HP is ever keen to talk up its Dr. Dre Beats Audio sound systems, so it comes as no surprise that the company has now named a notebook after its Beats Audio credentials. For a mid-ranger, the HP dm4 notebook packs in some good features – it’s stylish, capable, has good battery life, and offers excellent audio. Hard to beat for $900.

Marketed by HP as the ultimate audio noteook, it really was able to deliver exceptional audio quality - even using typical tiny earbuds. The dm4 isn't just about the audio, though ... our review unit was also able to deliver good performance at this price point. It can definitely compete against all of the other mid-range 14-inch multimedia notebooks in that regard without breaking your wallet.

For a high-end midsize Windows laptop, HP's Envy line (starting at $1,049) is probably the first place you should look. The only real knock against this chic-looking 14-inch multimedia laptop is its plastic body; other than that, this is a great midrange laptop with a unique, eye-catching design.

As with the Envy 14, HP took a great consumer notebook in the Pavilion dm4 and gave it a slick finish. Additionally, HP made some noticeable improvements under the hood, including a faster processor and hybrid hard drive. Those who want more powerful graphics should look to the $999 Dell XPS 14z, which also has pretty good audio to boot. More budget-conscious shoppers should consider the regular $649 dm4, which also boasts Beats Audio minus the snazzy design. Overall, though, the HP Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition is a solid choice for consumers searching for a stylish and highly portable multimedia notebook.

Intel HD Graphics 3000:

3 GPUs à venir (1er Trimestre 2011) intégrés aux CPU Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). Les 3000 / 200 correspondent à la puce GT2 avec 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.
