EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Alienware M14x R2 isn’t as powerful as its elder siblings, the M17x and the M18x, but given its small and relatively lightweight chassis, it’s a great machine for truly portable gaming on the go. Ideal for students or people who need to move their gaming machine constantly on a daily basis. It may not have the impulse buy appeal of the M11x, but as a whole system keeping performance and size in check, it’s one of the best 14-inch gaming laptops around.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe Alienware M14x R2 is in a difficult place right now, if not necessarily a bad one. With the laptop market very much different now than it was even a year ago, it can in some ways seem anachronistic—but it remains a system well worth considering for its intended function of serious gaming. Its chief downside, however, is that its specific hardware is not as future-proofed as would be ideal. Being able to play DX9 games at top frame rates is nice, but superior DX11 skills are important for what comes down the pike tomorrow, and the Eurocom Monster 1.0 is slightly better equipped in that department. For that reason, that system retains its Editors' Choice status, if only by a hair. If you're happy playing games that use the older technology, or if your non-play life requires a bit of productivity on the side, the Alienware M14x R2 is a terrific option.

EN→FR Archive.org versionDon't let the Alienware M14x's benchmark specs mislead you--WorldBench 7 puts a lot of weight on small, speedy SSDs, which this laptop doesn't have. Nevertheless, the M14x outperforms any Ultrabook we've seen in screen and graphic quality.

EN→FR Archive.org versionOur review unit rang up to about $1,600 including upgrades. Some of them are unnecessary for great gaming performance, however, such as the RAM and the Killer Wireless-N solution. But dumping them saves little money; so expect to spend about $1,500 on a reasonably equipped rig. This price puts the M14x in an awkward position.
