Le Nothing Phone (2) est un très bon téléphone qui vaut son prix. Il n'y a aucun doute là-dessus. La nouvelle puce permet de le propulser un cran au-dessus et tout le travail sur le design a payé. On a un smartphone puissant, agréable et bien fini entre les mains. Nothing OS 2.0 est une interface très plaisante à utiliser également, avec un petit twist intéressant sur l'utilisation des widgets et de l'écran d'accueil. Le Glyph, qui s'apparente à un gimmick parfois un peu fatiguant, a au moins le mérite maintenant d'ouvrir la voie à de nouveaux usages. Les petites faiblesses sont à trouver en photo, où un téléobjectif n'aurait pas fait de mal et où il y a encore un peu de travail avant de concurrencer un Pixel 7, vendu légèrement moins cher. L'autonomie n'est pas encore monstrueuse non plus, même si elle assure une journée d'usage sans trembler. Un chargeur dans la boîte aurait été le bienvenu.

Comme son prédécesseur, le Nothing Phone (2) est un très bon smartphone qui a le mérite de proposer quelque chose de différent, aussi bien en matière de design que d'interface. Avec cette deuxième version, la marque britannique parvient à améliorer la formule, mais au prix d'un tarif en hausse de 210 € qui impacte son rapport qualité/prix. À 679 euros, le Nothing Phone (2) boxe dans une nouvelle catégorie ou de sérieux concurrents évoluent comme le Google Pixel 7 et le Galaxy S23. Deux adversaires qui excellent en photo, point sur lequel le nouveau téléphone de Nothing s'améliore, sans jamais attendre le niveau de ses rivaux. Si vous cherchez un téléphone équilibré qui sort du lot et propose une expérience différente, le Nothing Phone (2) est clairement une option à considérer.

Une montée en gamme convaincante avec de meilleures prestations, un module photo plus efficace, une autonomie qui progresse et une conception peaufinée. On peut toutefois regretter que la hausse de prix atteigne quand même 210 € par rapport à son prédécesseur. Il ne s’adresse donc plus vraiment à la même tranche d’utilisateurs et vient se positionner juste en dessous des smartphones premiums de la concurrence.

Le Nothing Phone (2) est-il un vrai flagship Android? Presque, mais pas tout à fait selon moi. Je trouve qu'il est encore un cran en deçà d'un Samsung Galaxy S23, d'un iPhone 14 ou d'un Xiaomi 13. Certes, ces modèles étaient plus chers que le Nothing Phone (2) à leur lancement. Mais ils ont depuis baissé de prix et sont effectivement les concurrents directs du presque-flagship Nothing. Impossible néanmoins de nier la très nette montée en gamme par rapport au Nothing Phone (1) de l'an dernier. Nothing n'existe que depuis trois ans, il faut le rappeler. Le design est plus mature, l'écran est très propre, l'interface Glyphe est un peu moins gimmick, les performances sont tout à fait cohérentes et Nothing OS 2.0 est en passe de devenir ma surcouche Android préférée. Nothing a cependant encore du boulot sur la qualité photo. Il faut un téléobjectif sur un smartphone haut de gamme en 2023.

Si le Phone (2) n’est pas encore le smartphone parfait, il apporte ce vent de fraîcheur qui manque terriblement sur un marché des smartphones bien terne. Avec le Phone (2), Nothing corrige presque tous les défauts de la première génération. Nothing revient très fort avec son haut de gamme, le Phone (2). Après un premier essai réussi qui a permis d'établir les bases solides de la marque, ce nouveau modèle Premium va encore plus loin pour le plaisir de celles et ceux qui veulent changer leur rapport aux smartphones, reprendre le contrôle, passer moins de temps devant leur écran. Beau avec sa composition en matériaux nobles, puissant grâce à sa puce Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, et doté d'une excellente autonomie (et d'une recharge rapide), le Nothing Phone (2) a aussi l'avantage de proposer une expérience singulièrement différente via l'interface Glyph qui orne son dos incurvé. Celle-ci ne sert plus exclusivement de panneau de notification, mais propose des fonctionnalités d'organisation de son temps (Pomodoro) ou de suivi (Uber). En définitive, le Phone (2) et son interface Nothing OS 2.0 offrent une expérience particulière qui, une fois que l'on y a goûté, devient rapidement indispensable.

