EN→FR Archive.org versionAt last shiny black all over is not what all notebooks seem to be. Here a 15.6inch screen offering with a quad core Intel i3 processor. I normally try to review some more demanding software not designed specifically for the hardware and of this occasion it was the rather nice ArtRage Studio Pro software that you should see a review for in a few days.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe budget-conscious Acer Aspire 5749 won't win any prizes for good looks but it's sturdily built, has a punchy Intel Core i3 processor to aid multitasking and tons of hard drive space to store important documents, photos and videos.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe budget end of the laptop market has often meant poor performance, shoddy build quality and disgusting design. The Acer Aspire 5749 offers an interesting design, a good screen and relatively swift performance for a very reasonable price. It won't tackle the more hardcore of tasks, but it's a great choice for general computing on a budget.

EN→FR Archive.org versionIt's easy to underestimate the Aspire 5749 when you look at the £400 pricetag and the all-plastic case, but when you cast your eye over the specifications and try it out it starts to look more attractive. Add in decent battery life, an impressive screen for the price and sturdy build quality and what you're getting is closer to bargain than bargain basement. To get more you have to pay more and if you won't miss a more striking design - or Bluetooth, USB 3 and Gigabit Ethernet - the Aspire is a good basic buy.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Acer Aspire 5749's approach to laptop design is one we like. It has removed any extraneous features many people won't appreciate, such as USB 3.0, instead investing in solid build, a decent screen and a plucky Sandy Bridge i3 processor. It may not have style or grace, but it gets the basics right. Unfortunately, we found the battery life didn’t quite meet expectations, making this a sound, rather than great, buy.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Aspire 5749 is far from being the most powerful machine on the market, but the combination of respectable battery life and more than sufficient processing power could make this an ideal notebook for the cash-strapped. It may have its foibles, but Acer has released a decent computer at a very attractive price.

Intel HD Graphics 3000:
