Verdict.

Motorola's $699 Razr phone is the mainstream foldable we've been waiting for
Source: Zdnet.com Anglais EN→FR
Shopping in the mid-range market can be difficult because it's all about how manufacturers balance specs and features, and how those values align with your personal needs. In the case of the Motorola Razr, its foldable form factor alone makes it stand out from a sea of glass slabs, and the $699 price makes it the most accessible option of its kind. Of course, you'll have to be okay with its compromises, including the just-average camera system, smaller external display, and 128GB storage limit. Otherwise, this is as good as a foldable gets at this price point, and I fully expect competitors to match Motorola's offer as soon as next year.

Since the Motorola Razr launched and refreshed the Razr brand, there hasn’t been a cooler-looking phone to come along and steal its clamshell crown. 80% Motorola Razr 40 review: Mostly cuts in the right places
Source: Expert Reviews Anglais EN→FR
Performance and night photography are problems here, but the biggest obstacle facing the Razr 40 is the reduced functionality of its external display. Though not the biggest selling point of flip phones, being able to watch videos and play games on the secondary screen is a fun novelty, and omitting it is a big risk when all of the current competition offers it in some form or another. If this is a concession that you’re willing to accept, however, the Razr 40 mostly works as an “entry-level” flip phone. The design is sleek and portable, battery life keeps pace with the pricier alternatives, and between the incredible colour accuracy and small hinge crease, this could well be the best display on any flip phone to date. For those waiting on the inevitable affordability revolution before jumping on the flip phone bandwagon – this isn’t it. But it is, at least, a solid step in the right direction.

I’m all for features that help me use my phone more intentionally, but the Razr’s minimalist approach is just too minimal. A well-constructed focus mode schedule or a good lock screen interface would help you weed out unimportant notifications and surface the important ones with less frustration. Add on concerns about its durability and an unreliable camera, and I just can’t see a good argument for the Razr. If your heart is set on a flip phone, then I’m sorry to say that you’ll need to pay up for either the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 or the 2023 Razr Plus — both are good, though Samsung has the better track record for durability and software updates. The Google Pixel 7A is an excellent budget choice if price is more of a concern than foldability. But if you’re after a truly affordable foldable? It looks like you’ll just have to keep waiting.

The Motorola Razr is all about the design and made for people who want to try something new without spending a ton of money. It offers reasonably good performance, but the focus here is really on the premium look and feel and fun colors that stand out. If you want a more powerful or feature-rich folding phone, you need to step up to the costlier Razr+ or Galaxy Z Flip 5 for $300 more. And ultimately, the best option for flip phone fanatics is to find a discounted Razr+ or Z Flip 5. But if budget is one of your primary buying considerations and you’re looking to dip your toes into the swelling pool of foldables, the 2023 Razr is a good place to start.

80% The 2023 Motorola Razr makes foldables mainstream
Source: Android Authority Anglais EN→FR
Foldables are amazing examples of engineering prowess, and they can be great for multitasking or saving space in your pocket, but most of them are too expensive. With the Motorola Razr, there is no “but.” It’s not as capable as the Google Pixel 8 or the Samsung Galaxy S23, but it’s cheaper than those phones. The speed, battery life, build quality, and features are in line with the asking price. Most foldables stick to the tried and true formula of glass and metal bodies, but the cheaper Razr steps down to faux leather. And it works. The phone is much more grippy, which is important when you’re folding and unfolding all day. No matter how hard you slam it closed to hang up on an annoying caller, it’ll stay secure in your hand. If there’s a sore spot, it’s the camera. The results aren’t terrible for the price, but spending just $100 more on a Pixel 8 ($699 at Amazon) gets you the best smartphone camera experience. Motorola’s camera should be more capable in 2023, but a lot of phones in this price range are far behind the Pixel.

80% Motorola Razr (2023) review: Better than it should be
Source: Android Police Anglais EN→FR
I think Motorola is having its best year in 2023 than it has in a long time. While the Moto G line of phones has been consistently successful for the company for years now, it has struggled to gain ground with its flagship phones. The new Motorola Edge+ (2023) isn't flashy in the slightest, but it is an excellent phone that is a great buy for the price. Now, with two clamshell folding phones available in the US that have both been well-received, Motorola is looking good. The Razr is a good phone. It's not great, but overall, it is good, and at this price, that's crucial. Parts of the phone are great, like the build quality, the main display, the vegan leather finish, and the battery life. Cameras, performance, charging rate, and its exterior display are all, in my eyes, either good or good enough — especially when we take the phone's cost into account. The fact that you can now get a high-quality folding phone in the US for well under $1,000 is a revelation, and I'm really glad Motorola is the one to do it.