Avec le Phone (2), Nothing réussit à proposer quelque chose de fondamentalement différent sur un marché où tous les smartphones ont tendance à se ressembler. Malgré un design relativement similaire à celui de son prédécesseur, le Nothing Phone (2) entend pourtant s’en démarquer. La firme a choisi d’améliorer une grande partie de la fiche technique en sélectionnant des composants davantage haut de gamme. Le mobile profite ainsi d’un excellent écran Amoled, d’une puce (certes bridée) efficace et d’un double capteur photo convaincant dans la majorité des usages. Last but not least, le Phone (2) se révèle bien plus endurant. Cette montée en gamme a toutefois une réelle incidence sur le prix. Si ce dernier est justifié, il ne permet plus à la marque de se positionner en tant qu’outsider du milieu de gamme. Face à des poids lourds souvent remisés, ce très bon terminal se frotte à une concurrence féroce, mais dispose de vrais atouts pour se défendre.

La chose qui nous a le plus surpris à la fin de ce test, c’était qu’on avait le sourire aux lèvres. En soi et techniquement parlant, le Nothing Phone (2) ne révolutionne pas le monde des smartphones. Il est performant, endurant, bon en photo et propose un intéressant rapport qualité-prix. Sa montée en gamme est justifiée et Nothing a, encore une fois, prouvé que les bons choix ont été faits. Et donc, encore une fois, ce qui marque le plus au final, c’est son design qui est clairement différenciant et si l’interface Glyph reste un gadget au quotidien, on ne peut s’empêcher d’apprécier son intégration. Mais ce n’est pas tout ! Cette année, Nothing nous livre une surcouche particulièrement aboutie et qui donne l’impression d’avoir un OS en plus d’iOS et Android. Le duo en plus avec les Ear (2) permet d’entrevoir un début d’écosystème et ça, on aime.

Et Nothing OS 2.0 est en passe de devenir l'une de mes interfaces Android préférées. Mais, je trouve aussi que le fabricant est un peu trop resté sur ses acquis en termes de design et de hardware photo. Le Nothing Phone (2) est plus de 200 euros plus cher que le Nothing Phone (1). Il ne peut pas se permettre d'être une mise à jour incrémentale. Dans mon test complet, je vous dirai si le nouveau modèle vaut vraiment le coup ou non.

OK, so the Nothing Phone (2a) is not a bad phone, especially for $350. It carries a very distinctive style and it does have that Nothing DNA — if you've been thinking about dabbling with it and seeing what Pei's team is up to, it's a good entry point. Nothing Phone (2) offers several variants, and the price depends on the memory capacity. The cheaper version (8 GB RAM, 128 GB memory) costs $599, while the variant with a larger capacity (12 GB RAM, 256 GB memory) costs $699. It’s really difficult not to recommend the Nothing Phone 2 to anyone who is looking for a smartphone at the Rs 45,000 price point. I will go as far as to say that if you can spare the cash, and can move your budget up by Rs 5,000, then do it, you won’t regret it. You get near flagship-level performance, especially in real-life use case scenarios, a pretty solid set of cameras, a design that still manages to turn heads and catch eyeballs, and a pretty solid battery life. And the pretty lights at the back, actually have a ton of functionality now. The only negative that I can think of about the Nothing Phone 2, is that the rear glass surface is a little too slippery and that it only has IP54 water resistance. And, if you’re really looking for a negative, you might add that the Nothing Phone 2 looks a lot like the Phone 1 and that not a lot has changed.

