With the Lenovo IdeaPad Y530, "You get what you pay for" isn't a bad thing. The Y530 is a good laptop built for anyone who needs to work and to sneak in a little play time on the side. And, for under a thousand bucks, it is a solid counterpoint to Gateway's MC7803u series.

In the CPU tests, with its 2.0GHz CPU, the Y530 fell in line just below the slightly faster 2.1GHz processors. The Y530 had its poorest showings in the memories and gaming tests. However, it held its own by shadowing the front runners in the Hard Disk Drive Test, Communications Test, Music Test, and TV and Movies Test. The Hitachi drive in the Lenovo Y530 proved to be a powerful addition for a 5,400 RPM drive and was surely a factor in the strong test results. The Y530's 15.4" screen, with its native resolution of 1280x800, was bright, and sharp, with good color reproduction and a quick response time.

Limited to the NVIDIA 9300M dedicated graphics card which can be found in some netbooks, the Y530 doesn’t perform that well in games compared to other competing notebooks. For consumers the main use of the dedicated graphics would be for HD video decoding and digital audio out over HDMI for watching movies on your home television. For movies on the go the Y530 has a good surround sound system, which is a good step above what we usually see on most notebooks.

It uses the Intel GM45 chipset that gives it some amazing features one wouldn't expect in a low cost PC such as speedy DDR3 memory, draft-n wireless support and newer integrated graphics. This would all be great if Lenovo didn't use an older 32-bit Intel Pentium Dual Core processor that limits the system to 32-bit software. If users can accept this slower processor, they do end up with a very feature packed laptop for the money.

Rather than a super high performance model, it is designed as a more well rounded general purpose design. This means that it comes with fairly average specifications. While it does lack a few of the newer interfaces, it won't impact many individuals. It still retains one of the best keyboards on the market though. At least it is fairly well priced compared to many of is competitors.

Inside it's all white gloss on the keyboard, palmrest and touchpad, while the 16in widescreen display (1366x768 resolution) is adorned by a black bezel. The Lenovo Ideapad Y650 is not for budget-conscious customers. But with its better-than-average onboard sound, very good all around performance, and an equally noteworthy feature set, we think it does enough to justify its high price tag.

It has a display that rivals Sony's high-end displays, Dolby audio with JBL hardware that can compete with HP's Altec Lansing setup and good performance for most productivity, multimedia and gaming applications. The notebook has a thin, sleek design and it has a good number of ports including an HDMI out port. The price is competitive at $1,149 - $1,249 and should be on the short list for those who are looking for a mid-sized notebook that can handle multimedia and moderate gaming. The battery life means this isn't a notebook for frequent travelers and those who are away from power for long periods of time.

There are some small minor faults, like a shaky display and only two USB slots, but generally it’s quite solid. Buyers will have to like the design enough to spend the extra cash for the Y650 over something from Gateway or HP (like the HDX16) but for that money they will get a slick and attractive computer. It would be great to see options for Blu-ray, a higher resolution display, and maybe even increased graphics power, but most consumers will be quite happy with the available builds.

While the Y650 performs most day-to-day tasks extremely well and handles virtually any video you can throw at it, the low-display resolution makes this system hard to take seriously as a good media laptop. In the midst of a new crop of $1000-to-$1300, thin-body, large-screen laptops, including the Samsung R610, the Y650 offers some great general performance, and you won't need to schedule regular appointments with a chiropractor if you're going to be carrying it with you often. If you are hunting for a stylish, thin laptop with a powerful processor, and you can look past the low resolution, you could do a lot worse. And you'll be hard-pressed to find a better-sounding laptop in this class.

It's an alternative for those who don't want to spend the money or make the switch to an Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Dual Graphics) but salivate over its lightness. The Y650 is designed with mobility in mind when others (ahem, other Windows laptops) with similar screens are at least a pound heavier. Yet it can also fill the void left by an old desktop. Part for part, though, the Y650 is a bit overpriced; there are better values out there. Then again, you can always wait around until there's a good Lenovo sale. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 is the lightest 16-inch media center around, but its somewhat high price tag isn't justified by its parts.

The keyboard was a little disappointing and having only two USB ports might be a problem for some people, but overall the design is quite impressive. While we are glad to see the graphics performance of the Y650 exceeds the performance of the old Y530, the new NVIDIA GeForce G 105M dedicated graphics card just didn't perform as well in games compared to other 16-inch notebooks we've tested. That said, the Y650 is thinner and lighter than any other 16-inch notebook we've seen ... and the discrete graphics card in this machine is perfectly capable of handling HD video decoding and digital audio out over HDMI for watching movies on your HDTV. If you're looking for an attractive entertainment notebook for your family the Y650 makes a great choice, but if you need a high-end gaming notebook this isn't it.

