Présenté dans un premier temps en Chine aux côtés des P60 et P60 Art, le P60 Pro a débarqué quelques semaines plus tard sur le marché européen et par la même occasion sur le marché français. Le fleuron de Huawei compte une fois de plus sur sa fiche technique premium pour compenser notamment l'absence des services Google.

Un smartphone, le P60 Pro ? Plutôt un appareil photo sachant aussi téléphoner, si l'on s'en tient à la qualité des images produites. Huawei a su effectuer des choix technologiques audacieux afin de permettre la réalisation de photos d'excellente tenue quelles que soient les conditions d'éclairage. On apprécie également le soin apporté au design (notamment à la version Rococo Pearl), l'autonomie honorable et bien entendu un écran irréprochable. Dommage qu'il soit privé de 5G et des services Google : il aurait alors cassé la baraque sans aucun doute, surtout s'il était proposé à un prix plus doux.

Pour conclure sur les qualités et les défauts du Huawei P60 Pro, nous devons faire un peu le même constat que lorsque nous avons testé le Mate 50 Pro de la marque. L’appareil profite d’un design exceptionnel, ce qui en fait, selon nous, le plus beau mobile actuellement disponible. Il offre également un écran de très haute qualité, tout à fait satisfaisant dans ses capacités même si on peut attendre une compatibilité avec les contenus HDR dynamiques présents chez la concurrence, ici absent. L’autonomie ainsi que les performances sont tout à fait à la hauteur du rang du smartphone et pleinement satisfaisants. Il est étanche, mais son lecteur d’empreinte digitale est trop bas, selon nous.

Bien entendu, notre jugement, que nous avons pu nous faire uniquement à partir des appareils de test exposés lors de l'événement de lancement à Munich, n'est qu'une première impression que nous compléterons après notre test complet. Le Huawei P60 Pro porte le même fardeau que celui que les États-Unis imposent depuis 2019 à tous les smartphones de l'entreprise avec des sanctions qui entraînent l'absence de 5G et ses services Google. Il y aurait une poignée de personnes qui refusent délibérément de se passer de Google et de ses services. Celles-ci devraient peut-être taper dans leurs mains à la vue du Huawei P60 Pro et de la confiance correspondante du fabricant chinois.

Le Huawei P60 Pro est incontestablement une réussite. Cette réussite qui se nuance toutefois de petits couacs, que Huawei nous a expliqués certes, mais qui donnent le ton sur l’accélération nécessaire dans l’indépendance de la marque. Le Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 qui suffit amplement pour tout ce que l’on peut faire avec un smartphone, certes, mais qui sort à l’heure où tous les autres ont un Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. L’absence de 5G, qui est bloquée par les USA, nous indiquent que Huawei devrait faire ses propres modules 5G. Enfin, le PlayStore toujours aux abonnés absent par défaut. S’il est possible en moins de 2 minutes, de l’installer et de profiter des services Google avec, comme YouTube, Gmail, Drive, … L’absence d’installation par défaut dans le smartphone est problématique pour certains utilisateurs qui ne sont pas le plus à l’aise du monde avec leur appareil.

Notez que l’interface de l’application a changé. Certaines options sont désormais disponibles en bas de l’écran alors que d’autres sont toujours présentes dans la partie supérieure de l’interface. Cela permet d’accéder plus rapidement aux différentes fonctions. L’application de reconnaissance des objets est immédiatement disponible. La barre de zoom a également changé d’apparence pour se présenter sous une forme graphique plus proche de celle des appareils photo numériques classiques avec un effet de profondeur. Les premières photos que nous avons pu réaliser avec le P60 Pro sont magnifiques et profitent d’un excellent piqué avec un très haut niveau de détails. En outre, on peut également bénéficier d’une captation assez extraordinaire de la luminosité ambiante, permettant ainsi d’obtenir des clichés très clairs, même dans des conditions particulièrement difficiles. Nos tests plus poussés nous en dirons plus mais nous sommes déjà quasiment convaincu par les qualités photo du P60 Pro. L’écran est très intéressant aussi permettant d’apprécier les belles photos. Nous verrons de quoi il est capable exactement au cours d’un test complet.