60% Motorola Razr (2023) Review: A Good, Cheap Foldable
Source: Android Headlines Anglais EN→FR
I honestly really like the Motorola Razr (2023), but the camera being as poor as it is, makes it a lot harder to recommend. Especially when phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and OPPO Find N3 Flip exist. Sure this is a $699 foldable, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is going to be that price in a month. And that makes the question of whether you should buy the Motorola Razr (2023) a pretty tough one to answer. Because the camera is such an important aspect of any phone these days. Basically, what it comes down to is, you get what you pay for. And here, you’re paying for the cheapest foldable on the market. So obviously, Motorola did need to cut some corners here. But the real question is, should you buy this Razr over the Razr+. Which is currently only $100 more than the Razr, and offers a whole lot more functionality, better battery life, better camera, and even better displays.

80% I reviewed Motorola’s cheapest folding phone, and it’s brilliant
Source: Digital Trends Anglais EN→FR
I love the Motorola Razr (2023). There’s very little fuss or pretentiousness to it, and it’s so much better for it. The compact flip design is its big feature, and Motorola has done the right thing by not overcomplicating everything else — and keeping the price down. This is a pick-up-and-use-every-day smartphone, with no need to learn dozens of features you’ll probably never use. And you also won’t be bothered by crushingly short battery life or be upset by a rubbish camera. It’s reliable, good-looking, and fun. Using the Razr (2023) for the last few weeks has been great, as it’s so convenient to carry around and use. On the negative side, I am frustrated by the decision not to make the cover screen show the time and notification alerts all the time. The wireless charging is a bit of a token effort, and the processor doesn’t seem to enjoy being pushed hard. Outside of this, it’s a fantastic buy and currently about the cheapest way to get into foldable smartphones. Motorola’s on a roll in 2023, and I recommend taking advantage of it.

80% Motorola Razr 2023 Review: The Best Foldable You Could Get for $700
Source: CNet Anglais EN→FR
There are certainly folks who the Razr 2023 will be perfect for, but they may fall in two camps: those who don't quite have the budget to pay $1,000 for a Razr Plus 2023 or Galaxy Z Flip 5, and those who want the fun clamshell format and are fine passing on the better photos taken by and the AI-powered editing tools in the similarly priced $700 Google Pixel 8. The Razr 2023 challenges the idea that consumers aren't buying foldables because they're too pricey. Will they show up for the most accessible flexible-display phone yet? Or will the market segment that can pay $700 continue shelling out around $1,000 for the latest-and-greatest in phone tech? The Razr 2023 makes a couple questionable choices in its list of compromises, but is overall shrewd in trimming features to get to a significantly lower price point than its competitors. It's fun to use, looks attractive and trickles down cool innovations to the upper cusp of the midrange market, but it remains to be seen if consumers want style over cameras as much as a reviewer like me does.

Motorola Razr (2023) Review: A Midrange Foldable With A Matching Price
Source: Slashgear Anglais EN→FR
If this phone existed in a vacuum, it's really just ok. It's not a great phone or an amazing phone, but what it offers is pretty special. This is a $599 ($699 after the introductory price drop) foldable phone that is available to buy in the United States. That is a very, very big deal and if you are looking for a flip-style foldable in the U.S., you suddenly have a lot of options in a lot of price points. When Motorola introduced us to the Moto Razr Plus and Moto Razr in June, it promised that the Moto Razr would be "meaningfully cheaper" and at $400 (or $300 depending on when you buy it) it is not only meaningfully cheaper, it's meaningfully cheap and very accessible. So the phone itself is not the best foldable you can buy. But it's an impactful statement all the same. You may not love the phone, but you should love what the phone represents. This is a midrange foldable, which is a sign that foldables have reached a maturity level where the midrange exists. As for whether or not you should buy it, that's a tougher question.

