Inspiring. Ultrabooks have found their way into Dell's Inspiron family. The all-rounders of the past now benefit from lower weight and longer battery life, in addition to the good performance. We examine whether the ultrabook measures up to the broad multimedia class.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Dell Inspiron 15z is a very good performer in office applications and even gaming. It looks good and has a decent build quality. The large 15.6" screen and the comfortable full-sized keyboard along with the responsive touchpad make it an ideal desktop replacement. Moderate gaming is also possible, thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce GT630M. However, it is a little too heavy to be considered portable. Also, it doesn't really give you the battery backup to stay away from a charging point for a long duration. The Inspiron 15z is rather expensive at Rs 75,000. In day to day applications, you can also opt for the ASUS S550CM, which is also a good performer, and although it has a slower Core i5, or the Acer Aspire M3 Touch.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe refreshed Inspiron ultrabook range feels a lot better to use. The "budget" build quality of the previous version has given way to a much more premium feel, while keeping the same design. Performance is quite good. But why you would consider the Inspiron 15z as an ultrabook, all models included, will be because you need the bigger display. With this particular model that we have tested, the Core i7 and 8GB RAM offer excellent performance as well. The touchscreen is an added feature, but we aren't sure if you will really need it that often. Consider this, only if you need the most powerful machine, in the ultrabook form factor. Else, the lower spec version of the Inspiron 15z would make a lot more sense.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe flagship version of the Dell Inspiron 15z will set you back Rs 74,990, plus taxes. This makes it quite expensive for an Inspiron, which were originally supposed to be budget-oriented notebooks. The high-end model then really doesn’t make much practical sense since you’ll seldom use the touchscreen. We weren’t very impressed with the build quality either. Overall, the Inspiron 15z is a decent buy if you pick the one that costs around Rs 50,000, but any configuration above that is not worth the premium.

EN→FR Archive.org versionIs the Dell Inspiron 15Z an Ultrabook? From our perspective it’s not very mobile, has relatively short battery life and could do with an SSD but seen from the 15-inch laptop perspective there’s an attractive package here. Only the screen disappoints in that respect and that might not be a problem for those planning to work using an external screen. We truly enjoyed the A/V capabilities of the 15Z – there’s nothing quite as easy as throwing your favorite DVD onto this and kicking back – as long as it’s only you. An IPS screen could have widened, literally, the viewer opportunity.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Dell Inspiron 15z is a 15.6" ultrabook with a low price tag, starting at £579. But is it worth the money? It's too bad Dell didn't do more for the Inspiron 15z's audio and display, because the only selling points it really has left are connectivity, processing power and battery life, which isn't much for a sector as competitive as the 15.6-inch ultrabook market.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Dell Inspiron 15z-5523 boasts solid performance and a feature set that helps deliver a smooth and intuitive Windows 8 experience. While it's not quite as powerful as our current Editors' Choice for ultrabooks, the Asus Zenbook UX32VD-DB71, it nonetheless gives plenty of bang for the buck, making it worthy of consideration for anyone on the market for a system capable of delivering equal doses of productivity and entertainment.

EN→FR Archive.org versionGoing big hasn’t caused the 15z to compromise its Ultrabook roots. This is a snappy, portable system. While it isn’t a performance powerhouse, it does meet the demands of the average consumer. Like Lenovo’s U-Series Ultrabooks, the 15z excels not because it is extraordinary in any one category but because it is consistently competent.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe world needs more midsize, midprice laptops that match Windows 8 with a touch screen. And, if they can work in a slim optical drive, as in the case of the Dell Inspiron 15z, all the better. But, once you get close to that magic $1,000 mark (this 15z is $899), your options become very wide, and an upgraded Inspiron, still stuck with a low-res screen, may not be your top choice.

EN→FR Archive.org versionWith the Inspiron 15z, Dell delivers a lightweight (for its size) notebook with a handsome aluminum chassis and a 15.6-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen display. Aditionally, its Core i5 CPU and 32GB cache deliver above-average performance, which should appeal to students and families alike. For $899, though, we would prefer a higher-resolution display and longer battery life.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Dell Inspiron 15z continues to deliver an accomplished laptop experience without any of the extra bells and whistles that manufacturers use to market new devices. It's an old-fashioned laptop experience with significant build quality, design and technical power to lift it above the hoardes of budget notebooks.

Commentaire
