Comme chaque année, Asus sort le meilleur smartphone gaming du marché. C'est difficilement contestable. Mais est-ce que ce titre de roi du gaming est vraiment pertinent? L'autonomie est excellente, c'est la meilleure du marché selon moi. L'écran Amoled 165 Hz est sublime pour consommer du contenu. Les performances du Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 sont au top et le contrôle de température est aux petits oignons. Mais la qualité photo est toujours tragiquement décevante pour un smartphone aussi cher. J'en ai marre d'excuser les capteurs macro et les photos dignes d'un milieu de gamme sous prétexte qu'il s'agit d'un smartphone gaming. Asus est aussi toujours un assez mauvais élève sur la politique de mise à jour. Personnellement, je suis beaucoup moins enthousiaste face au gaming sur mobile.

Le Asus ROG 7 Ultimate est un très bon smartphone dans quasiment tous les domaines. Ses performances sont incroyables, l’écran est génial, c’est le smartphone des gamers par excellence. En revanche, la batterie qui n’est pas mauvaise, se montre performante en utilisation classique. Mais l’appareil photo n’est pas du tout le reflet de ce que l’on attend d’un tel smartphone, c’est dommage. Alors qu’Asus aurait pu travailler l’appareil photo du ROG Phone 7 Ultimate comme il se doit, le constructeur n’y a pas fait grand chose. C’est quand même dommage d’appeler un smartphone « Ultimate » sans qu’il ne soit si « Ultime » que ça en tout point. Néanmoins, l’esthétique de l’appareil est travaillée et le pack est complet, avec le système de ventilation qui se montre bien pratique.

La recette du ROG Phone 6 et du ROG Phone 6D a été peaufinée à l’extrême pour dépasser certaines limites et remettre à plat tout ce que nous savons en termes de puissance et d’ergonomie pour le jeu sur mobile. Même si certains gamers pourraient se passer de l'accessoire, l’absence d’AeroActive Cooler dans la boîte du ROG Phone 7 « standard » est toujours ennuyeuse pour tout ce qu’elle apporte. L'accès aux meilleures performances. Le caisson de basse. Le support. Le port jack déporté. Le refroidissement actif. Les boutons supplémentaires… D'autant que la version standard est plus chère, contrairement à la version Ultimate qui est vendue au même prix.

Un Galaxy S23, un OnePlus 11, voire un Pixel 7 Pro seront des modèles plus appropriés, plus généralistes : meilleurs en photo et en expérience logicielle. Si vous êtes particulièrement attaché au jeu vidéo sur smartphone, l'Asus ROG Phone 7 est un 10/10. Avec ses petites évolutions de-ci, de-là, la série ROG Phone 7 conserve ses bases solides et se contente globalement d'améliorer ce qui devait l'être par rapport à la génération précédente. Les smartphones embarquent le dernier SoC superstar de Qualcomm, à savoir le Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, et un système de dissipation de la chaleur extrêmement efficace ; sans parler de l'AeroActive Cooler 7, le ventilateur externe qui ajoute des fonctionnalités dont on peine à se passer. L'autonomie pâtit un peu de cette puissance débridée et de cet écran ultra-lumineux, mais, globalement, le ROG Phone 7 Ultimate — tout comme le modèle vanilla — offre précisément ce que l'on attend de lui : des performances imbattables et une immersion complète dans ses jeux mobiles favoris. On regrette tout de même le manque d'évolution sur la partie photo, qui propose une expérience trop limitée pour un smartphone commercialisé à plus de 1 000 euros.

En effet, pour proposer une telle débauche de puissance, une autonomie solide, une recharge rapide et un excellent écran, le constructeur taïwanais doit faire quelques concessions. Elles sont à trouver du côté de l'expérience photo qui est correcte, mais pas du tout au niveau des mobiles haut de gamme au même prix. Le plus gros soucis du gaming sur mobile, ce n'est pas tant l'offre mais surtout le manque de nouveaux jeux AAA. Si on met de côté le Cloud Gaming, on est en 2023 et on parle encore de jeux vieux de quelques années comme Genshin Impact, Diablo Immortals ou encore Call of Duty Mobile. Ces jeux sont ultra optimisés depuis quelques années et on ne verra pas forcément, à l'usage, de différences entre un ROG Phone d'il y a deux ans et le nouveau ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. Du coup, les années se suivent et se ressemblent. En plus de cela, Asus n'a pas spécialement fait évoluer le design de son smartphone alors qu'on n'est déjà plus dans l'ère des designs tout en rondeur. Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir, l'Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate est une bête de course, un appareil multimédia paré pour le futur. Comme le fut son prédécesseur, l'Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate est une évolution qui peut se résumer à un ROG Phone 6 Pro encore plus peaufinée et remis au goût du jour. L'avantage, c'est qu'Asus continue d'écouter ses utilisateurs et ce n'est pas rien. Et au final, Asus nous livre un excellent ROG Phone 7 Ultimate qui s’adresse à un public qui sait exactement pourquoi il achètera le smartphone gamer d’Asus.