Motorola Razr 40 Smartphone Review
Source: OI Spice Tech News Anglais EN→FR
The Motorola Razr 40 provides a premium flagship experience that its competitors lack and it is launched at a price point that is left wide open. Most manufacturers are selling foldable smartphones at a premium price point and Motorola changed that by bringing in the Razr 40 at a relatively budget price point. It garnered some praise and applause for daring to bring the foldable smartphone value to a new price point. It did what other foldable smartphones failed to do. Motorola has the Razr 40 for the flagship and the Razr 40 Ultra for the ultra-premium market. Motorola has simply managed to do the impossible and made it a win-win situation. Its closest competitor is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, both in terms of performance and price point. The newer Samsung Galaxy Flip models are quite expensive and are not in the same realm as the Motorola Razr 40 smartphone.

The Razr 40 has balanced characteristics, good battery life, a good camera, but most importantly, its form factor gives a new experience to users. Another thing is how convenient you will find it, but this is up to everyone to decide for themselves. What is certain is that a smartphone will give you emotions and attract the attention of people around you. So, if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive image smartphone, take a closer look at the Motorola Razr 40.

90% Motorola razr 40 Review: What is the cheapest folding smartphone capable of?
Source: Root Nation Anglais EN→FR
As for competitors, there are not many, only the already mentioned Samsung Galaxy Flip 5 and Oppo Find N2 Flip. Both are more expensive – from ∼$770 to ∼$1060. Not much more expensive, of course, but is it worth overpaying? For starters, you can compare all three smartphones here. And in short, Samsung’s Flip looks the most interesting, as it has IPx8 water protection, a thinner body, a larger secondary screen, a better main display, more sophisticated software, the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, faster UFS 4.0 memory, as well as faster USB 3.2 and faster inductive charging with reverse charging support. The only problem is the weak 3700 mAh battery. And a more noticeable fold line. So, if you have the opportunity to overpay, Samsung looks like a more interesting option. But the Razr 40 is newer, and its price will continue to drop. As for OPPO’s model, the Find N2 Flip costs about ∼$1060, and at this price, it’s not that competitive.

80% Motorola Razr 40 (Razr 2023) review: Mid-range foldables start here
Source: Pocket Lint Anglais EN→FR
There are a couple of ways you can look at the Razr 40. One of those is just as an expensive mid-range phone, with a less-than-stellar pair of cameras and a processor that's not quite as good as the Snapdragon 8 series models. The other way to think of this is as an important moment in the evolution of foldable smartphones. It's the first time we've seen a brand new flexible smartphone land at such a competitive price point, and one that really sets a marker down for competitors to follow. Despite its middling cameras, it's still a great device to use. It's small and portable, features a great-looking set of vegan leather colours and finishes, plus has one of the biggest, brightest and most vibrant displays on any foldable. And I think those positives far outweigh any perceived negatives around the camera or processor.

A mid-range foldable phone is a great idea but the Motorola Razr 40 makes a few too many sacrifices to make it a viable alternative to some of the pricier, far better competitors. The battery life is great though.

70% Motorola Razr 40 Review – Stuck in the middle with you
Source: Amateur Photographer Anglais EN→FR
The Motorola Razr 40 makes a folding phone a more affordable option, compared to the higher prices of the Razr 40 Ultra, and Samsung’s folding phones. There are some benefits to photographers, as the phone can use used as it’s own stand, and you can use the main cameras for selfies, rather than the lower quality internal camera. However, in comparison to non-folding phones, there is a lack of third telephoto camera, and this means you really do have to love the idea of a folding phone to go for this, rather than a standard phone, as you are paying a premium for this phone, but not getting a premium camera setup. This means the Motorola Razr 40 is stuck in the awkward position of being expensive for a mid-range camera phone, and somewhat underwhelming when compared to flagship smartphones.

Motorola Razr (2023) review: A midrange foldable that isn't cheap enough
Source: Engadget Anglais
Motorola’s attempt at a mid-range foldable cuts too many corners. While it has a premium, bright 6.9-inch internal display, its tiny external display isn’t as useful (or as big) as rival flip-phones. Camera performance is also lacking, but battery life is a standout for this form-factor.

90% Motorola Razr 40 review
Source: Tech Advisor Anglais EN→FR
Motorola may have lost some of the Razr charm by going with a Galaxy Flip-esque design but it doesn’t matter much on what is otherwise a very successful folding phone. What was a luxury purchase in the smartphone world is now a normal option thanks to the Razr 40’s £799 asking price. That makes it cheaper than many regular flagships. And despite this price, the Razr 40 has some impressive specs including decent AMOLED displays, long lasting battery life and a solid software experience. There’s even wireless charging, albeit very slow. There are, of course, downsides to consider here when comparing to the Razr 40 Ultra and rivals. The Snapdragon 7 chip isn’t the fastest, there’s no proper waterproofing and the cameras aren’t overly impressive. However, all of this is acceptable to get a flip phone at a reasonable price, meaning the Razr 40 is currently the best folding phone for the masses.

71% Motorola Razr (2023) review: A midrange foldable that underwhelms
Source: Engadget Anglais EN→FR
Are foldables going to be the new smartphone normal? Doubtful. Motorola’s bid for a cheaper (if not that much cheaper) flip phone tries to broaden their appeal, but sadly misses the mark. Its external display simply lacks enough utility in 2023. And I’m not sure who is willing to spend this much money on a phone that's already two years behind the curve. However, Motorola has yet to announce pricing or a launch date in the US. If the Razr were to cost $800 or lower, which would be closer to a Galaxy S23 or iPhone 14, it could find an audience. But for most people intrigued by a foldable flip-phone, they would be better served hunting down a discounted Galaxy Z Flip 4.

80% Motorola Razr 40 review: makes the foldable flip mainstream
Source: Gadgetguy Anglais EN→FR
Having a phone with a big screen is great for the most part, until you need to fit it into a pocket alongside your keys, wireless earbuds case, and anything else you carry regularly. Where the Motorola Razr 40 shines is as an example of having your cake and eating it too. With its sleek foldable design, you get a large, vibrant display in the form of something that actually fits comfortably in your pair of jeans, chinos, etc. It’s not as powerful as other flip devices, like its premium Razr 40 Ultra sibling, and its cover display isn’t as useful as larger iterations. However, $999 at launch is a sweet spot for the features and convenience the base Razr 40 offers in an emerging form factor. For power users who need extra performance and a larger cover display, the Ultra is for you. Otherwise, the Motorola Razr 40 is a sleek foldable flip phone that fits into your life for less than $1,000.

80% I reviewed Motorola’s cheapest folding phone, and it’s brilliant
Source: Digital Trends Anglais EN→FR
I love the Motorola Razr 40. There’s very little fuss or pretentiousness to it, and it’s so much better for it. The compact flip design is its big feature, and Motorola has done the right thing by not overcomplicating everything else — and keeping the price down. This is a pick-up-and-use-every-day smartphone, with no need to learn dozens of features you’ll probably never use . And you also won’t be bothered by crushingly short battery life, or be upset by a rubbish camera. It’s reliable, good-looking, and fun. Using the Razr 40 for the last few weeks has been great, as it’s so convenient to carry around and use. On the negative side, I am frustrated by the decision to not make the cover screen show the time and notification alerts all the time, the wireless charging is a bit of a token effort, and the processor doesn’t seem to enjoy being pushed hard.

So all things considered the Motorola Razr 40 can stand its ground successfully against most competitors with the 2022 Galaxy Z Flip4 perhaps the only one to edge its value for money proposition. However odds are it two won't be easy to find in a couple of months as Samsung focuses on the Flip5 and if the Razr 40 manages to shave some more euros from its price as did its predecessor it will find itself in the comfortable position of being the cheapest-but-still-great clamshell foldable. After all the Motorola Razr 40 is a modern foldable with exquisite design that is comfortable to hold and operate, too. The latter bits are surprisingly rare in the segment with the Galaxy Flip4 and Oppo Find N2 Flip being properly slippery device.

90% Motorola Razr (2023) Review: Finally a Flip Foldable for Cheap
Source: Nextpit EN Anglais EN→FR
Motorola presented two foldables this year. Okay, nothing special you say, Samsung has been doing that for years. But Motorola offers two foldables with the same form factor—the clamshell design—from the Flip family. And Motorola is now competing with the South Korean company twice in this segment: once with the Razr+ (2023), with an extremely large and full-fledged outdoor display, and the Razr (2023) base model, which rather belongs to the inexpensive foldable category at just under 900 Euros (US pricing still pending). This is not only reflected in the 1.5-inch small external display, which primarily serves as a quick source of information but also in the upper mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Nevertheless, it is completely sufficient for all everyday tasks, as well as computationally intensive games.