The recent IdeaPad line reflects the change most starkly: we looke at the 16-inch IdeaPad Y650 a while ago, and were impressed by the thin, sturdy feel and bolder touches, including texture-patterned lids and glossy materials used in the interior. Reasonably priced, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 is a style-savvy, media-friendly laptop that unfortunately lacks gaming graphics.

That said, the Y450 has some strong competition from notebooks like the new Dell Studio 14z and the popular HP Pavilion dv4t. If you're looking for an attractive notebook for school the Y450 makes a great choice, but if you need a high-end gaming notebook or the lightest possible weight, this isn't it.

Performance is good although it does suffer in the graphics by relying on the integrated video. It does come with some very good battery life for its size. It's really hard to find systems with similar features and performance but some may want to look at the version with the NVIDIA graphics if they need 3D support.

It keeps Lenovo's class leading keyboard designs that make it a joy to use. So, if you want to do a little gaming on the side, this is clearly the budget system for you.

At its base, the machine doesn't really standout, but pop in a Blu-Ray drive for less than $100 and you've got a much more capable addition to your home theater setup. Throw in a discrete graphics card from ATI and then you'll really be flying along, but you'll also increase the base price to almost $1000, which is still competitive, but not cheap. Overall, we liked the design and options we found on the Sony Vaio NW, though many of the extras seem to be conceits for Sony fans, like the extra Memory Stick slot or the choice of i.Link (Sony's brand name for FireWire) over eSata for an expansion port.

Performance is strong thanks to the quad Core i7 processor and 4GB of memory and the graphics are more than enough for gaming at the moderate resolutions. Highlights of the machine include excellent overall performance (especially for gaming), a good keyboard and touchpad, a thin-and-light design, and fantastic speakers. The downsides of this notebook are significant. At the top of the list is the so-so build quality; the Y560d's flexible plastic construction does not inspire confidence. Furthermore, glossy plastic covers all visible surfaces and is impossible to keep clean. Another design issue is the gaudy-looking tattoo on the back of the lid what is that all about? The sub-three hour battery life may be a turnoff for some. Last but not least, the low resolution (1366x768) screen hurts usability and productivity.

As a 3D notebook, the Y560d is considerably less expensive than 15-inch laptops that use Nvidia's superior 3D Vision technology. For example, the ASUS G51J 3D costs approximately $1,600, though it offers a more immersive 3D experience and better gaming cred. Given that the Y560d can be had for as low as $1,100, the IdeaPad is really a good entertainment machine with 3D as a bonus.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" de la légende anglaise, novo (latin) pour nouveau) a été fondée en 1984 en tant que société chinoise de commerce d'ordinateurs. En 2004, la société était le plus grand fabricant d'ordinateurs portables en Chine et, après l'acquisition de la division PC d'IBM en 2005, le quatrième au monde. En plus des ordinateurs de bureau et des ordinateurs portables, la société fabrique des moniteurs, des projecteurs, des serveurs, etc., et se spécialise dans le développement, la fabrication et la commercialisation d'électronique grand public, d'ordinateurs personnels, de logiciels, de solutions d'entreprise et de services connexes.
En 2016, l'entreprise s'est classée au premier rang mondial des ventes d'ordinateurs. Il le détenait encore en 2023 avec environ 23% de part de marché mondiale. Les gammes de produits importantes sont Thinkpad, Legion et Ideapad.
En 2011, elle a acquis une participation majoritaire dans Medion AG, un fabricant européen de matériel informatique. En 2014, Motorola Mobility a été racheté, ce qui a donné un coup de pouce à Lenovo sur le marché des smartphones.
Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600: C’est une carte graphique DirectX 10 de chez ATI en compétition directe avec les NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS. Apparue sur les HP Pavillion HDX 20" avec de bon benchmarks, peut être placé en 1ère classe. Elle fera tourner vos jeux avec tout à fond..
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Carte graphique intégrée (Mémoire partagée) livrée avec le chipset GM45(Montevina). Grâce à deux shaders de plus et une vitesse plus élevée, beaucoup plus rapide que la GMA X3100. Mais toujours pas envisageable pour les joueurs (Les jeux DirectX 10 ne seront pas jouable ou alors à de très faibles résolutions). Le processeur vidéo permet de décoder la HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , pour la lecture BluRay sur des processeurs plus lents.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650: C'est une puce graphique de classe moyenne, qui est fabriquée en 55nm et peut probablement être classé au déssus des HD 2600 / HD 2700. Grâce au moteur vidéo Avivo, la carte graphique peut appuyer le processeur dans plusieurs opérations vidéo (vidéo HD également).
NVIDIA GeForce G 105M:
9300M GS cadencée plus rapidement et donc un peu plus rapide. Toujours fabriquée en 65nm. Supporte Hybrid-SLI avec HybridPower et GeForceBoost (en association avec le bon chipset Nvidia).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: L'Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (parfois aussi appelé GMA X4500 HD ou d'autres combinaisons) est un adaptateur graphique compatible DirectX 10 embarqué dans les chipsets GM45, GE45 et GS45 de la plate-forme Centrino 2 (Montevina). La puce n'a pas de mémoire graphique dédiée, mais prend dynamiquement une quantité sur la mémoire principale (jusqu'à 384 MB).
La version de la 4500MHD cadencée à 400 MHz trouvée dans les chipsets GL40 et GS40, est appelée GMA 4500M (sans le HD) et a une plus mauvaise performance dans les jeux 3D et le décodage vidéo.
Ses cartes graphiques ne sont pas faites pour le jeu. Et même si ils tournent, ce sera avec des erreurs d'affichage et un framerate ignoble. Ce cartes graphique sont totalement incompatible avec les joueurs! les applications de bureau et d'Internet, ne sont pas un problème pour ces cartes graphiques.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: L’Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 est une carte graphique intégrée sur un chipset Mobile Intel 965GM (pour Merom = architecture Core 2). C’est un successeur de la GMA 950. Les plus intéressant c’est l’ajout d’un pipeline programmable. Grâce à l’introduction des caractéristiques DirectX9, HDR et Transform & Lighning (T&L) matériel, son prédécesseur n’avait que du T&L en logiciel – devrai être prêt pour Windows Vista Premium (supporte Aero Glass complètement). Selon nos informations elle devra être bien meilleure que la GMA 950.
La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650: Carte de moyenne gamme supportant DirectX 11 qui consomme 15-20 Watt. Avec Eyevision (jusqu'à 6 moniteurs)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M: La NIVIDIA GeForce GT 240M est un adaptateur graphique DirectX 10.1 pour ordinateurs portables basé sur le noyau GT216. Il est le successeur de la GT 130M et techniquement, c’est une GT 230M plus rapidement cadencée. Grâce aux 48 shader core, il devrait fonctionner sensiblement mieux que la GT 130M et grâce au processus de fabrication 40nm, la consommation électrique devrait rester la même.
Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M: Haut de milieu de gamme de l'offre GeForce GT 700M. Basée sur l'architecture Kepler et fabriquée par TSMC dans une gravure 28 nm.