In what seems to be an annual occurrence. Asus releases the best gaming smartphone on the market. It's hard to argue with that. However, is the title 'King of Gaming Phones' really relevant? Battery life is excellent, making it the best on the market in my opinion. The 165 Hz AMOLED screen is sublime for consuming content. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2's performance is top-notch, and the temperature control is top-notch as well. But the photo quality is still tragically disappointing for such an expensive smartphone. I'm sick of the excuses made to include macro sensors and middling sensors on the grounds that this is a gaming smartphone. Asus is also always a rather poor advocate of a decent update policy. Personally, I'm much less enthusiastic about mobile gaming. We have overpowered machines that are perfectly capable of running AAA titles which is very close to a console experience.

Unboxing the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate with a review of the gaming performance, battery life and beyond. I've been testing the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate for a few days with Genshin Impact, Call of Duty etc and here's my impressions of (the best?) gaming smartphone of 2023. As far as specs and design goes, the Asus ROG Phone 7 series is very similar vs the 6D etc. The biggest upgrade is that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which ensures super-smooth gaming experiences, whatever you fancy. That near-7-inch AMOLED screen is another stunner with 165Hz refresh support, while the stereo speaker setup is unbelievably loud. Asus has bunged its usual Game Genie features onto the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (and regular model). And even with X Mode enabled and Genshin Impact set to maximum visuals, I found the battery life on this gaming phone was good for five solid hours of action. So it ain't cheap, but the Asus ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate are the greatest gaming phones when it comes to features and accessory support. Of course, Red Magic and Black Shark rivals offer the Snapdragon performance on a stricter budget, if you can't stretch to this premium price.

As for pricing, the phone will start at $999.99 for the ROG Phone 7. Pricing for the Ultimate model hasn’t been confirmed yet. If you don’t want to wait for the new model, ASUS is still selling it’s excellent ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro devices.

Asus' reign as the best gaming phone maker isn't about to end anytime soon. Like a lot of phones in 2023, the improvements are quite incremental on the 6 Pro, but there's so much performance here for those who really care about getting the most from their intensive games. When you add that to a fantastic display, the best stereo speakers on any phone, a big battery and one decent camera, and you have a great all-round media consumption device. There are compromises with this phone. Beyond the usual expensive price point, there's the fact that it's a huge, heavy phone and the supporting ultrawide and macro cameras aren't great even if the primary snapper is actually decent this year. Still, as long as having a small, compact phone or having the best cameras isn't at the top of your list, it does so much really well. It's probably our favourite phone for watching movies and TV shows on and will remain that way until another manufacturer manages to up their loudspeaker game. It's a brilliant all-round phone, even if it's not for everyone.

For the price Asus has set, you might be better off turning to phones like the OnePlus 11 or Galaxy S23 Plus, which run on the same processor as the ROG Phone 7, deliver impressive battery life in their own right, and also have better cameras. Certainly, there are more complete phones out there than the ROG Phone 7, though as far as gaming-only features are concerned, this Asus phone stands out.