The Phone (2) comes at a starting price of Rs 44,999, which is more than what its competitors offer their devices at. Like the OnePlus 11, which is almost a like-for-like competition. The glyph interface now has gone beyond the novelty value and it is a polarising feature. Either you will love it or you just won’t fancy it as there won’t be a middle ground. Nothing is charging that extra ‘premium’ of Rs 5,000-something for that unique design. Because competition is fierce in this space. If you don’t want the sound and light show and a ‘pure’ Android experience, then there’s the Pixel 7a as well. Not to forget devices from OnePlus and iQoo as well. Having said that, the Nothing Phone (2) is a really good phone that delivers on almost every front. The display is bright and vibrant, the camera clicks images with enough details and clarity and it handles all tasks with relative ease.

Its performances were very similar in terms of autonomy and efficiency compared with its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (1), but the charging experience was significantly improved thanks to increased power supported during the charge. The Nothing Phone (2)’s autonomy in moderate use lasted a decent 2 days and 7 hours. When testing individual usages, autonomy was slightly above average overall. Autonomy excelled when watching videos and using the GPS navigation, but was poor when using the camera outdoors or listening to music. The charging experience was good and much improved over its predecessor. Now supporting charging at 45W, the Nothing Phone (2)’s time to a full charge takes only 56 minutes, half the time of its predecessor’s.

I'd recommend Nothing Phone 2 to anyone who wants a fast, well-specced smartphone without paying the premium of a brand like Apple or Samsung. There are certainly some corners cut to get this RAM and chipset for under $1000 / £1000, such as a good but unremarkable camera. Yet, if you're looking for a budget, or mid-priced new phone that will last and feels different from the norm, this is it. The standout really is the UI and Glyph system, it may take some getting used to but Nothing Phone 2 really does change the way you use a smartphone, limiting needless time spent swiping around and I love how it forces you to rethink which apps are useful, good or needed. Nothing Phone 2 is priced well; the 8GB / 128GB model is $599 / £579, the 12GB / 256GB build is $699 / £629 and the 12GB 512GB version $799 £699.

At its starting price of RM2,999 for the Nothing Phone (2) with 256GB of storage—rising to RM3,499 for the one with 512GB of storage—I have to say, the Phone (2) is a seriously competent package of a smartphone. I mean, there’s a great screen, solid build quality, usable cameras, fantastic software and guaranteed software updates. Oh, and if it matters, there’s the unique Glyph Interface too. Compared to its other Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 rivals that have launched in Malaysia this year, the Phone (2) does stand out as the best overall phone. There’s the Poco F5 Pro that’s much cheaper sure, but you’ll have to make do with a poorer camera setup. Then there’s the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ which goes for RM3,499, but has a much more complete camera setup with a periscope telephoto shooter. Both of these alternatives also don’t have a guaranteed software update policy, nor do they have a slick UI experience in the first place.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the Nothing Phone (2). It can do almost everything you would expect from a premium model—and looks like one too. For the most part, the cameras do a great job for the everyday user. And looking beyond all the hype, I still think Nothing has managed to deliver a pretty impressive semi-flagship phone that checks most boxes. Including a solid build quality, a nice display, excellent performance, and decent cameras. Its cameras certainly have a lot of room for improvement, but ultimately, I can’t help but think if this is how the Phone 2 should’ve shaped up to be. I mean, when you really think about it, this is an iterative upgrade at best. Like… a Nothing phone (1) Pro or something. There’s obviously nothing wrong with iterative upgrades, and maybe I have only myself to blame for my high expectations, but this is not what I envisioned Nothing’s “more premium” smartphone would be like. A stronger ingress protection along with a telephoto camera would’ve been the absolute icing on the cake considering its price.

