The Aspire Vero aims to be a “green-pioneer laptop” for the eco-conscious. It delivers on that promise with a planet protecting physical form and a better ease in which to upgrade for longevity over its compatriots. But in its belly, it also packs plenty of punch not only for the rigours of the day job, but also play time with processor-heavy programmes like the latest computer games.

If you’re determined to make more eco-conscious buying decisions, the Acer Aspire Vero is the best choice of laptop for you, even though it could go a lot further in its quest to be more sustainable. It’d be great to see a much higher percentage of post-consumer recycled plastic used when it comes to the chassis, bezels and keycaps. But in saying that, it’s also nice to know that this laptop is built in a way that means you’ll be able to repair and recycle it when the time comes. Outside of that, this laptop is pretty average across the board, there's nothing about it that will make you go 'wow'. That’s fine though, not everyone needs a productivity powerhouse with a stellar screen, and the Acer Aspire Vero will be good enough for most day-to-day tasks. Just don’t buy this if you’re a PC gamer or video editor!

The Aspire Vero, although not a high-end laptop, shows that it is possible to make a fairly capable mid-range notebook whilst being socially responsible but without losing out style and build quality. Priced at Rs 57,999, the Aspire Vero is a simple notebook that covers the basics. I see the Vero as a fantastic laptop held back by a few issues, most of which are traditionally associated with most mid-range Windows notebooks.

There’s hardly anything to choose between the Acer and its rivals at the checkout, but in other departments, it’s easier to pick the notebooks apart. The Acer Aspire Vero impresses with its environmental credentials, and it has reasonable battery life, good everyday performance and solid connectivity. It’s good enough to handle mainstream computing. Negatively, though, the Vero is thicker and heavier than rivals, its keyboard feels hollow, the display disappoints, and the components aren’t good enough for tough workloads. Its looks will divide opinion, and this certainly isn’t the only environmentally conscious laptop on the shelves. The price makes it a viable laptop if you want an everyday machine with an environmental focus. But if you want great performance, a vibrant display or a slim, light design, look elsewhere.
