While running down the list of components and specs would make the Origin EON17-SLX (2014) look like simply a refresh of last year's model, the new iteration gets more than a new coat of paint, thanks to an Intel Extreme Core i7 processor and dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M GPUs. While the separated touchpad and mouse buttons is a tad off-putting, and the battery life is short (even among short-lived gaming systems), there's no denying the appeal of raw power. With the Origin EON17-SLX outpacing the Alienware 18 with better numbers both in raw performance and gaming, as well as coming in for roughly $800 less, the Origin EON17-SLX handily claims the title of Editors' Choice for high-end gaming laptops.

As I tend to say during these types of extremely high cost system reviews, this setup isn't for everyone (and, in fact, it isn't for most). A $4,500 gaming notebook like this will surely last you for YEARS of PC gaming while still allowing you to be mobile enough to take your EON17-SLX on the road or to LAN parties with ease. Performance was impressive, not just in gaming but in all CPU-based tasks as well - thanks to the Intel Core i7 Haswell processor and the RAID-0 array of SSDs keeping storage snappy. If you can afford it, the ORIGIN PC EON17-SLX gaming notebook will, without a doubt, leave a positive impression on you in nearly every category.

The EON17-SLX, like Origin's loaded Genesis desktop, is not for everyone. It's too heavy and bulky to be carried around for very long or on a regular basis. Its battery life is as perfunctory as a Porsche's back seat. And it's shockingly expensive. Every time we think Origin can't top itself with the overpowered bells and whistles, something like the Eon 17 SLX falls into our laps. Its dual Nvidia GPUs delivered the best graphics numbers we've seen this year, and its CPU and SSDs were also among the fastest we've seen. It doesn't hurt that the notebook resembles a sexy sports car, either.

Which is a lot. Yet the price doesn’t damage value as much as you’d expect. The Acer Predator 17 we reviewed was $2,600, which means the Origin is about 40 percent more expensive.

It boasts an excellent keyboard, trackpad, and audio; its display is 4K and glorious; it offers tons of super-fast storage; and it can smoke any notebook and most desktops. Yeah, if you’re not used to gaming laptops their premium pricing, this rig will seem painfully expensive, but the EON17-X is extremely fine-tuned and pretty badass all-around. What more can you ask for in a gaming machine?

Origin PC's Eon17-X is a tank, on both the outside and the inside. It powered through everything I threw at it with incredible performance, its keyboard was incredibly comfortable to type on and its speakers serenaded my ears with some bangin' tunes. However, I can't look past its crazy-dim 17.3-inch display, its low-quality design and its wild price.

The Origin PC EON17-X is a highly capable, highly powerful platform to base your own DTR build on. Keep that in mind. This laptop isn't meant to be truly portable; you need both hands to carry it. If that's the type of portable power you want, so much power you can barely lift it, the Origin PC EON17-X is exactly what you were looking for. For me personally, it's perfect. I don't want a box under my desk. I don't want a huge mess of wires, and although the second power brick is a bit much for some, I look at it as one for the CPU and the other for the GPU. The DP ports out the back mean I can use my Rift S VR headset with this easily, too. Everything I personally need as a content creator is at my fingertips, and for that, I have to say thank you Origin PC for making sure there are options like this on the market today, as well as for sending me one to use and figure out what the ultimate in DTR laptop performance brings to the table today.

It’s time for a confession. When the Origin EON17-X arrived on my doorstep, I was blown away by the entirety of it as it was a bit overwhelming. Then I opened it up and realized that this is what high-end premium gaming is all about. It’s about a laptop that has all the bells and whistles. It’s luxurious in every way possible, from its fast and vivid (albeit, dim) 17-inch, 300Hz display to its powerful 11th Gen Intel Core i9 CPU backed by the latest Nvidia RTX GeForce 3080 GPU with 16GB of VRAM. It may be redonkulous-sized but, so am I, and I love it. Origin even gets the audio quality right. Nobody wants a Bentley monster truck gaming laptop with tinny speakers or a weak cooling system.

Origin PC:
Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M SLI:
Deux cartes graphiques GeForce GTX 780M en combinaison SLI.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M:
Carte graphique positionnée en tant qu'entrée du haut-de-gamme de la famille GeForce GTX900M, basée sur la puce Maxwell GM204.
Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M SLI:
Deux cartes graphiques GeForce GTX 980M associées en SLI.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Mobile:
Carte graphique Pascal haut de gamme pour ordinateur portable. Adossée à de la mémoire vidéo GDDR5. Devrait offrir des performances très proches d'une GTX 1080 pour PC de bureau.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI (Laptop):
Combinaison de deux cartes graphiques haut de gamme GeForce GTX 1080 en SLI. Les performances en jeu dépendent de la maturité du profil SLI, allant d'un gain nul à presque 90% de performance en plus que par rapport à une seule GTX 1080.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile:
