Remember the Gateway NV7915u? Back in our Spring 2010 retail roundup of laptops, the budget-priced 17-incher won our Best of Budget category, and also received an Editors' Choice recommendation. The Gateway NV7901u has a large screen, a Core i5 processor and very good graphics at a reasonable price, but leaving Blu-ray out of the package might be a deal-breaker for some.

As a rule, big notebooks don't come cheap, and for that reason alone, the $849, 17.3-inch Gateway NV7901u caught our attention. And once we started testing it, this budget desktop replacement won us over for its speed, feature set, and spacious feel. Equipped with a Core i5 CPU and dedicated ATI graphics chip, this big laptop offers the best price-versus-performance ratio you’ll find among 17-inch machines.

For the budget minded users, the HP Pavilion dv7t and the Gateway NV79 are godsends. The Gateway NV7901u offers a large display, the newest Core CPU, a built-in DVD drive and strong dedicated graphics power, all under $1,000. Sure it’s over 7 pounds, but the notebook looks modern and it’s pretty thin for a 17.3” beast.

The Gateway NV7901U is simply a phenomenal bang for your buck. You will have to spend much, much more than this machine's $899 price tag to get more performance.

If you can deal with its stiff touch button and reflective display, the $849 Gateway NV7901u is a strong choice for people who want a notebook with a screen large enough to multitask and watch movies. And it has the power to play most of the latest games. The Acer 5740G, which has the same specs and offers slightly better framerates for $749, may seem like the better deal, we’d give the edge to the Gateway, which has a larger and a higher resolution screen.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650: Carte de moyenne gamme supportant DirectX 11 qui consomme 15-20 Watt. Avec Eyevision (jusqu'à 6 moniteurs)

La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).

430M: Le Core i5-430M est un dual core avec 3 Mo de cache L3 (comparé au I7-640M) avec une fréquence entre 2.26 et 2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). De plus, VT-d, trusted Execution et l'encodage AES ne sont pas sur le 430M. Mais avec l'Hyperthreading, 4 cores sont virtuellement actifs. la carte graphique intégrée (Intel HD Graphics cadencée à 500-733 MHz) avec un contrôleur mémoire DDR3.
