They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if it takes an aggressive styling with lots of LED lights to catch your eye, the E420s isn't for you. The E420s is instead aimed at business users who plan on toting their laptop into the board room and into meetings with co-workers and potential clients. For those users, the well designed E420s gives the same first impression that a fancy suit would give, which is one of style and sophistication.

The ThinkPad range has been typically targeted at business users, however, I can certainly see more general users adopting the Edge series, especially as the price of the business class fare edges further below the £1000 mark. This Core i5 version is no number crunching beast and the battery life could be better, but this model would suit those who might want to dabble in the more graphically demanding tasks now and again. If you’re looking to buy a mid-spec laptop for the longhaul and yet seek the build quality usually reserved for the top end, then the Lenovo E420s is easy to recommend.

The ThinkPad E420s couldn’t be much different from the excellent Lenovo IdeaPad G570. To be fair to the ThinkPad it is a very work-focused model, but the poor battery life, lack of storage space, mediocre screen and relatively high price all count against it. It is quick, though, and the robust construction means it can withstand a knock or drop without too much bother.

If you’re on a budget, as a majority of students are, then the Edge E420 with its quality build and latest Intel processor technology is a great buy in the mid $500 range. As a student it doesn’t make sense to buy a $2,000 laptop that may or may not survive the rigors of 4-years on campus, after all it’s a lot of money to replace a $2,000 laptop if it gets stolen (common on college campuses) or simply gets used and abused so much it breaks down on you. The E420 is simply a practical laptop for those on a budget but who still want something that’s going to last and won’t be outdated technology wise in two years. Even though it’s a little more modern with its design than the classic ThinkPad, it’s still probably not going to turn heads in public. If you want something more flashy looking you’ll likely need to look at a consumer and not business targeted laptop, but then you lose the advantage you get with build quality and support offered by business class laptops. It’s really up to the individual as to what’s more important to you in a laptop, but if you’re a practically minded person looking to get the most for your money and don’t need something terribly flashy then the ThinkPad Edge E420 should be on your short list of laptops to consider for school.

The $539 ThinkPad Edge E420 can handle most business tasks with aplomb. Moreover, the E420's excellent keyboard and touchpad, wide viewing angles and minimal amount of preloaded software go a long way toward making it a top pick for mobile professionals on a budget. We still prefer this notebook's cousin, the Edge E420s, which offers a slimmer and more elegant design. But if you prefer a matte screen, the Edge E420 makes for a solid and affordable small business notebook.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" de la légende anglaise, novo (latin) pour nouveau) a été fondée en 1984 en tant que société chinoise de commerce d'ordinateurs. En 2004, la société était le plus grand fabricant d'ordinateurs portables en Chine et, après l'acquisition de la division PC d'IBM en 2005, le quatrième au monde. En plus des ordinateurs de bureau et des ordinateurs portables, la société fabrique des moniteurs, des projecteurs, des serveurs, etc., et se spécialise dans le développement, la fabrication et la commercialisation d'électronique grand public, d'ordinateurs personnels, de logiciels, de solutions d'entreprise et de services connexes.

En 2016, l'entreprise s'est classée au premier rang mondial des ventes d'ordinateurs. Il le détenait encore en 2023 avec environ 23% de part de marché mondiale. Les gammes de produits importantes sont Thinkpad, Legion et Ideapad.

En 2011, elle a acquis une participation majoritaire dans Medion AG, un fabricant européen de matériel informatique. En 2014, Motorola Mobility a été racheté, ce qui a donné un coup de pouce à Lenovo sur le marché des smartphones.

La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).

AMD Radeon HD 6630M: Succède à la Mobility Radeon HD 5650 avec plus de coeurs, un décodeur vidéo UVD3 et Eyefinity+.

Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.

Intel HD Graphics 3000:

3 GPUs à venir (1er Trimestre 2011) intégrés aux CPU Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). Les 3000 / 200 correspondent à la puce GT2 avec 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Dual-core Sandy Bridge avec GPU et contrôleur DDR3 intégré. Le CPU est cadencé à 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) et le GPU à 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).

Intel Core i3:

2310M:

Dual-core basé sur l'architecture Sandy Bridge avec GPU intégré et contrôleur mémoire DDR3. Le CPU est cadencé à 2.1 GHz et supporte Turbo Boost 2.0 uniquement pour la carte gtaphique (650/1100MHz).