Les relations houleuses entre le gouvernement américain et le constructeur chinois n’aident pas a conseiller un smartphone Huawei au bout du compte. En effet, comme ce fut le cas avec ses prédécesseurs, il est toujours difficile de se prononcer sur le smartphone de Huawei. Et c’est bien dommage parce qu’honnêtement, le Huawei P60 Pro a tout pour plaire, des performances et une autonomie au rendez-vous mais surtout un bloc photo des plus convaincants. Même le design tout en finesse répond présent. Si on avait des doutes avant le test, l’arrivée des machines virtuelles Google a quelque peu changé la donne en permettant une utilisation presque normale du Huawei P60 Pro. On dit normale parce qu’il y aura toujours des interrogations sur les prochaines mises à jour ou les réactions dans le futur de la part de Google vis-à-vis de ces nouvelles alternatives pour utiliser ses services. Dans tous les cas, cela plusieurs semaines qu’on utilise intensément le P60 Pro et ce, sans sentir aucune limitations au quotidien et ça, c’est plutôt bon signe. Il faut juste rappeler que chaque utilisateur a un usage unique de son smartphone.

Le P60 Pro est un très bon vaisseau amiral qui permet à Huawei de montrer qu'il est encore présent sur le marché, moyennant quelques concessions évidentes. Si nous sommes prêts à les faire, alors ce smartphone apportera entière satisfaction grâce à un volet photo soigné et polyvalent, un écran toujours aussi excellent et une autonomie en forte hausse. Le choix d'une esthétique marquante pourrait aussi faire pencher la balance au moment de la décision d'achat. Reste la question du positionnement tarifaire, qui tutoie l'ultra premium pour un service global qui ne l'est pas tout autant.

The Huawei P60 Pro’s charging experience for both wired and wireless charging was very good. The wired charger took only 47 minutes to replenish the battery, and a 5-minute quick charge provided an excellent 8 hours and 12 minutes of autonomy on average. The wireless 50W charger refilled the battery in slightly more than 1 hour and 15 minutes, which was among the best wireless times we have measured. The wired charge efficiency was below average with high residual consumption of charger when the device was fully charged and still plugged in. However, the wireless charge efficiency was better than average. The discharge currents were low when gaming and scrolling on social apps, but high when using the camera, and average for other usages, meaning that the device is not perfectly optimized.

As a playback device, the Huawei performed best when listening to music but also did well in our gaming and movie-watching use cases. Recording quality was best with the front camera, with the main camera and memo apps results were slightly lower. Tonal balance in playback was satisfying, and dynamics performance was very good in playback and recording. Recordings at high sound pressure levels, for example electronic music concerts, were generally free of excessive distortion and pumping. However, the P60 Pro also showed some obvious flaws that could have been easily fixed with better tuning, such as bass distortion in playback, and inconsistent treble in recordings.

Unboxing the Huawei P60 Pro, with a 24 hour camera test including the remarkable telephoto zoom and night photography. The Huawei P60 Pro boasts one of the best camera setups of any smartphone in 2023, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - although as usual there's no Google services. If you can live without that, you'll struggle to find better hardware anywhere else. Photography is as simple as point and shoot at any time of day. This flagship phone can capture great looking pics even in strong HDR situations and in near darkness. Likewise, the telephoto zoom is great for low light night photos. Meanwhile pro photographers can play around with a ten-step variable aperture on the Huawei P60 Pro, to get some tasty bokeh or a crisp night snap. Sadly this phone offers older Snapdragon tech and there's no 5G action, while you won't find the Google Play Store on here. So tracking down apps is trickier than with regular Android phones. Still, the display is stunning, those stereo speakers are beefy and the Huawei P60 Pro has great battery life.