To be fair, the photo quality of the ROG Phone line has improved over the years. It’s not a horrible camera—it just doesn’t come close enough to the other flagship smartphones in its price range and sticks out as a glaring weakness amidst a whole heap of awesomeness. And of course, it really depends on how much you personally care about camera performance in your phone, but it bums me out and I really hope Asus can continue to improve on it. Regardless of the weak camera performance, the rest of this phone is a beast. The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate stands out from the crowd with cutting edge features. That’s the key, really. Fully loaded, enthusiast-class gaming phones like this help push the entire mobile ecosystem forward, and I’m thrilled that manufacturers like Asus continue to innovate in the space. Mainstream phones might not have adopted features like vapor chambers and high refresh rate screens as quickly if gaming phones didn’t blaze the trail first. Now if only we could get at least one headphone jack back on other phones…

Would we recommend the ROG Phone 7? Yes... for some people. Those being gamers and phone geeks — it's pretty obvious. The phone's design and branding doesn't hide who it's for. After all, if you are spending good money on a smartphone — it would be kind of nice if it can be mentioned in the same breath as Samsung and Pixel. Even though we spent our time with the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, we would say the non-Ultimate is the way to go. The regular version is just as overkill. It has the same specs, cameras, speakers and screen. So, while we enjoyed the Ultimate, we would recommend one buy the regular ROG 7 and pick up the AeroActive Cooler 7 for it separately — it will still end up a cheaper package than the Ultimate. The ROG Phone 7 is launching in Europe right now, starting from €999 for the regular model and €1399 for the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (bundled with AeroActive Cooler 7, a €110 value).

Had Asus not sent me a ROG Phone 7 Ultimate to review, I would have still bought it once it launched in the US. With the ROG 5 and 6, Asus proved that gaming phones are my preference. Not only does the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate include a huge battery that can last for a couple of days, but you also get top-of-the-line specs plus an internal design that keeps things cool thanks to vapor chambers and layers of cooling material. It's a phone with a purpose that doubles as an excellent daily driver. Now that Asus has committed to longer support, addressed many of its camera woes, and is sticking to a specific form factor compatible with Asus-branded peripherals, there's very little to complain about. Yes, the price is high, but if you're looking for a budget option, Redmagic has your back. Then again, if you're looking for the best gaming phone money can buy, the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate should be at the top of your list.

Unboxing the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate with a review of the gaming performance, battery life and beyond. I've been testing the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate for a few days with Genshin Impact, Call of Duty etc and here's my impressions of (the best?) gaming smartphone of 2023. As far as specs and design goes, the Asus ROG Phone 7 series is very similar vs the 6D etc. The biggest upgrade is that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which ensures super-smooth gaming experiences, whatever you fancy. That near-7-inch AMOLED screen is another stunner with 165Hz refresh support, while the stereo speaker setup is unbelievably loud. Asus has bunged its usual Game Genie features onto the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (and regular model). And even with X Mode enabled and Genshin Impact set to maximum visuals, I found the battery life on this gaming phone was good for five solid hours of action. So it ain't cheap, but the Asus ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate are the greatest gaming phones when it comes to features and accessory support. Of course, Red Magic and Black Shark rivals offer the Snapdragon performance on a stricter budget, if you can't stretch to this premium price.

We haven't yet reviewed the competing RedMagic 8 Pro series which has the same chip with a lower $649 starting price. To be fair, the photo quality of the ROG Phone line has improved over the years. It’s not a horrible camera—it just doesn’t come close enough to the other flagship smartphones in its price range and sticks out as a glaring weakness amidst a whole heap of awesomeness. And of course, it really depends on how much you personally care about camera performance in your phone, but it bums me out and I really hope Asus can continue to improve on it. Regardless of the weak camera performance, the rest of this phone is a beast. The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate stands out from the crowd with cutting edge features. That’s the key, really. Fully loaded, enthusiast-class gaming phones like this help push the entire mobile ecosystem forward, and I’m thrilled that manufacturers like Asus continue to innovate in the space. Mainstream phones might not have adopted features like vapor chambers and high refresh rate screens as quickly if gaming phones didn’t blaze the trail first. Now if only we could get at least one headphone jack back on other phones…

It might not mix up the formula, but the latest ROG phone is still deserving of that Ultimate moniker. It has a great display, stellar sound and superb battery life when you aren’t gaming – and impeccable performance, streamlined software and useful accessories when you are. There’s little else out there that’s as purpose-built for playtime. Frame rates aren’t substantially ahead of the current crop of Snapdragon-powered flagships, though, and while the main camera takes a decent enough daylight photo, the secondary lenses just aren’t up to the same standard as the ones seen on similarly-priced rivals. Those phones aren’t as in-yer-face as the Asus on the design front, either. If you’ve got a serious Genshin Impact addiction, though? The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will be all the phone you’ll need.

