Looking at the Vostro 1310 as an all round laptop, you're bound to find a few things to complain about, but as a business machine, it's fairs rather well. Anyway, let's start with the shortcomings. The most annoying flaw is its tiny touchpad. Measuring just 62x38mm, it can be quite unpleasant to use, and the toucpad buttons are far from perfect, too. The mono speaker is too weak, there's no video out, and some plastic bits feel a bit flimsy and cheap, but the touchpad dwarfs all of these issues. Although we think the design is suitable for this product class, we think Dell should have done a bit more to make it look slimmer, some curved edges would have gone a long way to making the Vostro look a bit better. Although it has some shortcomings, and it's not a stylish, thin machine, it's a very sensible choice and truly offers unbeatable value for money. It's a nice piece of kit, it costs about 20 percent less than its competitors, and it deserves our Top Value award.

Dell's Vostro 1310 is designed as a compact, low cost business system. In this area it does well with its highly configurable and no frills design. The system is quite large and heavy for a 13.3-inch system and lacks many of the media features that many consumers would like in a laptop.

As an affordable small business laptop, the Dell Vostro 1310 excels. It's powerful, usable and extremely portable. At less than half the price of many of its closest rivals, it proved to be a great all-round workhorse of a laptop.

Last year Dell launched its small business orientated Vostro brand, but at the time its laptop line consisted entirely of repurposed Inspiron machines. This may have sufficed in the short term but if large businesses could benefit from purpose designed laptops in the Latitude range, why not small businesses as well? This was clearly the view taken by Dell and earlier this year it launched a new range of bespoke laptops for its Vostro line. Superb battery life and good performance at an affordable price make the Vostro 1310 a superb option for the small business in need of portable work horse.

The Vostro 1310 is a decent all-rounder for everyday office tasks and Web surfing, and we reckon it's probably a good buy in its lower specification guise. With the high-end spec that our review machine came with, however, it merely looks like a budget laptop that's trying too hard to make it into the major league.

Overall, the Dell Vostro 1310 is an impressive budget notebook with clean looks and solid performance. Whether you need a simple business notebook or a budget portable laptop with modest gaming capabilities, the Vostro 1310 makes an excellent choice. That said, the chassis isn't as nice as we hoped ... the edges are sharp and could be smoother or more rounded, the case feels more flimsy than the earlier Vostros, the touchpad button placement is bad, and the mono speaker does not provide a good audio experience. Still, none of these issues are "deal breakers." The other huge advantage to the Vostro line is the support, lack of bloatware, and excellent return policy. Dell will let you purchase a Vostro, use it for 30 days, and if you don't like it you can send it back for a full refund without any restocking or shipping fees. That's just amazing. In short, the Vostro 1310 is an excellent addition to the Vostro family and gives business professionals and consumers on a budget a low-cost alternative to the Dell XPS M1330.

The addition of the Dell Vostro 1310 ($1,258 direct) to the Vostro line is almost like bringing a supermodel into a team of geeks. Don't get me wrong—the other Vostros are far from underachievers, but they lack the style and the travel-friendliness that today's small-business users tend to look for. Low prices, multiple configuration options, and a "no-trialware" option should make the Dell Vostro 1310 laptop a start-up favorite.

It's no secret that we weren't that impressed by the Vostro range's debut back in 2007. While dedicated support packages and enhanced next-business-day warranties were certainly attractive extras in their own right, the hardware itself wasn't really designed for the needs of small businesses. It was, in fact, just the familiar Inspiron chassis finished in a more dour and businesslike black. For its new Vostro range, however, Dell has taken the criticisms on board and started entirely from scratch. It's a good thing too, as in addition to the usual 15.4in and 17in models - the 1510 and 1710 - Dell has added a 13.3in laptop to the range, the Vostro 1310. The 13.3in addition to Dell's recently redesigned Vostro range is an unmitigated success.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: L’Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 est une carte graphique intégrée sur un chipset Mobile Intel 965GM (pour Merom = architecture Core 2). C’est un successeur de la GMA 950. Les plus intéressant c’est l’ajout d’un pipeline programmable. Grâce à l’introduction des caractéristiques DirectX9, HDR et Transform & Lighning (T&L) matériel, son prédécesseur n’avait que du T&L en logiciel – devrai être prêt pour Windows Vista Premium (supporte Aero Glass complètement). Selon nos informations elle devra être bien meilleure que la GMA 950.

Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.

Intel Core 2 Duo:

C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.

L'avantage est que le subnotebook peut être  de petite dimension et peut être porté facilement. de plus Un petit écran a un avantage, il a besoin de peu de courant, ce qui améliore le temps d'exécution de batterie et en conséquence la mobilité. L'inconvénient est que la lecture des textes est épuisante pour les yeux. Les hautes résolutions sont a proscrire.
