If you've dreamed of owning an ultraportable but you blanch at the sight of the typical price tag, the Lenovo 3000 V200 is a happy compromise. It isn't as light or as sleek-looking as some models, but it is very nicely equipped for a reasonable price--so long as you don't need built-in mobile broadband.
The V200 starts at less than $1200, though our test unit cost $1550 (as of 9/12/07). The design is low-key but attractive, featuring a sloped front, a silver lid, and a dark keyboard. Except for very small arrow keys, typing is easy. Features include a built-in Webcam, a fingerprint reader, and an instant-on multimedia button that will play media without your having to boot Windows. The plentiful ports include three USB and one FireWire, and you get both an ExpressCard slot and a three-in-one media card slot.

The Lenovo 3000 V200 is an ultra-portable Windows Vista workhorse that costs less than a ThinkPad.
Lenovo has updated its ultra-portable laptops with the flagship 3000 V200. Sporting a 12.1in widescreen display (1280x800 native resolution) and based on Intel's ‘Santa Rosa' mobile platform, the silver-and-black V200 might just be the perfect highly-portable Windows-based system for cash-strapped small businesses.
Starting at just £940 inc VAT, Lenovo's 3000 V200 is the company's lightest (1.81kg) widescreen laptop to date. That doesn't mean to say it lacks some grunt under the hood. Right now you can opt for an Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to a T7300 (2GHz), up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 system memory, and a very accommodating 160GB (5400rpm) hard drive. The processors have Santa Rosa's 800MHz front-side bus, and are paired with an Intel GM965 chipset.

Lenovo's activity in the laptop market tends to be oriented more towards practicality than power. Its latest range expands on the business and home user sectors, the latter of which includes the new 3000 model from its V-series of machines. This is the top end of that particular range, attempting to combine a selection of powerful components and features in a slim and light ultraportable laptop, sporting a 12.1-inch 'VibrantView' display at resolutions up to 1280 x 800 pixels. This particular feature makes for a pretty good start, although in a similar way to Rock's X-black design and other high-gloss displays, there is a reflection issue in direct sunlight. We're prepared to pay the price though, as the screen offers an excellent degree of clarity and vibrancy that's emphasised by the pre-installed Microsoft Vista Business Edition's impressive aesthetics.

As the traditional work place environment continues to change, portability, reliability, connectivity and security are most important. Lenovo has addressed these issues with its latest Windows Vista-based computer. The company’s latest mobile computer is pitched squarely at the travelling business professional. Ultra-portable and sporting a dashing silver-and-black chassis, Lenovo’s 3000 V200 features a built-in optical drive, widescreen display and relatively robust multimedia features. It’s still not as well built or as feature-rich as the ThinkPad X-Series, but the 3000 V200 is an excellent machine if you can’t stretch your budget. The 3000 V200 is a nice machine for cash-strapped businesses who can’t afford a ThinkPad X60. But for those who aren’t infatuated with the Lenovo brand, there are better ultra-portables with better features from the likes of ASUS and Toshiba.

With so many laptops moving to the new Intel Centrino Duo platform (aka Santa Rosa), Lenovo cleverly positioned its latest ultraportable as a more budget-conscious version of the ThinkPad X60 (Vista). The Lenovo 3000 V200 is clever in the sense that it has two compelling features that people can't get with the ThinkPad X60 (Vista): a built-in DVD burner and a $1,399 starting price. In addition, its impressive processing parts make the V200 almost as fast as its ThinkPad siblings. The V200 doesn't look anything like a ThinkPad, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The V200's silver chassis is generic in many ways and doesn't have the sturdy magnesium alloy that surrounds the ThinkPad X60. But for a cash-strapped small business, looks probably aren't all that important. After all, it's what's inside that really counts.

Lenovo managed to produce a worthy upgrade to the V100 with the V200. While this budget-priced ultraportable is a little large compared to other notebooks in its class, the combination of features, performance and overall build quality make the V200 worth considering.

Though the V200 is of course not intended as a gaming notebook for 3D-performance, we ran 3DMark06 on the machine and found that it actually holds its own and compares with last generation low-end dedicated graphics solutions. Overall the initial take on the Lenovo V200 is very positive, but the honeymoon is only several hours old, so we'll be back in the coming weeks with a full rundown and review of this notebook -- stay tuned!

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: L’Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 est une carte graphique intégrée sur un chipset Mobile Intel 965GM (pour Merom = architecture Core 2). C’est un successeur de la GMA 950. Les plus intéressant c’est l’ajout d’un pipeline programmable. Grâce à l’introduction des caractéristiques DirectX9, HDR et Transform & Lighning (T&L) matériel, son prédécesseur n’avait que du T&L en logiciel – devrai être prêt pour Windows Vista Premium (supporte Aero Glass complètement). Selon nos informations elle devra être bien meilleure que la GMA 950.

Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.

Intel Core 2 Duo:

C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.

12.1": Ce format d'affichage peut s'appeler le mini grand format pour petits portables.
L'avantage est que le subnotebook peut être  de petite dimension et peut être porté facilement. de plus Un petit écran a un avantage, il a besoin de peu de courant, ce qui améliore le temps d'exécution de batterie et en conséquence la mobilité. L'inconvénient est que la lecture des textes est épuisante pour les yeux. Les hautes résolutions sont a proscrire.