Intel Core 2 Duo:
C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.
T9300: Le T9300 est un dual core puissant proche du T9400 mais avec un FSB plus bas.
P8700: Un CPU de milieu de gamme avec 3 Mo de cache de niveau 3 et un TDP de 25 Watt.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: Version à un noyau du duo core et successeur du Pentium M d'Intel ; En raison des 65nm de réduction, structurer une plus petite consommation de courant égale par rapport au Pentium M (au maximum 27 watts) ; l'exécution est comparable au Pentium M (légèrement plus rapide en raison de quelques améliorations).
T3200:
Dual core Merom bas de gamme de l'ancienne génération avec un tout petit cache L2.
T4200: Le Intel Pentium T4200 (ou Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200) est un dual-core d'entrée de gamme pour portable. Comparé aux Core 2 Duo, le T4200 ne possède qu'un seul Mo de cache de niveau 2 et certaines fonctions d'économie d'énergie sont désactivées.
T4300: Dual core d'entrée de gamme avec 1 Mo de cache de niveau 2 sans les instructions de virtualisation. Comparé aux Core 2 Duo et certaines fonctions d'économie d'énergie sont désactivées.
Intel Core 2 Extreme:
X9100: Le X9100 est le plus rapide des Core 2 et grâce à un faible multiplicateur de base l'overclocking est relativement facile. Le X9100 a été remplacé par le T9900 (avec un multiplicateur fixe).
Intel Core i3:
330M: Le Core i3-330M est un 350M plus lent sans Turbo Boost avec une fréquence max de 2.13 GHz. Avec l'Hyperthreading, 4 coeurs sont virtuellement disponibles. La carte graphique intégrée (GMA HD 3150) et un contrôleur mémoire DDR3 intégré sont inclus.
Intel Core i7:
720QM: Le Core i7-720QM est le Core i7 Quad Core de 2009 le plus lent: entre 1.6 et 2.8 GHz (grâce au mode Turbo). Il a l'avantage sur les logiciels optimisés pour plusieurs processeurs mais un peu moins bon pour les application mono core. Comparé aux autres Core i7 mobile, le 720QM ne possède que 6Mo de cache L3.
4700MQ:
Processeur Quad-core basé sur Haswell et cadencé à 2.4 GHz avec le support Turbo Boost jusqu'à 3.4 GHz. Possède une carte graphique intégrée, la HD Graphics 4600, et un contrôleur mémoire dual channel DDR3.
