Big, bigger, Huawei Ascend Mate. Although officially a smartphone, the Huawei Ascend Mate could pass easily as a tablet with its 6.1-inch display. But as the test shows, the XXL phone has quite a bit more to offer than just its imposing screen.

For the money, the Ascend Mate is not at all a bad device. The screen is good, the price is right – Vodafone is offering it for £25 a month with nothing down, and you can pick unlocked examples up for under £340 – battery life excellent and there are some interesting VLP software optimisations like the two-thirds keyboard. And while made predominantly of plastic, it still manages to look and feel rather more upmarket than the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Performance isn’t bad either, though I don’t see Huawei’s K3V2 chipset keeping the folk at Nvidia or Qualcomm awake at night. Shame about that Google+ bug though.

However, we can't help but think that those after a large-screened smartphone have better choices on the market, like the Asus Fonepad, for example. While we were impressed with the screen and battery life, Huawei's overbearing UI is unlikely to win over many users, who might become frustrated by the handset's lacklustre performance, despite its high-end quad-core processor.

For Rs. 24,900 you get some pretty good specifications under the hood of the Ascend Mate and a really large display. For the same price you get some really great performing devices such as the Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S3 and more. What the Ascend Mate brings to the table is a really large display that's good for running multimedia content and playing games but considering the size of the device we wish the resolution were higher than 720p. The camera on the phone is lacklustre. You can consider picking up the Mate if a large display is mandatory for you, and you don't mind using a new UI. It's a better option than the Galaxy Mega 5.8 as well, if you are looking for performance and not familiarity.

At times, the Ascend Mate comes across as a two-sided smartphone. There's the would-be flagship, with a big screen and even bigger battery life. If you value those two factors above others, you may have found an ideal mobile companion: the Mate outperforms the Galaxy Note II and Optimus G Pro on both those fronts, and it may outlast the Galaxy Mega 6.3 on battery tests, too.

Milieu ou haut de gamme ? L’Ascend P2 marie un grand écran à un puissant SoC dans une robe tout en plastique noir. Les ambitions de cette alliance ne sont pas très claires : attaquer le haut du panier du marché du milieu gamme, ou les premiers prix du haut de gamme ? Une chose est certaine, des compromis ont été faits dans la conception de cet appareil. Où ? A vous de le découvrir dans cette petite critique.

At least that's the theory. Without some form of marketing and smart promotion in the US, few people will ever know enough about Huawei's phones. The Ascend Mate 2 4G at least does its part by justifying the attention those marketing efforts might generate. The $299 price tag positions it as a phone with half the cost of the average high-end device but possessing specs that are close enough to not frustrate users. In a head-to-head competition with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or an LG G3, Huawei's not going to win in any category except price. That might be an advantage for people choosing to pay full price for their handset. The Ascend Mate 2 4G has what's necessary to have a reasonably sound experience if you're not looking for the bleeding edge, and it's better than most phones in its price range. If you want to go big but not spend big, the Ascend Mate 2 4G is a sensible purchase.

That rings alarms in our heads, considering the phone is already a point release behind Android’s most recent build. Also, the price proximity to a superior alternative can’t be ignored: for just $50 more, you could buy a Nexus 5 with a more powerful processor, a sharper display, and the guarantee of long-term support directly from Google.

For such a big phone, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 fits surprisingly well in one hand and with the battery staying power, the ability to use it as an external battery charger and some two decent quality cameras there’s a lot to like. What we are not particularly fans of is the design. The white glossy plastic is not the prettiest and we hoped Huawei would have attempted to create something more unique.

Deluxe 2.0. Huawei a mis un terme à la carrière de l'élégant Ascend P6 pour mettre son Ascend P7 sous les feux des projecteurs. L'objectif ? Attirer ceux qui sont en mal de haut de gamme. Le fabricant chinois demande ainsi près de 450 euros pour son tout dernier modèle premium. Le boitier en aluminium ne laisse transparaitre qu'un léger lifting esthétique mais bien plus de modifications ont été apportées en profondeur. Un des tout derniers SoC HiSilicon, 16 Go de stockage mémoire flash, un écran lumineux de 5 pouces et une résolution Full HD.

Offering performance comparable to 2013's range of flagship smartphones as well as decent cameras and battery life, there is plenty to like about the Ascend P7. However, the device is let down by Huawei's Emotion skin, which is one of the worst we've ever seen. As well as altering the Ascend P7's interface to the point it is all but unrecognisable to even the most seasoned of Android users, the interface is also buggy and in general hampers the user experience.

Selfie-maton. C'est à peu près ainsi que Huawei promeut son Ascend G6. Pourquoi ? Par la présence d'un appareil photo frontal d'une haute résolution de 5 MP. Les autres caractéristiques versent un peu plus dans le milieu de gamme, mais c'est ce qui permet de garder le prix à une valeur raisonnable. Huawei demande ainsi 249 euros pour son tout dernier Smartphone...

The Ascend G7 4G is set to retail for about £150 and will be available from Carphone Warehouse, Amazon and other online retailers, believed to be released sometime in the beginning of March This device should not be overlooked, especially if you’re after a larger screen phone. It feels more premium than its price tag, with fantastic battery life, and takes some decent photos. If my Note 3 stopped working tomorrow I think the Huawei Ascend G7 4G is where my money would be going.

The handset has a metal body that's punctuated by two plastic segments in the rear, top and bottom. The Huawei Ascend Y550 is currently available for £69 from EE and O2, and at that price it seems a reasonable deal. However, SIM-free you’ll pay up to £110, and at that price it’s awful. If you can afford a £100 phone, you can do much better than the Y550. The Motorola Moto G and EE Kestrel offer a better core experience. Even if you can’t afford that, the Motorola Moto E doesn’t have the same screen compromises as the Huawei Ascend Y550, although it doesn’t have 4G either and offers a much weaker CPU.

At the end of the day, the Huawei Ascend G620S is a £125 phone and at that price it's a bit of a bargain. I'd still argue that the Moto G (2014) is a better handset overall, though, thanks largely to its superior interface and more up-to-date OS. The Huawei Ascend G620S has such a clunky name that you'll likely forget what it's called by the time you get to your local mobile phone emporium, but if you do come home with one you probably won't be disappointed. You could certainly do a lot worse or spend a lot more money.

The Huawei Ascend G620S is a very solid budget Android phone that offers pretty strong value if you can swallow its quirks. Just look at what your get for around £100: 4G, a decent processor and a fair 720p screen. Not bad, is it? The bad bits include a highly reflective screen, a pretty slow camera and software that’s dated and unusual in parts. As the screen is that bit more reflective than the Moto G, this is not the new king of budget phones.

Huawei:

Ses cartes graphiques ne sont pas faites pour le jeu. Et même si ils tournent, ce sera avec des erreurs d'affichage et un framerate ignoble. Ce cartes graphique sont totalement incompatible avec les joueurs! les applications de bureau et d'Internet, ne sont pas un problème pour ces cartes graphiques.

Qualcomm Adreno 305: Le Qualcomm Adreno 305 est une puce graphique intégrée pour Smartphones et tablettes principalement utilisée dans les SoCs milieu de gamme Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 S4 Plus-series (comme le 8930AB du Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3). L'Adreno 305 n'offre habituellement que la moitié des performances de l'Adreno 320, la puce est donc légèrement au-dessus du Mali-400 MP4. Les jeux Android très gourmands de 2013 risquent de ne pas pouvoir tourner de manière complètement fluide, mais les jeux plus légers tel qu'Angry Birds et les tâches multimédias classiques ne poseront pas de problème.
