Le Dell XPS 13 s'adresse à ceux qui cherchent un ordinateur au design quasi irréprochable et un écran de haut vol à bordures fines. Difficile de trouver un PC mieux fini à ce prix. Il n'offre cela dit pas les meilleures performances, notamment dans la version Core i5 que nous avons testée, mais elles suffiront à la plupart des utilisateurs. Malheureusement, l'autonomie s'est avérée décevante et entache le tableau général.

Sans défaut rédhibitoire, le Dell XPS 13 2022 est une bonne machine ultraportable qui déroule une partition maîtrisée et taillée au cordeau pour satisfaire vos besoins les plus courants, que ce soit pour de la bureautique avancée ou un peu d’édition photo/vidéo. Néanmoins, quand, comme Dell, on joue la carte de la continuité et de la mise à niveau annuelle, on s’expose à se faire coiffer au poteau par des concurrents inattendus ou plus brillants. C’est le cas du Zenbook S 13 OLED, d’Asus, qui n’a non seulement rien à envier au XPS 13, mais lui en remontre un peu. Enfin, pour parler rapidement de son meilleur ennemi, le MacBook Air M2 avec son nouveau design est certes un peu plus cher - mais il lui est supérieur en tout. Même le M1, sorti en 2020, lui tient toujours la dragée haute. Bref, le XPS 13 est un bon ultraportable, sans trop d’imagination ou de prise de risque, qui vous satisfera sans ébouriffer votre quotidien.

Bon partout mais excellent nulle part, le nouveau Dell XPS 13 « Classique » aurait pu devenir une alternative probante et moins coûteuse au XPS 13 Plus (excellent, mais trop onéreux et doté d’innovations pas toujours bien maîtrisées). Il aurait également pu devenir un rival de choix aux derniers Apple MacBook Air, LG Gram 14 et autres Asus ZenBook S13 OLED. Il s’agit à la place d’un PC ultraportable convaincant, mais qui ne restera pas bien longtemps dans les mémoires. Ses performances correctes, mais limitées, en font une machine à écrire de luxe malheureusement incapable de viser des activités plus demandeuses en puissance que du multimédia léger ou de la bureautique. Cette approche un peu trop minimaliste s’étend aussi à la connectique particulièrement réduite de l’appareil, et à l’autonomie parcimonieuse de ce nouveau XPS. Sans jamais décevoir complètement, Dell assure en fait le service minimum sur bien des points, préférant se consacrer cette année à une refonte esthétique assez bienvenue… mais qui aura du mal à motiver un achat à elle seule.

Le Dell XPS 13 9315 est très clairement une petite mise à jour pour la gamme, qui vient surtout s'équiper de la 12e génération d'Intel. A ce titre, elle n'a pas grand-chose d'existant à offrir, mais reste toujours à l'excellent niveau de fabrication de la marque dont on ne peut se lasser. Reste cependant qu'un bon produit ne fait pas un bon rapport qualité/prix. S'il n'a pas grand défaut, le Dell XPS 13 souffre de la comparaison avec ses rivaux. Un Intel U plutôt qu'un Intel P, une dalle IPS LCD 60Hz sRGB au lieu d'une dalle OLED 90Hz couvrant le DCI-P3, une bonne autonomie qui ne pousse pas au-delà de son habitude... Si vous rêviez depuis longtemps d'avoir un Dell XPS 13, prenez donc ce dernier modèle qui sera exactement ce que vous attendez. Mais si vous cherchez à faire la meilleure affaire... Ce n'est pas exactement l'ordinateur qu'il vous faut.

This unit, however, appears to be sold out on Dell’s website currently. What you can buy is a Core i7-1250U, which is currently $1,199 for a 16GB / 512GB / touchscreen model. A similarly configured M2 MacBook Air is currently selling for $1,699, which makes Dell’s pricing attractive — though the performance benefits Apple delivers for that extra price aren’t insignificant, as we’ll soon discuss. The U-series XPS is a significant step down from the P-series XPS 13 Plus (which was already losing badly to the MacBook) when it comes to the raw numbers. Benchmark scores were lower almost across the board. Especially stark was the 30-minute loop of Cinebench, where the XPS 13 got close to 50 percent of the Plus’s score. It’s clear that the XPS 13’s performance changed significantly after the first 10-minute run.

The new Dell XPS 13 Plus is a fantastic-looking and wonderful laptop, and the Dell XPS 13 9315 is your average joe in comparison. But I think the average buyer will be better served with this laptop over the more expensive version. It has all the average user needs at a more agreeable price. Most of my cons are the same cons the 13 Plus had. It’s not a perfect laptop; what laptop is? But it’s the one most people, if considering 13″ laptops, should look at.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Dell XPS 13. For 2022, Dell split the XPS 13 into two distinctly different models: the more affordable XPS 13 and the expensive XPS 13 Plus. I feared the base XPS 13 would become a shadow of its former self, but the opposite is true. The base XPS 13 better represents the original mission of the laptop; it’s a premium ultraportable with excellent battery life, a durable design, and a great user experience. Performance is modest but remains fine for day-to-day use and light creative workloads. The result is a laptop that’s great for travel yet enjoyable to use for hours on end. There are a few flaws to note. The lack of physical connectivity, including an absent headphone jack, will turn off those who prefer wired peripherals. The laptop’s webcam, microphone, and display are underwhelming; some competitors in this space offer a 1080p webcam, OLED display, or both. These problems are excused by Dell’s modest pricing, however. It undercuts most premium Windows alternatives, and often by a couple hundred dollars.

