EN→FR Archive.org versionThe MSI GX60 is a budget gaming notebook that almost gets the formula right. As tested, the GX60 is meant to be sold for $1,420, but we couldn't find it anywhere as of writing. Instead an identical system without the SSD is sold on Amazon and Newegg for $1,200. Considering the SSD was one of weak points of this system, for $100 you could easily justify plugging in a faster, more reliable SSD than the one MSI shipped to us. Despite the bulky aesthetics we applaud how rounded the MSI system is, especially for the price, you get a pretty good GPU, display quality, built-in audio and battery life. Which ultimately makes it hard not to wonder what sort of potential the GX60 could have had with the right processor.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThat said, it all makes for a very sturdy and robust feeling system. Likewise, the keyboard feels great, too. Engineered by keyboard specialist Steelseries, it's very stable with little to no deflection of the keyboard bed. But it's the AMD A10 CPU that's the real sticking point. It's just about tolerable for most current games. But there's absolutely no performance in hand for future games. And it makes the AMD Radeon HD 7970M dedicated graphics chip seem a little futile and the GX60 ultimately a bit off-target.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe MSI GX60 is an affordable Windows 8 gaming notebook that provides excellent graphics performance, surprisingly long battery life and a 1080p HD display. The design could be a little better as it's a little chunky and the keyboard isn't backlit. For the money, the MSI GX60 is a pretty good value. MSI chose to use an AMD CPU that is still able to compete with Intel Core powered notebooks without that added cost. We really like the inclusion of a Blu-ray player and dual hard drives on such an affordable laptop.

EN→FR Archive.org versionSo the MSI GX60 is not only an impressive laptop on paper, but also in practice. While some may consider the AMD A10 Trinity APU to be a bit of a bottleneck, the quad-core processor is more than capable of handling daily tasks and gaming in general. Games like Battlefield 3 and Guild Wars 2 which are heavily dependent on the CPU do show the limitations of the Trinity APU, however.

EN→FR Archive.org versionBudget minded gamers should no doubt give the GX60 a serious look. Its impressive Batman: Arkham City scores alone should tell you that this AMD workhorse is no slouch. The 1080p matte screen makes movies and games look like candy for your retinas, while its keyboard and cool palmrest will be welcome homes for your hands while you taunt your LAN-mates after fragging them.

EN→FR Archive.org versionThe MSI GX60 Laptop is a well priced machine targeting a wide enthusiast audience who don’t wish to pay £1,500-£2,000+ for a new high powered gaming laptop. The recommended retail price of £999.99 inc vat is very competitive. The fact that Overclockers are selling it this week for £899.99 inc vat makes for a very tempting proposition. The MSI GX60 has many strong points worthy of mention. The included Steelseries keyboard is fantastic, offering tactile feedback, well spaced out keys and a full numpad. The only problem is the lack of double height return key, which always causes a problem for me, long term. It isn’t backlit either which is slightly disappointing.
