A powerful, flexible, sturdy and well designed portable all-rounder, the Dell Latitude E6400's design and functionality caters very well to the needs of a wide range of users, be they relatively undemanding users who want something practical and long lasting, to power users that need to multitask extensively while on the move. Throw in a pleasing but serious aesthetic design and it becomes very easy to recommend.

The Dell Latitude E6400 is a great performer and a solid replacement for the Dell Latitude D630. It seems to be built well enough to be thrown around in day-to-day use, and it's clear that Dell is trying to improve the Latitude line and offer compelling features ... like 19-hour battery life. We really couldn't find any major reason to dislike the E6400, but there are a number of "minor annoyances" that could make some businesses look elsewhere. As we mentioned, although the E6400 proved to be quite durbale during our tests, the alloy chassis is thin in some locations which makes the notebook "feel" less durable than it actually is. We're certain the thinner alloy sections where used in order to keep weight as low as possible, but flex is something you don't want to see in a business notebook. Overall, corporate clients who are looking for the next generation of business notebooks from Dell have plenty of reasons to buy the E6400.

With its angular black mittel-Europa executive styling - BMW rather than Lexus - the Latitude E6400 certainly looks the part of a serious business machine. It provides all the connectivity - network and peripheral - you could wish for and decent performance, all at a surprisingly middle-management price. An excellent machine - as long as you're not intimidated by the styling. It is the law.

We caught our first glimpse of Dell's new Latitude E-series when we came face to face with its semi-ruggedised E6400 ATG laptop. With a suitably burly build and plenty of carefully focussed business features, it was a promising debut for the range. Dell's latest business model is another superb outing for their recently released Latitude E-series. It's not cheap, though.

Priced at $1,463, the Dell Latitude E6400 is a durable and secure notebook that offers snappy performance and plenty of endurance. And thanks to Dell’s redesign, this is one sleek business notebook you’ll want to be seen carrying. Power users will want to upgrade to discrete graphics, and we wish the touchpad were bigger, but overall the E6400 is an very good choice.

Great protection, staggering performance and decent usability. Dell is one of the world's best known laptop manufacturers and makes a broad range of machines for both business and consumer markets. It's impossible not to be impressed by the E6400 XFR, however, and if you want to give your data the best chance of survival in extreme conditions, few laptops are better.

This fully rugged notebook combines top-notch performance with impressive durability. Those in the market for a fully rugged notebook need something that can hold up to the elements, but it also needs to perform well as a notebook when Mother Nature isn’t abusing it. Dell’s Latitude E6400 XFR combines an already strong business laptop with one of the toughest exteriors we’ve seen. At $5,137, it’s about a grand more than the GD Itronix GD8000, but users can expect significantly better performance—albeit at the expense of battery life. Overall, the E6400 XFR is a very strong rugged notebook, especially for customers who want to purchase all their laptops from a single vendor.

The Dell Latitude E6400 XFR is a well built, higher performing, fully rugged notebook. It is based off of the Latitude E6400, with a ruggedized chassis wrapped around it. While it is definitely more rugged than the standard E6400 or E6400 ATG, it may not be as durable as other fully rugged notebooks. Dell chose to use plastic cladding for most of the external panels while other manufacturers use stronger metal panels. The main area of concern with this approach is the cooling fan grill, which showed significant flex, and may be an area that could get damaged in a tumble. The performance of the E6400 XFR is well above other rugged notebooks, but this comes at the cost of battery life

Dell:

Dell Inc est une société multinationale de technologie qui développe, fabrique, vend et prend en charge les ordinateurs personnels et autres produits liés. Basée au Texas, Dell emploie plus de 82.700 personnes dans le monde (2009). En 2006, Dell a acheté le fabricant de matériel d'ordinateur Alienware. Dans la plupart des pays, les ordinateurs portables sont vendus directement aux consommateurs par Dell et chaque portable configuré sur mesure est assemblé en fonction d'une sélection d'options. La part de marché en ce qui concerne les ventes d'ordinateurs personnels en 2007 (étude de marché IDC): HP 18,9%, Dell 16,4%, Acer 9,9%, Lenovo 7,5%, Apple 5,7%.

La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Carte graphique intégrée (Mémoire partagée) livrée avec le chipset GM45(Montevina). Grâce à deux shaders de plus et une vitesse plus élevée, beaucoup plus rapide que la GMA X3100. Mais toujours pas envisageable pour les joueurs (Les jeux DirectX 10 ne seront pas jouable ou alors à de très faibles résolutions). Le processeur vidéo permet de décoder la HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , pour la lecture BluRay sur des processeurs plus lents.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M: Basé sur la GeForce 9300M GS, mais optimisée pour une utilisation professionnelle stable (pilotes et bios particuliers). Supporte PureVideo HD pour aider le processeur à décoder des vidéos HD. Vitesse de la mémoire: 400 MHz GDDR2, 700 MHz GDDR3

Intel Core 2 Duo:

C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.

P8400: Dual core de milieu de gamme avec un TDP de 25 Watt. Pour les gamers ce ne sera pas suffisant.

P9600: Le P9600 est un Core 2 Duo de milieu de gamme proche du T9550 (mais avec un TDP plus faible de 25 contre 35W). Les performances du P9600 sont suffisantes pour les jeux de 2009.

14.1: La taille d'affichage de 14 pouces est un mélange entre les petits formats de petits portables et l'affichage standard de 15 pouces.
La raison pour laquelle tant de personnes possèdent des écrans de taille moyenne: cette taille n'est pas épuisante pour les yeux, n'a pas besoin de trop de courant et les ordinateurs portables peuvent rester tout à fait compacts.
