Ultrabooks are still imperfect machines, but the Portege Z830 really strives to be as less mediocre as possible. With a backlit keyboard, ultra slim body and impressive selection of ports, the Z830 is one of the best equipped ultrabooks out there. Sure, it doesn’t have the best hardware from the lot, but will still deliver a solid experience, while the battery life is nothing short of satisfying.

Although it has several unique features that are sorely missing in Ultrabooks from other manufacturers, the Z830 isn’t head and shoulders above its competition. No other manufacturer has managed to perfect the formula so far, but they all have selling points that make them more desirable than the Toshiba. If you're not beholden to Windows, the 13in MacBook Air, which is available with a similar specification to the Z830 at a similar price, is still our preferred ultra-portable laptop, but Ultrabooks are slowly catching up.

It’s noticeably lighter than other Ultrabooks and the Macbook Air, features a surprisingly good array of ports and a backlit keyboard, and doesn’t skimp out on the SSD the way the similarly-priced Acer Apsire S3 does. On the other hand, the performance of the Core i3 processor isn’t up to the level of its contemporaries, the display quality is mediocre, and there’s bit too much flex in the screen – an annoying slight on an otherwise rigid machine. This is certainly an easier laptop to recommend than the Acer Ultrabook (the other sub-$1000 option), but not quite as likeable as the Asus Zenbook UX31E or Lenovo IdeaPad U300s.

It has solid build quality, a decent backlit keyboard, a good touchpad, six hours of battery life, and the characteristic light weight (2.4 lbs) and thinness we’ve come to expect from Ultrabooks. Where the Z835 stumbles is performance; the included 128GB SSD is exceptionally slow. The Intel Core i3 processor is bottom of the barrel but should have plenty of oomph for general usage. At $899 the Z835 undercuts existing Ultrabooks by $100 or more and makes for a very attractive choice. It is an ideal on-the-go companion and a tempting alternative to the Apple MacBook Air.

So far it sounds like a miracle machine, so what’s not to love? The keyboard isn’t too pretty, with nearly-no-travel keys and uneven backlighting that comes off looking cheap. The trackpad is nice, but the buttons are tiny and hard to press, as they’re both stiff and slightly recessed into the chassis, making them difficult to reach. My biggest complaint, though, has to be against the Z835’s lack of stability. I had far more than my fair share of inexplicable problems simply installing apps and more getting them to run successfully. While all the crashes were eventually recoverable, I found I wasted a lot of time troubleshooting issues I really shouldn’t have had to deal with at all.

The Toshiba Portege Z830 is the best equipped and lightest Ultrabook currently on the market. It has more ports and you won't feel like you've given up expandability for extreme portability. It's insanely light at 2.48 lbs. and very thin. In short, it's a real pleasure to carry. The price was the only factor that put down a lot of people. At nearly 4.5k the Toshiba Portégé Z830 is a good AED 850 more expensive than the Acer Aspire S3. That said, it’s still AED 1,150 cheaper than its nearest rival, the unibody and equally slim MacBook Pro 13 which has the same specs inside. So for those who want a true ultrabook experience, the Toshiba Portégé Z830 is a definite buy, despite the slightly high price tag.

Despite some annoyances, I really enjoyed my time testing the Toshiba Portégé Z830. It is a good all-rounder, but so very slim and light, and it runs on batteries for the best part of a day. Surely these three features alone deserve to make it a great success. It’s not a style icon by any stretch of the imagination, but this Ultrabook looks businesslike in an understated way and genuinely feels like a quality piece of kit. It is jolly expensive, though.

The Toshiba Portégé Z830 is remarkably similar to the Toshiba Satellite Z830. However, it packs less memory and has a slower processor than its sibling, resulting in slower performance but 30 mins extra battery life. The only things it offers to justify the extra cost are software-based security features which may be useful to business users.

Toshiba:
Toshiba Corporation est un conglomérat ou groupe technologique japonais. La société a été créée en 1939 et en 1978, Toshiba est devenue le nom officiel de la société. Les produits et services de l'entreprise comprennent des systèmes d'infrastructure électrique, industrielle et sociale, des ascenseurs et des escaliers mécaniques, des composants électroniques, des semi-conducteurs, des disques durs, des imprimantes, des batteries, l'éclairage, la logistique et les technologies de l'information. Toshiba était l'un des plus grands fabricants d'ordinateurs personnels, d'électronique grand public, d'appareils électroménagers et d'équipements médicaux.
Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.
Intel HD Graphics 3000:
3 GPUs à venir (1er Trimestre 2011) intégrés aux CPU Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). Les 3000 / 200 correspondent à la puce GT2 avec 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): Carte graphique intégrée aux processeurs de la gamme Sandy Bridge Pentium et Celeron. Comma la version de bureau de la HD Graphics 2000 mais loin de la version Arrandale.

2557M: Processeur économique en énergie ULV cadencé entre 1.7 et 2.7 GHz avec Turbo Boost. Possède le GPU intégré HD 3000 cadencé à 350 / 1200 MHz avec un contrôleur mémoire DDR3-1333.
2467M: Processeur économique en énergie ULV cadencé entre 1.6 et 2.3 GHz avec Turbo Boost. Possède le GPU intégré HD 3000 cadencé à 350 / 1200 MHz avec un contrôleur mémoire DDR3-1333.
Intel Core i3:
2367M: Processeur économique ULV cadencé à 1.4 GHz sans Turbo boost. Possède une GPU HD 3000 cadencé entre 350 et 1000 MHz et avec le contrôleur mémoire DDR3-1333.
Intel Core i7:
2677M: Processeur à économie d'énergie ULV cadencé entre 1.8 et 2.9 GHz grâce à Turbo Boost. Possède le GPU intégré HD 3000 cadencé à 350 / 1200 MHz avec un contrôleur mémoire DDR3-1333.

Les tablettes de grandes dimensions, les petits ultraportables, les ultrabooks et les convertibles de 10 à 11 pouces affichent habituellement ce poids sur la balance.
1.2 kg:
79.06%: La note n'est pas convaincante. On doit considérer qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup d'ordinateurs portables qui reçoivent une note en dessous de 60%. Ce portable est en dessous de la moyenne, Nous ne conseillons pas vraiment son achat.