Would we recommend the ROG Phone 7? Yes... for some people. Those being gamers and phone geeks — it's pretty obvious. The phone's design and branding doesn't hide who it's for. But we also appreciate that improvements in the camera and software updates over the past year have made these phones more suitable for "generic" use. After all, if you are spending good money on a smartphone — it would be kind of nice if it can be mentioned in the same breath as Samsung and Pixel. Even though we spent our time with the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, we would say the non-Ultimate is the way to go. The regular version is just as overkill. It has the same specs, cameras, speakers and screen. So, while we enjoyed the Ultimate, we would recommend one buy the regular ROG 7 and pick up the AeroActive Cooler 7 for it separately — it will still end up a cheaper package than the Ultimate. The ROG Phone 7 is launching in Europe right now, starting from €999 for the regular model and €1399 for the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (bundled with AeroActive Cooler 7, a €110 value).

Had Asus not sent me a ROG Phone 7 Ultimate to review, I would have still bought it once it launched in the US. With the ROG 5 and 6, Asus proved that gaming phones are my preference. Not only does the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate include a huge battery that can last for a couple of days, but you also get top-of-the-line specs plus an internal design that keeps things cool thanks to vapor chambers and layers of cooling material. It's a phone with a purpose that doubles as an excellent daily driver. Now that Asus has committed to longer support, addressed many of its camera woes, and is sticking to a specific form factor compatible with Asus-branded peripherals, there's very little to complain about. Yes, the price is high, but if you're looking for a budget option, Redmagic has your back. Then again, if you're looking for the best gaming phone money can buy, the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate should be at the top of your list.

Le ROG Phone 7 prend bien la succession du ROG Phone 6 avant lui en améliorant les performances, la qualité des photos en mode macro et pour les selfies et propose un écran plus lumineux d’aussi bonne qualité avec des avantages certains pour les joueurs comme la fréquence de rafraîchissement et le taux d’échantillonnage tactile. La qualité audio est remarquable pour un téléphone portable et nous avons également apprécié les gâchettes sensitives, qui, aussi, permettent de prendre l’avantage dans les jeux. On peut peut-être regretter que la charge ne soit pas plus rapide, pour recharger la batterie plus vite pour pouvoir continuer à jouer encore plus longtemps. L’interface est tout ce que peut attendre un joueur avec des outils pratiques et pertinents. La possibilité de passer au Wi-Fi 7 lorsque la mise à jour sera disponible est un plus, mais déjà, on peut dire que le ROG Phone 7 est un excellent smartphone pour les jeux pouvant aussi s’avérer agréable dans le cadre d’une utilisation quotidienne.

Le plus gros soucis du gaming sur mobile, ce n'est pas tant l'offre mais surtout le manque de nouveaux jeux AAA. Si on met de côté le Cloud Gaming, on est en 2023 et on parle encore de jeux vieux de quelques années comme Genshin Impact, Diablo Immortals ou encore Call of Duty Mobile. Ces jeux sont ultra optimisés depuis quelques années et on ne verra pas forcément, à l'usage, de différences entre un ROG Phone d'il y a deux ans et le nouveau ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. Du coup, les années se suivent et se ressemblent. En plus de cela, Asus n'a pas spécialement fait évoluer le design de son smartphone alors qu'on n'est déjà plus dans l'ère des designs tout en rondeur. Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir, l'Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate est une bête de course, un appareil multimédia paré pour le futur. Comme le fut son prédécesseur, l'Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate est une évolution qui peut se résumer à un ROG Phone 6 Pro encore plus peaufinée et remis au goût du jour. L'avantage, c'est qu'Asus continue d'écouter ses utilisateurs et ce n'est pas rien. Et au final, Asus nous livre un excellent ROG Phone 7 Ultimate qui s’adresse à un public qui sait exactement pourquoi il achètera le smartphone gamer d’Asus.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 provided reliably good image quality when shooting with the main camera module, thanks to accurate target exposure, especially on portrait scenes, as well as faithful and fairly pleasant colors. But the camera’s performance struggled to keep up with other Ultra-premium category devices. The autofocus performed swiftly and accurately, but color shifts were often visible in the sky in high-contrast scenes, and on occasion our testers also observed color casts in low-light shots. Despite a fairly high level of captured detail, night performance was overall fairly poor, due to high noise levels. The ROG Phone 7 also lacks a dedicated tele camera, which limits taking zoomed-in shots. In video mode, recorded clips showed generally good exposure and a wide dynamic range. However, colors could sometimes be inaccurate. While the autofocus reacted quickly, our testers observed some AF failures.

