That was a while ago, though, so we've got our hands on a new model to see if the latest raft of updates maintains the high standard. A worthy upgrade that adds power, battery life and versatility - although the same old niggles remain.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThey don't make budget notebooks like they used to. Just a year or two ago, you'd have to put up with a poorly designed lump of plastic if you couldn't spend over a grand. Now, you can pick up a well-engineered, stylish machine such as this Samsung Q70. A combination of Intel's 2GHz T7300 Core 2 processor and 2GB of RAM means there's enough grunt here to keep the Q70 looking speedy for several years. It raced through our benchmarks, scoring 1.01 overall - 1% faster than our reference 3.2GHz Pentium D desktop PC. The Q70's even capable of some after-hours gaming: Nvidia's GeForce 8400M G graphics will struggle with modern games, scoring an average of 19fps in Call of Duty 2 at our low settings, but it can cope with older, less demanding titles. There's a large hard disk on offer, too. It's nominally 160GB and, even after Windows Vista Home Premium has had its wicked way, there's still 140GB of space - Samsung splits this across two 70GB partitions, so you could use one for programs and one for data.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe 13.3” Samsung Q70 is a new model to fill a gap in the Samsung product range. It is too large to be called an ultra-portable and, while it is reasonably light, it is not very thin. It is slightly larger than the popular Q35 and its successor, the Q45. The Q70 was not shown by Samsung at CeBIT. Was it still under development or were they deliberately keeping it secret to give the market a surprise? As well as increasing the display size, the notebook has acquired extra weight and thickness and at, 2.03kg (4.45lb) and a maximum 45mm (1.75”), it cannot be classed as either thin-and-light or ultraportable. The Samsung Q70 is a well built notebook but it is a little bulky. It is responsive with good processing power and a large, but quiet fan. A benefit of the thick chassis is that the external surfaces stay acceptably cool. If lightly loaded, it can only run for about 3 hours off its 6 cell battery. So where does the Q70 fit in the market?

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Samsung Q70 is an excellent laptop that will be equally well suited as a business or an entertainment laptop. It’ll blend beautifully into any corporate environment thanks to its glossy finish and nimble 2kg frame, while the fast speed and excellent screen will please gamers and multimedia users. We found the Samsung Q70 to be a better performer than the Samsung Q35 (read our Samsung Q35 review here), and the it showed up well in our WorldBench speed benchmark tests, hitting an excellent score of 78. The Samsung Q70's framerate score of 21fps (frames per second) in our games tests didn’t impress quite as much, although this is still a decent figure. The glossy screen is smaller than most, but the Samsung Q70 still displays images of a crisp quality. We found the viewing angles to be good and the widescreen capabilities worked well during video playback. Although the Samsung Q70's keyboard is small, it's comfortable to use. Its only downfall is the small spacebar. This, though, is understandable due to the Samsung Q70's compact size.

Commentaire
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G: La NVidia GeForce 8400M GT est compatible DirectX 10, elle détrône la GeForce G 7400 et c’est en fait une 8400M GT plus lente. Ses performances sont clairement au dessus de la 7400 on peut jouer à tout les jeux en baissant la résolution Elle est suffisante pour les joueurs occasionnels.
Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.

Intel Core 2 Duo:
C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.
T7500: Le Core 2 Duo T7500 est de la génération Merom Core 2 Duo avec 4Mo de cache de nvieau 2. C'est un CPU de milieu de gamme (en 2009) donc à égalité avec le P7550 ou le Turion II Ultra M640/M660.