It’s a great looking flagship phone with a quality screen and wonderfully versatile set of cameras, which take clean, colourful and detailed photos in all lighting conditions. The variable aperture fills each frame with dreamy depth blur – when you want it – and the telephoto lens’ macro abilities are top notch. Low light performance is also uncanny, if best suited to those that prefer their pics artificially illuminated over dark and dingy. Add in all-day battery life and zippy performance, and the Huawei P60 Pro has plenty to like. The lack of Google support does hobble things on the software front, though. Rivals don’t have that disadvantage, and while they might not have lenses that are as lustworthy, they make up for it with larger sensors or higher pixel counts.

First Impressions: Huawei P60 Pro

Some of the zoom and macro skills of the Huawei P60 Pro’s camera are simply stunning. The colours, the detail even when you’re pushing in 10x and the consistency of the image whether you’re shooting ultra wide or telephoto have absolutely blown me away during my first days with the phone. The camera hardware isn’t quite as impressive on paper as the Xiaomi 13 Ultra or Oppo Find X6 Pro, but the results are some of the very best I have ever from a camera phone. Plus, the far smaller camera housing isn’t anywhere near as in your face as those two competing phones. Camera aside, the P60 Pro has impressed me elsewhere too. The screen has just the right amount of curvature, while the pearly finish on the back of my review sample is soft and comfortable to hold – if a little opulent for my general tastes. But, of course, any Huawei phone comes with caveats.

The design is slick, the display is gorgeous and the hardware is decent – albeit not the best on the market right now. If anything is going to lure you away from the Samsungs and the Googles of the world, it’s going to be the camera array, which Huawei has made clear is the main focus. While the lenses here are certainly promising, I’m just not convinced that they’re worth such a high price tag, especially when you can get the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra for around the same money or the Google Pixel 7 Pro for significantly less, and get 5G and Google apps to boot.

The Huawei P60 Pro has a lot of great things going for it. The display is great, battery life is good in our experience, and quick to charge, and the camera system is superb, delivering excellent results not only in good lighting conditions, but low light - and very low light - too. We don't love the Rococo Pearl finish, though it is certainly different, and the camera housing on the rear is in an awkward position for us, but these are both subjective, as there are no doubt some who will adore that pearly look. Plus, if the Huawei P60 Pro offered the Google Play Store and the access to the apps that come with that, we'd hands down recommend this device as a fantastic flagship smartphone with an excellent camera.

Qualcomm Adreno 730:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm affirme qu'elle est 30 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 660 du SoC Snapdragon 888. Pour Android, elle devrait être l'une des cartes graphiques les plus rapides fin 2021.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8+ Gen 1:

SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones, introduit fin 2021 et fabriqué en 4 nm chez TSMC. Il intègre un "Prime Core" basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X2 cadencée jusqu'à 3,2 GHz. Trois autres cœurs de performance sont basés sur l'A710 mais cadencés jusqu'à 2,5 GHz. En outre, quatre cœurs d'économie d'énergie sont intégrés, basés sur l'architecture ARM Cortex-A510 et cadencés jusqu'à 1,8 GHz. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 6e, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5 jusqu'à 3 200 MHz. La 5G est désormais incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X65. Par rapport à la version non plus, le 8+ Gen 1 offre un Prime Core cadencé à 200 MHz de plus et un GPU cadencé à 10% de plus. De plus, elle est désormais produite par TSMC et non plus par Samsung.

6.67": Seuls quelques smartphones possèdent une telle diagonale d’écran. 

Un écran de plus grandes dimensions permettent des résolutions plus élevées, les détails comme la finesse des lettres seront meilleurs. Néanmoins, un écran de plus petite taille est synonyme de consommation énergétique moindre et souvent d’un terminal plus compact, plus léger et plus abordable.
