Vous l'avez compris, ce laptop n'est pas conçu pour le jeu. En revanche, pour regarder des vidéos, il est excellent. Doté d'une dalle OLED HDR 500 True Black, il offre une qualité remarquable. Pour le travail également, bien que la définition puisse pousser à plisser les yeux, il propose un bon espace de travail qui peut être également ajusté via Windows. Finalement, ce qui nous plaît dans ce laptop, ce n'est pas tant ses performances que la discrétion qu'il offre, tant dans ses dimensions que dans la chaleur qu'il dégage, les nuisances sonores et son design. En revanche, son prix est aussi élevé que son autonomie. Il reste très endurant, mais son coût atteint jusqu'à 2000 € pour l'acquérir.

in et léger malgré son grand format de 15 pouces, le Zenbook 15 OLED est à ce stade l’un des principaux concurrents de l’Apple MacBook Air 15. Les deux appareils partagent en effet les mêmes mensurations (peu ou prou) tout en profitant chacun d’approches très différentes en matière de design et de spécifications. C’est en cela qu’il est difficile d’ignorer la proposition que nous fait ASUS avec ce produit. L’ultraportable XXL du constructeur taïwanais bat d’ailleurs son concurrent américain sur la qualité d’affichage (technologie OLED et 120 Hz oblige), et profite en prime de certains bonus appréciables (connectiques plus riches, pavé numérique, meilleure webcam et identification faciale). Cela dit, il compromet sérieusement sa force de frappe par une autonomie trop fébrile et nous limite à un format 16:9 frustrant en 2023.

Il prend un virage plus écologique et cette réflexion se ressent dès le déballage. Du choix des matériaux jusqu’à celui des composants en passant par la connectique, ASUS ne laisse rien au hasard. Cette exigence est palpable lorsqu’on utilise le Zenbook S 13 et aide ce modèle à se démarquer sur son segment. Sa dernière machine répond à tout ce que l'on est en droit d’attendre d’un excellent PC portable de 2023. Excellent, mais trop cher, résume bien l’impression que nous avons de ce nouveau Zenbook S13 OLED, qui parvient à faire mieux que son prédécesseur sur (presque) tous les terrains — mais en nous le faisant payer plein pot. Élégant, hyper compact, admirablement léger, plus respectueux de l’environnement, performant et bien pourvu, tant sur l’audio qu’en termes de qualité d’affichage, l’appareil ne pèche pratiquement nulle part… sinon sur le plan tarifaire. Avec un tarif fixé à 1 800 euros, l’appareil est 300 euros plus cher que le MacBook Air M2, sans pour autant parvenir à surclasser l’ultraportable d’Apple en termes de ratio performances / autonomie. On regrette également que ce nouveau Zenbook soit équipé d’un écran très brillant, manquant parfois de luminosité. Heureusement, la qualité d’image offerte par la technologie OLED compense en partie ce défaut.

On disait du modèle 2022 qu'il n'était pas loin du sans-faute. Avec sa version 2023, l'Asus Zenbook S 13 nous offre une nouvelle fois tout ce que l'on avait apprécié auparavant : un format contenu, une autonomie de toute une journée, un écran sublime... Mais le constructeur va plus loin en redoublant d'originalité sur son design tout en réduisant son empreinte carbone. Hélas, on ne peut ignorer que cette configuration sous Intel de 13e génération est tout simplement moins performante que celle sous AMD de l'année précédente. De très peu, certes, et particulièrement dans un usage soutenu, mais c'est assez pour nous faire hésiter sur la recommandation. Particulièrement alors que le Zenbook S 13 de 2022 n'a pas franchement assez vieilli en comparaison pour ne pas être toujours aussi recommandable en 2023. Le Zenbook S 13 de 2023 est sans nul doute un excellent ultrabook qui ravira ses acheteurs, et est représentatif d'un mouvement écologique vers lequel on apprécie qu'Asus se dirige. Cependant, si vous cherchez à maîtriser vos dépenses, tournez vous plutôt vers la version 2022. En attendant de voir peut-être une version AMD pointer le bout de son nez ?

Apple made a remarkably good case with the new Macbook Air release, but if you’re looking for a workhorse in the Windows environment; this would have to be in the running in some strong competition. Small laptops aren’t for everyone, but if you’re on the move a lot, the small and lightweight form factor is very welcome. Asus has added to this form factor, a slick look and comfortable to use feel; despite its small form factor. It’s so easy to carry, and for someone who spends a lot of time working from a laptop, I just didn’t feel like there was any compromise in moving to the Zenbook 13. The sale price of $2,099.00 (at the time of publishing the review, RRP AU$2,399.00) is a pretty reasonable cost for a device as capable as the Zenbook 13. Unless you’re shopping on a pretty tight budget, the extra money to get this over a $1,200.00 – $1,600.00 laptop will get you great portability and longevity from your purchase.

I'm surprised at how poorly it scored in our display and performance tests, and there are many better options if you don't mind a thicker, heavier laptop. The OLED-equipped Dell XPS 13 Plus is more expensive and offers worse battery life but better performance, for example, whereas the Framework Laptop lacks an OLED option or a sleek design but is a more capable, longer-lasting productivity machine.

