapide. Il est plus rapide qu'un Core 2 Duo T9800 à 2.93 GHz dans la plupart des cas. Le i5-430M (2.26 - 2.53 GHz) est bien moins puissant en multi-tâche. Soit 428 points (R780-Hero 6.817 points) pour séparer les deux processeurs dans Cinebench R10.

Un disque dur de 5400 rpm de chez Samsung. Avec 500 Go (Samsung HM500JI) il a une vitesse de lecture de 67.7 Mo/s (en lecture séquentielle). Ce qui aide le R780  à avoir des bonnes notes dans PCMark Vantage. Il est très silencieux en plus de tout ça.

Wie wir testen - Leistung

Samsung nous propose une Nvidia GeForce GT 330M avec 1024 Mo de VRAM DDR3, la puce elle même est à 575 MHz, la mémoire à 790 MHz. Le modèle 15.6 pouces, R580-Hawk, possède les mêmes spécifications.

La GT 330M est une carte de moyenne gamme. 3DMark2006, note 6419 points (1.280 x 1.024). Donc, la GT 330M est au même niveau que la Mobility Radeon HD 4650 avec une dual core puissant. La HD 5650 est 500 points au dessus dans 3DMark2006. Mais aussi avec le Core i7-720QM. Le Acer Aspire 8942G-334G64Mn avec le i3-330M, la ATI GPU est à 6540 points dans 3DMark2006.

3DMark2006 est un test sévère pour les ordinateurs, les jeux tournent généralement mieux.

La plupart des jeu tournerons sans problème mais pas à pleine résolution.

Risen (2009)

Le Samsung R780 est à 27 fps dans Risen en détails moyens (1024x768, medium, 2x AF). Risen n'est pas jouable en pleine résolution et high details (4xAF). Vous aurez besoin au moins d'une GeForce GTX 260M ou mieux, une ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 et un i7-720QM. La GT 330M est trop faible pour ce jeu.

Crysis CPU/GPU Benchmarks (2007)
Crysis n'est pas jouable avec tout les détails et en faible résolution (1024x768) à 22 fps. Le jeu ne profite pas de plus de 2 processeurs (hyperthreading). Même un T6400 (2.2 GHz), dans le Samsung's R522 (Mobility Radeon HD 4650) est à 28 fps. Le Samsung R780-Hero est au niveau de la GeForce GT 240M dans le benchmark de Crysis GPU (1024x768, high details). Pour y jouer en WSXGA, le Core i5-520M devrait être au moins accompagné d'une Crossfire ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2.

World in Conflict (2007)
Le jeu profite bien du nombre de processeurs. Le i5-520M donne l'impression de booster le GPU à des niveaux plus élevé (GeForce 8800M GTS, GeForce 9700M GTS) mais il n'est jouable qu'en 1024x768 (high details) à 29 fps. Ce serai plus rapide avec une ATI HD 5650, avec 45 fps avec le même processeur. Dans la génération précédente une HD 4850 aurait fait l'affaire.

Left4Dead (2008)
Le jeu tourne à 66 fps en 1024x768 en détails hauts. On peut donc jouer en pleine résolution mais pas à plein détails.

FarCry2 (2008)
Le jeu tourne à 35 fps en 1024x768 et détails élevés. Donc aucune chance pour 1366x768; mais Farcry 2 s'en fout du processeur. Un i7-720QM reste à 35 fps avec la GeForce GT 330M (Sony Vaio F11Z1).

Race Driver Grid (2008)
On est à 29 fps en 1280x1024 (high, 2xXMSAA). A 50 fps (1280x1024) ça laisse de la place.

Anno 1404 (2009)
Le jeu passe en 1280x1024 et détails très élevés (very high). C'est possible avec la GeForce GT 330M. On était à 26 fps. Pour y jouer à pleine résolution il faudrait une GTX 260M ou une HD 4850. Qui vont au delà des 40 fps en 1280x1024, ce qui rende 1600x900 un brin plus réaliste.

F.E.A.R. 2 (2009)
F.E.A.R. 2 tourne très bien en 1280x1024 et détails élevés (high, 4xAA): 34 fps.

Bruit système

La bureautique est d'un silence absolu, les ventilateurs ne se mettent en marche que pour quelques secondes toutes les heures.

Dans le mode silence les ventilateurs ne seront pas allumés du tout.

Mais le processeur sera à 1.2 GHz. Mais il est possible de passer à 2.4 ou 2.8 GHz avec le turbo boost. Donc il est possible d'avoir beaucoup de puissance ou d'économiser l'énergie avec le même processeur.

Il y a aussi un "Speed mode" qui n'est pas vraiment plus rapide que le mode normal.

Le système est à 35.3 dB(A) dans les jeux. Avec à la base et sans rien faire dessus 29.9 dB(A), c'est très silencieux pour un système aussi puissant. Les ventilateurs sont à 38 dB(A) à pleine puissance. Le R780 est même plus léger que le petit frère le R580, avec une configuration identique.

Le Samsung R780-Hero est un 17 pouces qui consomme peu et qui peu devenir puissant. Le R780 peut devenir très silencieux. Le processeur Intel Core i5-520M (2.40 GHz) avec la Nvidia Geforce GT 330M et les 500 Go parlent d'eux mêmes.

Mais les écrivains seront déçus par la qualité du clavier. Les fans de musique utiliseront leurs écouteurs. Et les cinéphiles seront déçus par les angles de visions de l'écran.

Mais avec un prix de 900 euro c'est un rapport qualité prix impressionnant. Il sera possible de faire tout tourner dessus mais pour les jeux récents il faudra travailler dans les réglages pour profiter des jeux.

Il y a un paquet de 17 pouces sur le marché, mais celui ci propose un rapport qualité évident.

Il n'y a personne avec cette configuration là à 900 euro avec un Core i5 et une bonne carte graphique. Il y a le Acer Aspire 7740G (434G64Bn) et le HP Pavilion dv7-3128eg (WA003EA) pour 800 euro.