The base XPS 13 better represents the original mission of the laptop; it’s a premium ultraportable with excellent battery life, a durable design, and a great user experience. Performance is modest but remains fine for day-to-day use and light creative workloads. The result is a laptop that’s great for travel yet enjoyable to use for hours on end. There are a few flaws to note. The lack of physical connectivity, including an absent headphone jack, will turn off those who prefer wired peripherals. The laptop’s webcam, microphone, and display are underwhelming; some competitors in this space offer a 1080p webcam, OLED display, or both. These problems are excused by Dell’s modest pricing, however. It undercuts most premium Windows alternatives, and often by a couple hundred dollars.

Rubbing salt in the wound, the folio isn’t only flimsy; it also has a steep learning curve if you’re used to the traditional laptop design.

As a complete set, the Dell XPS 13 9315 2-in-1 is kinda weird. By default, Dell has enabled the feature whereby you can just open the laptop lid and it’ll automatically turn on. In this case, instead of a laptop lid, you open the folio case. Unfortunately for me, the flap opened itself a little bit in my bag and the device turned on by itself in my bag. With that said, you can disable this feature in the BIOS. I ended up not disabling it since I can use Windows Hello to instantly unlock the device when it boots up. Very convenient. The XPS Stylus is also very poorly attached to the tablet, and a slight bump can cause the entire pen to drop. I don’t even want to think about putting it in my bag as I know it’ll end up at some unknown crevice. The general performance of doing something on this tablet – well, I’ll just say that it’s great for web browsing, Spotify, and Netflix – but does require some patience if we’re going to do something more intensive. Launching Dell’s own utilities also takes some time, by the way.

Le Dell XPS 13 2-en-1 est un ordinateur-tablette qui essaye de concurrencer la Microsoft Surface. L’appareil est très portable, propose une bonne qualité de fabrication et des performances correctes si l’on prend tout en compte. Cependant, certains détails, comme l’autonomie et la chauffe, laissent à désirer. Le prix, en soi, est correct. La configuration que j’ai pu tester est proposée aux alentours des 1600€, avec le folio. Ceci étant dit, personnellement, je me tournerai plutôt vers la Surface Pro 9 sous ARM, vendue aux alentours des 2000 si l’on comprend le folio.

Le Dell XPS 13 2-en-1 est une très belle tablette sous Windows, mais pas un ultrabook convaincant. L'absence de refroidissement actif fait que les performances de sa puce sont divisées de moitié, quand sa protection intégrant le clavier semble faire un pas en arrière par rapport à l'évolution de la catégorie 2-en-1. Mais sorti de ça, un sublime écran et sa finition exemplaire le rendent très séduisant. À la fin de ce test, il ne nous reste qu'une impression en tête : ce PC était fait pour une puce ARM. Sans quoi, les arguments en sa faveur n'arrivent pas à contrebalancer ses importants défauts.

Décevante sur plusieurs points et pas toujours très engageante, cette nouvelle formule du XPS 13 2-en-1 peine à convaincre pleinement… mais sans jamais déplaire totalement non plus. Dell nous livre ici un produit perfectible à bien des égard, qui se démarque trop peu et qui soutient trop rarement la comparaison face à sa principale rivale : l’éminente Surface Pro 9 de Microsoft. Au final, Dell mise sur un placement tarifaire un peu plus agressif que chez la concurrence (son XPS 13 2-en-1 « de base » dispose de plus de RAM et de stockage par défaut que la Surface Pro), mais aussi sur la bonne image véhiculée par sa gamme XPS pour tenter de séduire. Nous aurions de notre côté aimé un appareil plus ambitieux, notamment sur le plan des performances ou de l’autonomie, et plus abouti pour ce qui est de la conception du clavier détachable. Difficile néanmoins de ne pas saluer l’approche du constructeur texan, qui fait le pari audacieux de changer totalement d’approche avec ce XPS 13 2-en-1 2022, devenu tablette en lieu et place de « simple » laptop réversible. Une hardiesse plutôt bienvenue, même si elle conduit au bout du compte à un produit imparfait. Trop pour inquiéter pour de vrai Microsoft et son indéboulonnable Surface Pro, partiellement modernisée l’année dernière qui plus est.

Keep in mind, the 2-in-1 design often demands compromises in terms of price, weight and performance compared to a traditional laptop, or even a 2-in-1 with a keyboard that swivels back rather than detaches. Also, consider whether an Apple or Android tablet might better suit your requirements than a Windows device (although it’s possible to run Android apps on Windows 11). If you’re a keyboard warrior who would rarely use the device in tablet mode, then a 2-in-1 is probably not for you but it’s worth checking out the rest of the Dell XPS range.

It’s a mid-market option in terms of price, then, and it’s pretty ordinary in other departments too. The processor can run everyday office and creative workloads but nothing tougher, and the display is a bright, bold touchscreen without the colour breadth for top-end design situations. The battery barely lasts all day. Elsewhere, the XPS has a good keyboard but it’s heavier, thicker and arguably less versatile than rivals, and the screen is robust and well-equipped with cameras – but it barely has any ports. It’s a tricky sell. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is a good choice if you want an everyday detachable device rather than a 360-hinge hybrid. But no matter your intentions for a new convertible or laptop, you’ll probably find a better option elsewhere.

The two are so similar, though, that I expect they will have the same problem: they are great tablets but could be better laptops.
