Lately, MSI is better known for its Wind netbooks than its gaming systems, but the GT627 aims to change that, as its quad-core power makes it ideal for power-hungry gamers on a budget. Even though we weren’t able to run all of our benchmarking tests at the GT627’s native screen resolution, once we hooked up an external monitor the machine proved that it had the power to pull off respectable scores. In fact, the GT627 even managed to hit 8197 3DMarks, which is approximately 15% lower than the Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 desktop replacement that costs twice as much. Even with the GT627’s relatively low native screen resolution, we feel that the MSI GT627 offers a great set of features and performance at a reasonable price.

As usual, MSI provides a laptop which while not without its share of flaws does provide good value. A strong all-rounder, the GT627 offers quad-core processing, 9800-series graphics, a slightly above average screen and decent battery life, as well as an attractive set of extras that include a bag and competent gaming mouse. This leaves just the questionable styling, which admittedly is quite a hurdle, but if you're prepared to be pragmatic there's plenty to enjoy here.

But there are a few compromises; while it packs the right hardware in a portable 15.4-inch form factor, the keyboard congestion really irked us. Gamers will appreciate the ability to use a full number pad for macros, but we think they would have appreciated a larger, more spacious keyboard instead. However, that the GT627 was able to cruise through Far Cry 2 without a glitch and that it outperformed the more expensive Alienware M17 in our PCMark Vantage test was impressive. If you need a system that will fit in your backpack and allow you to enjoy the latest titles, then the MSI GT627 is a good value.

Gaming performance is where this notebook showed its true colors, with high benchmarks and good in-game performance. MSI would have one of the best gaming notebooks with its great price, great looks, and excellent performance if not for the springboard chassis.

Commentaire

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) a été fondée en 1986 à Taïwan. MSI est surtout connu comme fabricant de cartes mères et de cartes graphiques pour PC, mais propose également des accessoires informatiques, des systèmes complets, des cartes mères, des cartes graphiques, des ordinateurs portables, des PC de bureau, des moniteurs et d'autres composants. Cependant, la marque Microstar en Allemagne appartient à la société Medion. MSI est connu pour ses produits de jeu et a développé une large gamme d'ordinateurs portables de jeu et d'ordinateurs de bureau. L'entreprise est également active dans les postes de travail, les serveurs et l'automatisation industrielle. MSI possède des bureaux en Amérique du Nord, en Europe, en Asie et en Australie.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS:

Comme la 9800M GTS, la 9800M GS est basée sur le core G94, mais dispose d'une plus faible vitesse d'horloge. Il est fabriqué en 55 nm et, par conséquent, a une plus faible consommation de courant max (60W). Le moteur PureVideo HD intégré est capable de décoder des vidéos HD.

Intel Core 2 Duo:

C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.

P8600: Un dual core puissant et pas cher. Suffisant pour la plupart des applications avec un TDP de 25W TDP donc compatible avec les portables les plus mobiles.

Intel Core 2 Quad:

Q9000: Un CPU quad core assez peu puissant (4 cores) qui n'est pas conçu pour les jeux mais pour les applications de création qui profitent de plusieurs coeurs.
