Both Huawei Pura 70 Pro and 70 Pro Plus are great smartphones and will offer a premium experience to anyone who picks up the phone. Everything from the display to the camera to the battery is absolutely phenomenal and will easily go toe to toe with any other smartphone in the same price range. However, the two new smartphones hide a dark secret in the form of the chipset. While the name of the chipset may indicate a flagship-level performance, it is just not true in reality.

Il s’agit de plus d’un smartphone à la fiche technique solide, porté par un design soigné, un écran de qualité et une autonomie longue durée. Cependant, son prix élevé le met en concurrence directe avec les meilleurs smartphones du marché, face auxquels il peine à justifier son positionnement. L’absence des services Google, le manque d’applications populaires et, la 5G absente sont autant de freins à l’achat pour un appareil de ce standing. Les plus aventureux pourront se tourner vers des solutions logicielles alternatives qui permettent de retrouver les services Google dans le téléphone. Mais elles sont logiquement moins intuitives que sur un modèle qui les propose d’emblée. Le Huawei Pura 70 Ultra reste un excellent photophone qui peut convenir à un public averti, prêt à faire des concessions pour profiter de ses atouts photo et de sa grande autonomie.

Pour ce test, nous avons donc utilisé Aurora, une application qui puise directement dans le Play Store pour contourner l'embargo. L'idée est excellente, mais pour un smartphone à 1500 euros, l'expérience n'est toujours pas au niveau de ce que nous attendrions. L'absence de 5G est aussi rédhibitoire.

Certes… mais il en existe d'autres aussi impressionnants et qui sont bien moins frustrants sur absolument tous les autres aspects de sa proposition. S'offrir le Pura 70 Ultra, c'est accepter de faire une croix sur Android tel qu'on le connait et qu'on l'a toujours connu. C'est choisir de suivre des tutoriels à rallonge pour des choses aussi simples qu'installer une application qui n'est pas présente sur l'App Gallery, et s'arracher encore les cheveux plus tard, car les notifications ne fonctionnent pas comme elles le devraient.

Phone photographers will be genuinely impressed by the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra. It has a stunning set of sensors and image processing that rivals any of the flagships I’ve tested this year. This had the biggest influence on my star rating, which given the criticisms I’ve outlined below, shows just how good a cameraphone this is. Yet as much as I also like its beautiful display, slick styling and large battery, a few major stumbles kill any hope of mainstream appeal – at least here in the West. An uncompetitive chipset, missing 5G support and lack of Google services hobble what’s otherwise a fantastic handset. A Xiaomi 14 Ultra can be had for less cash, while also delivering more power, equally outstanding cameras, and access to the Play Store without needing any hacky workarounds. It’s a different story in China, where Pura 70 Ultra is doing big business – but for everyone else, this simply isn’t as complete a package as you’ll find from its rivals.

Should you buy the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra? Well… there are a lot of factors that you should consider here. This is a great phone, there’s no doubt about that. It has an excellent camera performance, some of the best. It’s immensely comfortable to hold and use, and it has a great display too. The software is very optimized, plus it’s the most versatile phone on the planet when it comes to charging. There are a lot of benefits here. You need to consider the elephant in the room, though, apps. AppGallery grew so much, but chances are you’ll still have to rely on app repositories, GBox, and Aurora Store. If that’s not a problem for you, you can get pretty much any app running on the phone. Still, the experience is not as streamlined as it would be if Google Services came pre-installed. This is not a phone for everyone, but if you’re willing to make a couple of sacrifices along the way, it is a very compelling device.

In global markets, the Pura 70 Ultra still runs EMUI (based on the increasingly outdated Android 12) rather than HUAWEI’s Harmony OS spin-off, which you’ll find in China. If you’ve used a P series flagship — now rebranded to Pura — in recent years, you’ll be instantly familiar with the heavily iOS-inspired skin, unholy level of bloatware, and various Google-app replacements. I could install a good portion of my regularly used Android apps, but certainly not all of them. For example, the ecosystem split means that I couldn’t use any of my banking apps on the phone for a start.

You have an equally beautiful display to review everything you have taken. When you are not creating content though, you can use the phone to play your favorite games, watch videos, or surf the internet without worrying about performance issues. Not to mention it looks good too, and it has a strong battery life with fast charging capabilities. The only downside is that you do not have 5G connectivity, and will be limited to just 4G LTE. At the same time, there is still the issue with the lack of native Google support. This means that some apps will have to be run through GBox or users will have to find a similar APK on the net.

However, the older processor architecture, and the sheer amount of hassle required to get Google service working make this phone a tough sell for Western customers. Especially when you consider the price. At €1499, it’s one of the priciest flagships around. If you genuinely only care about camera performance, then it’s still worth considering. The cameras really are that good. However, most people would be better off opting for a phone like the Honor Magic 6 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, both of which combine excellent camera systems with speedy performance and full Google support.

Plus, it has an impressive design and build, an excellent display, superb charging capabilities, flagship-grade speakers, and whatnot. What it doesn't have is the Snapdragon 8 Gen performance and 5G connectivity outside China. It also doesn't have Google's Mobile Services, though this has not been that much of an issue since the existence of Gbox and the alternatives. We can see Huawei fans getting this phone in a heartbeat because it is shaping up to be that good. But it will be a tough job to convince anyone that is not after Huawei's camera experience, not outside its homeland at least. But does it matter anyway? Huawei is expecting to ship over 10 million Pura 70 units, most of them in China, which is plenty enough to keep it going.

The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is a great smartphone that befits its flagship stature. Though it might not be the best of the bunch, I would commend it as the value king of the Pura 70 series. With its retail price of RM4,899, it might be a bit of a tough sell given its shortcomings but if you can live without 5G support nor GMS, and are already within the HUAWEI ecosystem such as with their MateBooks or FreeBuds, it is more than capable of serving you well. You might not get the Ultra’s 1-inch sensor here but keep in mind, that is almost RM2,000 more and this is already an excellent shooter.

I haven’t spent long enough with the Huawei Pura 70 Pro to reach a proper conclusion, but on first impressions, it seems like an excellent phone with lots of great features. Unfortunately, the lack of Google services and an underwhelming processor mean that it’s not going to be considered by most people. The real pull of the Pura 70 series is the camera performance and with the Ultra offering better specifications, I can’t help but feel people will be drawn to that instead. That said, I haven’t properly put this camera to the test yet, it might be just as impressive.

The Huawei Pura 70 is an attractive and feature-packed flagship that comes in a slightly smaller and more affordable package. However, while the Pura 70 Ultra shines with one of the most accomplished camera systems on the market, the standard Pura 70 dials back the specs significantly. If you rely on Google services, then Huawei phones are a pretty tough sell, but the Ultra’s exceptional cameras might make it worth the hassle of installing workarounds. I haven’t tested these cameras properly, but they’re almost guaranteed to be less impressive, so the Pura 70 might be hard to recommend. At this stage, that’s speculation, though. We all know the megapixel count isn’t everything.

Huawei:

Ses cartes graphiques ne sont pas faites pour le jeu. Et même si ils tournent, ce sera avec des erreurs d'affichage et un framerate ignoble. Ce cartes graphique sont totalement incompatible avec les joueurs! les applications de bureau et d'Internet, ne sont pas un problème pour ces cartes graphiques.

La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).
