I’m not sure I’d actually describe the Gigabyte G5 as a thoroughbred gaming laptop but rather as a general-purpose laptop with good gaming capabilities. That may seem like a pernickety distinction, but I expect dedicated gaming laptops to have better displays and speakers than the G5 and a gaming-optimised keyboard, even if that only extends to highlighted WASD keys and a performance mode shortcut. The G5 is a very versatile and good-value laptop – there’s nothing else on the market with an RTX 4060 GPU at anything like the price – with a broad selection of ports, a decent keyboard and enough performance to play demanding games and chew through heavy productivity tasks in short order. Granted, the screen is rather low-rent and the least said about the speaker system, the better, but what more can you expect for £1,000? However, our preferred budget pick is the MSI GF63 Thin.

The Gigabyte G5 KF (2023) delivered some very solid results when considering the price. The combination of an RTX 4060 and a 1080p display is a great pairing for gaming and should be able to keep up with the latest titles. In games that support DLSS 3 Frame Generation, that gaming performance can be pushed even further. The performance profile is rather aggressive, leading to the CPU using 75 watts over a sustained workload, which in turn does lead to very high temperatures which may lead to thermal throttling in some situations, but this was observed during synthetic workloads and benchmarks which push the system harder than everyday use. The all-plastic chassis does feel relatively cheap, as does the trackpad. However, they are acceptable when we take the price and specs into consideration as a premium machine, this is not.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU:
Carte graphique haut de gamme pour ordinateurs portables basée sur l'architecture Ada Lovelace. Offre 8 GB GDDR6 (128 Bit) et est configurable avec un TGP de 35 - 115W (+ Dynamic Boost).
Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.

i5-12500H:
CPU mobile basé sur Alder Lake avec 4 cœurs de performance et 8 cœurs efficaces. Les cœurs de performance offrent un hyper threading, conduisant à 16 threads pouvant être traités. Le processeur fonctionne à des fréquences allant de 1,8 à 4,5 GHz et prend en charge vPro.