Moto razr 40 Review: A Worthy Successor to the Razr V3
Source: Igeekphone Anglais EN→FR
The arrival of the Moto razr 40 has shown us a different side of the vertical folding machine. It not only improves the folding hinge, but also brings innovations at the functional level, such as cartoon photo assistants, turning on the camera, and live wallpapers of elf moments. After experiencing the function points, you can’t help but be amazed: it turns out that the secondary screen can still play like this! The hinge of the Moto razr 40 will not fall back after hovering every time. The whole operation is clean and neat, and the folding angle can reach more than 120 degrees. Using this feature, also enriches the shooting possibilities when using the rear camera Angle, taking pictures that can’t be captured by straight mobile phones.

What We REALLY Think About The Moto RAZR/RAZR+
Source: Pocketnow Anglais
Yes, after being absent for more than a year, the Moto RAZR is back, but with a far more logical approach, and in two new flavors for an added kick. See, now that the foldable novelty has worn off and flip phones have reached mainstream pricing, Motorola didn't just decide to catch up, but actually challenge every flip foldable we know in both pricing and features. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and I've got some thoughts after spending some time with them.

Motorola Razr (2023) hands-on review: first impressions with the new generation Razr!
Source: Phone Arena Anglais EN→FR
We are slightly confused by the Razr (2023) / Razr+ (2023) split. The one we are looking at here is obviously meant to be the more "budget" choice, but we can't say that €900 is exactly budget range. For that price, you are definitely taking a hit in specs and external display for usability. So, it's definitely a phone for people that really, really want a foldable. But then, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 also hovers around that price and seems to offer... a bit more value? Though, we can definitely see the Razr (2023) drawing in its own fans. That leathery finish is fantastic, and not everybody wants a super-fast processor. It will all hang on the camera performance and battery life, when it comes to it.

Today, Motorola announced not one but two new additions to its iconic phone line with the 2023 Razr and Razr+. Packing a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and a 3.5-inch exterior display – which Motorola says is the biggest on any foldable phone on sale right now – the Razr+ is the more premium while the standard Razr has the potential to be a great entry-level gadget for people new to foldables. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on a price or release date for the basic Razr, but with the Razr+ slated to go on sale on June 23rd for $1,000 we should know a lot more about that model real soon.

Hands-on: Motorola Razr and Razr+ finally realize the vision of foldable flip phones
Source: 9to5google Anglais EN→FR
That very much feels like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 and is also one of the reasons I personally am not a fan of most flip phone designs. But for some, as our Andrew Romero commented on last year, that’s actually a perk, and Motorola even mentioned this device is in part made for the “digital minimalist.” What’s really exciting about this device is just that it’s going to be cheaper. Motorola tells us that the Razr (2023) will be “meaningfully cheaper” than the Razr+. To me, that reads as at least $200 less, and even the possibility of buying a brand-new foldable for $799, should that be the actual price, is a huge step forward for this technology. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what Motorola considers “meaningful.”

Motorola Razr Plus and Razr (2023) hands-on: The Razr returns
Source: Android Authority Anglais EN→FR
While our time with the Motorola Razr Plus and Razr (2023) was brief, it was enough of a taste to know that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip finally has real competition in the US. Motorola’s massive external display brings more full-fledged features to the Razr than ever — and more complete app experiences than other clamshell devices can match. Yes, early rumors suggest that Samsung is headed for a larger external display with its Galaxy Z Flip 5, but for now, Motorola can bask in the glow of having the largest display on the market. So far, it’s shaping up to be the Summer of Motorola in a way the company hasn’t seen for years. The Razr Plus and Razr (2023) follow Motorola’s excellent traditional flagship, the Edge Plus (2023), and they feel good enough to make us ignore the fact that we had to wait several years between Razr launches.

Motorola Razr 40 Ultra/Razr+ hands-on review: pink to make the boys wink
Source: Stuff TV Anglais EN→FR
Motorola’s made some bold choices with the Razr 40 Ultra, taking its overall clamshell shape in a more Samsung and Oppo direction, while differentiating not with camera specs or extra power, but with style – and plenty of it. Between that big, attention-grabbing cover screen, the zingy Viva Magenta colour option, and improvements to the Razr’s build versus its 2022 predecessor, you could argue away some concerns over the camera. Costing $999/£1099, though, you’d also be justified in expecting an across-the-board great phone – so let’s see what Samsung drops as its Z Flip successor – in the meantime, the Viva Magenta Razr 40 Ultra is definitely the most standout, stylized flip phone we’ve tested to date.