The Asus ROG Phone 7’s display performance was overall very good, mainly thanks to its touch capabilities, which are important for a device marketed for gaming. In that regard, the ROG Phone 7 screen’s responsiveness to the touch was always accurate. In addition, the smartphone handled scrolling the Web or gaming smoothly and comfortably. However, the screen did have a tendency to show visible aliasing and stutter while playing video games, which diminished the overall gaming experience. In another use case — watching videos — the device was unable to smoothly play the videos at 60 frames per second without mismatching frames. Otherwise, when the device was used in indoor lighting conditions, the screen’s brightness was always well-managed and did not require any manual adjustments for playing video games, scrolling or just viewing photos.

To back up the performance, ASUS has added the highest-grade cooling possible in a smartphone along with a huge battery that will keep your gaming session for hours. The display is also fabulous and so is its camera. No matter which game you are trying to play on your smartphone, you can rely easily on knowing it will run smoothly. Even day-to-day applications will run great, thanks to the lightweight stock interface. The only thing it lacks is wireless charging however, you can’t charge wirelessly when playing games anyway, so we understand why ASUS chose not to add it to the smartphone. Overall, it is a fantastic smartphone but if you want an alternative to ROG Phone 7 that is also equally powerful or more, then you should look for the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro smartphone which comes in a similar price range and specifications.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 performed well in our battery test protocol and ranked in the top part of our database. Although the ROG Phone 7 behaved very much like the Asus ROG Phone 6, its scores were below its predecessor, especially in autonomy and efficiency because of higher discharge currents. With a huge 6000mAh battery, the autonomy of the Asus ROG Phone 7 was excellent, providing three full days when used moderately. But when testing individual usages, the device struggled when listening to music. Other usages showed very good performances, especially when calling, streaming video and using the camera on-the-go, but they did not reach the autonomy of the Asus ROG Phone 6. The autonomy when gaming was also quite good, even though it, too, was slightly less than its predecessor. The ROG Phone 7’s charging experience was good, taking only 1 hour to replenish the large battery.

In the DXOMARK Audio tests, the gaming-oriented Asus ROG Phone 7 was an all-around great performer with an AeroActive Cooler feature that could give an additional boost to the sound experience when gaming. The Asus did very well both as a Playback device and when recording sound but was slightly held back by the lack of an audio zoom feature. Our experts also noticed some bass distortion with the built-in speakers. In Playback the ROG Phone 7 achieved the best results when listening to music but also did very well when watching movies or gaming. As a recording device it was best when filming video selfies but also achieved excellent results with the main camera and memo apps, making it an easy recommendation to any sound-focused smartphone user.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. est un important fabricant de matériel informatique taïwanais basé à Taipei, fondé en 1989. Sous la marque Asus, la société fabrique une large gamme de produits, notamment des ordinateurs portables, des ordinateurs de bureau, des cartes mères, des cartes graphiques, des moniteurs, des smartphones et des équipements réseau. , des systèmes complets et des composants PC pour les utilisateurs finaux.

Sous la marque ROG (Republic of Gamers), ASUS fabrique des ordinateurs portables de jeu connus des joueurs pour leurs spécifications puissantes, leurs cartes graphiques dédiées, leurs écrans à taux de rafraîchissement élevé et leurs systèmes de refroidissement avancés.

Au-delà des jeux, une large gamme d'ordinateurs portables est proposée pour différents besoins et budgets, des ultrabooks ultra-minces et légers aux convertibles 2-en-1 polyvalents et aux options économiques. En 2023, Asus détenait une part de marché mondiale de 7 % sur le marché des PC.

SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones qui a été introduit fin 2022 avec un noyau principal rapide basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X3 cadencée jusqu'à 3,2 GHz. Deux autres cœurs performants sont basés sur l'A715 et ne prennent également en charge que les applications 64 bits. Les deux autres cœurs A710 prennent également en charge les applications 32 bits, tout comme les cœurs Cortex-A510, qui permettent d'économiser de l'énergie. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 7, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5x jusqu'à 4 200 MHz. La 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70.