Here comes the painful part – ASUS is asking RM5,999 for the Core i7 spec of the new Zenbook S 13 OLED, and it would probably have been fine… if not for the existence of the predecessor which sells for the same price, while offering vastly superior performance thanks to the powerful Ryzen chip. You do get slightly better battery life in the new model, so ultimately it depends on your priority – performance or battery life? The new change of direction for the Zenbook S 13 OLED could be a risky one, given that we’ve already listed quite a few feature regressions across the board. We were impressed with the Asus Zenbook S 13’s featherlight form, comfortable keyboard, long battery life, and vibrant OLED display. While its performance was certainly sluggish—especially at this laptop’s price point—it wouldn’t be absurd to spend a little extra on something you’ll find easier to use or more aesthetically pleasing than cheaper options. But you won’t want to try performing intense tasks like editing 8K videos on this laptop. If your job or hobby requires something with a little more processing power, check out Lenovo’s Slim Pro 7 14, which can handle heavier workloads (including gaming!) while saving you $200. You could also splurge on the ultra-light MSI Prestige 13 Evo, which costs $100 more but delivers performance that won’t leave you hanging (or sting your lap). Form factor is a legitimate selling point, though.

So, how thin is too thin? I think the Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED is pressing up against that boundary. Not to say it's a bad laptop — it’s actually rather great. But the super slim chassis does mean Asus shoots itself in the foot from time to time. Whether it’s the tendency to overheat and throttle power slightly, or the battery life not being able to hang with its slighly less ultraportable brethren, the S 13 makes some compromises for the sake of its mightily impressive size and weight. But I can’t deny that I really enjoyed using this tiny system around the home, and out and about. This is a seriously sleek machine with enough performance for your day-to-day, and a drop dead gorgeous OLED display.

The move to Intel’s U-series chips and a desire for even greater lightweight dimensions has seen Asus come a cropper. A high starting price of £1499/$1399.99, with only the Core i7 model available in the UK, also starts it off on unsteady ground. It’s not a huge fall from grace though, with the fan noise being the largest irritant, but it can be dodged with Asus’ Whisper Mode. The productivity capabilities are up to snuff and it’s remarkably portable, while the lush OLED display is a phenomenal coup for this laptop. But, just don’t expect much in the way of gaming or creative capabilities. If you want the best Windows laptop for stylish lightweight design, this is still right up there, and the battery life remains strong too.

Even the negatives here are pretty negligible…if I all I can complain about are the trackpad being a clicky button instead of a motor (that’s a first world problem for sure!), a slight whine from the fans, and some bloatware that you can easily and quickly uninstall, then that says a lot.

Well, well, well. What in the world of thin and light laptops was that?! It has a ton of performance, good speakers, a brilliant display, and it actually acts as a proper notebook. Yes, ASUS engineers have clearly done their homework. And while the performance is pretty sick, and quite frankly – puzzling, one of the more intriguing features is how they managed to cram a 63Wh battery pack inside this constrained space. Not only they did do that, but you get more than 15 hours of Web browsing, or 11 hours and 30 minutes of video playback from a single charge. All of that comes in a chassis that is made out of a magnesium-aluminum alloy, weighs 1 kilo, and has a profile of 10-11mm. By the way, there are so many ASUS notebooks that feature an OLED panel that we often take the technology for granted.

Thankfully, with the Zenbook S 13 OLED, you’re getting a well-rounded, ultra-thin laptop that has a beautiful screen, great performance, solid build, really good battery life, and an environmentally-conscious approach that you can’t find anywhere else.

But I am so, so pleased to see all-day battery life from an Intel machine that I’m finding it hard to care too much about the Zenbook’s other flaws. At the end of the day, this device is a good package, and the combination of performance, screen, port selection, specs, and battery life that it offers beat what you’ll find in some more expensive products. There are areas for improvement, particularly with the speakers and trackpad, but not many egregious compromises. If you’re asking me for a Windows-running MacBook Air alternative, the Zenbook S 13 OLED is very much it.

Can tech and style mix? As a true blue tech nerd and a fashionista, I definitely think so. When shopping for a new laptop, I recommend ASUS's Zenbook S line. S officially stands for "slim", but in my mind it can also mean stylish. For the new S13 OLED, sustainable comes to mind as well. Reviewing Asus' Zenbook S13 OLED 2023, an ultraportable laptop boasting 13th Gen Intel power and ridiculously good features. Vs the Macbook Air M2, the Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED is a seriously strong rival for creators, with enough power for light gaming on the side. It's one of the best slim notebooks I've reviewed in 2023 or indeed ever! So what makes this laptop so compelling? Well, the thin and light design means you can carry the Zenbook S13 OLED anywhere you go, yet the connectivity is top notch. That 2.8k display is a stunner and the MyAsus app allows you to tweak the gamut, to suit creative tasks, movie playback, whatever. Power is provided by the Intel 13th Gen Core i7 1355U, serving up strong enough performance for photo editing, gaming on reasonably demanding titles and working in Chrome with dozens of tabs open. The Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED 2023 can also last almost six hours with mixed use - not bad at all considering the size of this laptop. Usability gets a thumbs up despite an issue with that touchpad.