Is the Nothing Phone (2) a true Android flagship? Almost, but not quite, in my opinion. I find it still a notch below a Samsung Galaxy S23, an iPhone 14 or a Xiaomi 13. Admittedly, these models were more expensive than the Nothing Phone (2) at launch. But they have since come down in price, and are indeed direct competitors to the almost-flagship Nothing. Nevertheless, it's impossible to deny that the Nothing Phone (1) of last year has clearly moved upmarket. Nothing has only been around for four years. The design is more mature, the screen is very clean, the Glyphe interface is a little less gimmicky, performance is totally consistent and Nothing OS 2.0 is well on the way to becoming my favorite Android overlay. In any case, in absolute terms, I can totally recommend the Nothing Phone (2). And I intend to use it on a daily basis for a long time to come, just like the Nothing Phone (1) before it. Yes, I'm a fanboy, but so what? Your smartphone has really cool LEDs, doesn't it? I don't think it does.

And the Nothing OS 2.0 adds awesome ways to make your homescreen clean, simple, unique, and still extremely functional. But once those things start getting addressed, the price may also start climbing towards the flagship threshold.

The thing that strikes us most about the Nothing phone (2) is the refinement of the design. For a phone that's designed to attract attention (despite the company ethos of making tech blend into the background), this is a phone that looks great. I've caught a lot of people stealing a sideward glance at it, not just because I've been using an unreleased phone, but because it's unique. (Don't forget, there are people selling phone skins to make devices look like this.). This phone has the performance of an older flagship, just as you'd expect. But what it doesn't have is the camera performance of an old flagship. The camera lacks in a number of areas, especially low light performance and that's the biggest negative of this device. For some, the positives will outweigh that negative, but for others, the camera performance they are looking for will lie elsewhere.

Pixel photography is typically gorgeous, but the Pixel line comes with that large camera bar on the back compared to the understated dual lenses on the Nothing Phone (2). The $699 OnePlus 11 5G comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, takes better photos, and is similarly sized to the Phone (2). (Side note: Nothing CEO Carl Pei was also a co-founder of OnePlus).

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset delivers this in bundles, beating most of the best mid-range competition in benchmarks. It also has the additional benefits of the 8 Plus Gen 1’s power efficiency which, when coupled with a large 4700mAh cell doesn’t struggle to last all day, with the ability to stretch well into a second day with average use. The twin 50MP snappers are another highlight, with the main camera delivering consistently great-quality snaps in most scenarios, though it’s not quite as capable as the likes of the Pixel 7a in low-light scenarios.

It now supports auto-brightness and you can tag certain apps or types of notifications from a particular app as ‘essential', which means one light strip on the back will stay lit till you dismiss or view that notification. There are new ringtones and notification sound packs, and you can even now use the Glyph lights to keep track of a timer or check the progress of an activity in some third-party apps such as Uber. Finally, the new Glyph composer allows you to create your own ringtones and alert sounds. The Nothing Phone 2 has some tough contenders to deal with in India. Qualcomm Adreno 730:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm affirme qu'elle est 30 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 660 du SoC Snapdragon 888. Pour Android, elle devrait être l'une des cartes graphiques les plus rapides fin 2021.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8+ Gen 1:

SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones, introduit fin 2021 et fabriqué en 4 nm chez TSMC. Il intègre un "Prime Core" basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X2 cadencée jusqu'à 3,2 GHz. Trois autres cœurs de performance sont basés sur l'A710 mais cadencés jusqu'à 2,5 GHz. En outre, quatre cœurs d'économie d'énergie sont intégrés, basés sur l'architecture ARM Cortex-A510 et cadencés jusqu'à 1,8 GHz. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 6e, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5 jusqu'à 3 200 MHz. La 5G est désormais incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X65. Par rapport à la version non plus, le 8+ Gen 1 offre un Prime Core cadencé à 200 MHz de plus et un GPU cadencé à 10% de plus. De plus, elle est désormais produite par TSMC et non plus par Samsung.

6.70": Seuls quelques smartphones possèdent une telle diagonale d’écran. 

Un écran de plus grandes dimensions permettent des résolutions plus élevées, les détails comme la finesse des lettres seront meilleurs. Néanmoins, un écran de plus petite taille est synonyme de consommation énergétique moindre et souvent d’un terminal plus compact, plus léger et plus abordable.
