83.3% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 in review - Overpriced subnotebook without keyboard illumination | Notebookcheck
Microsoft updates the compact Surface Laptop Go and equips the 3rd generation with an Alder Lake Core i5 processor. Furthermore, there is now an optional 16 GB of RAM, but the important keyboard backlight is still missing. At the same time, the price has increased further.
72% Test Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 : Un ordinateur trop cher

70% Microsoft's Surface Laptop Go 3 is stunning, but oof that price
Source: Pocket Lint Anglais EN→FR
For all its flaws, the truth is, I do like the Surface Laptop Go 3. It's a beautifully designed laptop that feels high quality throughout, and the 12-inch size is extremely convenient. I've really enjoyed using it. The problem is all to do with the pricing. The model I was sent for review retails for $999, and a laptop at that price should not feature a last-gen processor, a 720p webcam, a sub 1080p display, and a non-backlit keyboard. It's perfectly understandable to pay a bit extra for fit and finish, but I don't think there's an easy way to justify the cost of this machine. If you see an amazing discount, it may be worth considering, but for most people, there's better value to be found elsewhere. The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED and Dell XPS 13 spring to mind as strong contenders in the price range, and of course, there's the 13-inch MacBook Air if you fancy venturing outside of Windows.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: Portable laptop good for everyday use
Source: Business Standard Anglais EN→FR
At Rs 80,999 onwards, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 is an ultra-portable laptop ideal for basic everyday use. It falls slightly short due to the absence of a backlit keyboard, a reflective display, and reliance on a generation-old processor. Yet, it stands out as a viable option for those in search of a premium laptop with a compact form factor.

60% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: A price hike too far
Source: Expert Reviews Anglais EN→FR
While the third generation model maintains all the traditional Surface Laptop Go strengths – the build quality and looks are still class-leading – as an update, it’s impossible to come away not thinking it’s just a little bit lazy. Overall performance has improved, but not by much, and the quality of the display is much the same, too, although that was, admittedly, good to start with. And, given the price hike, that puts the Microsoft Surface Go 3 in an impossible position. Perhaps with some more serious upgrades, such as a bigger SSD, a 1080p webcam with Windows Hello, a keyboard backlight and an extra USB-C port, we might have considered giving it an award. Sadly, it has none of those things and, as a result, we advise those looking for a top-quality compact laptop to look elsewhere. At this price, the M1 MacBook Air is a much better option and, if you can’t stretch to that and still want a budget Surface device, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is far better value.

60% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: perfect for portability
Source: T3 Anglais EN→FR
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 takes the baton from its predecessor in rather undynamic fashion. We don't get any killer upgrades, and while the higher cost of entry makes perfect sense when you look at the specs, it means some of the omissions and cut-down elements stand out more. An laptop at this price with a plastic touchpad, last-gen CPU, non-backlit keyboard, 720p webcam and kinda pixilated screen? These aren't close to being deal-breakers in isolation, but the Surface Laptop Go 3 brings a lot of these issues together to party. However, it's still a potentially ideal laptop for lots of folks who don't have super-high technical demands. Its portability is brilliant, it's comfy for long-form typing, it's handsome, and it costs less than any MacBook (unless there's a great deal on).

60% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: I need more
Source: Stuff TV Anglais EN→FR
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 may seem to have gone off the rails at first glance. A much higher starting price? Madness, surely? Microsoft has actually just nixed the low-spec versions that were hard to recommend. But, yes, it does put the Surface into even more direct competition with more aggressively value-led laptops from companies like Acer, Asus and Lenovo. You don’t get much in the way of improvement here, and even the updated CPU manages to be outdated at launch. I still rate the Laptop Go 3 highly for general roving and portable use, and think it’s a cute little champ. But Microsoft really needs to bump up a few other areas, like the keyboard backlight and perhaps resolution, if it wants to compete at this price.

60% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: An average laptop for a low intensity user
Source: Creative Bloq Anglais EN→FR
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 hasn’t improved much at all of the Laptop Go 2. It has the same old sub-standard display resolution and 720p webcam. The battery life is okay but not great, especially for those on the go a lot. The Intel processor keeps the laptop moving and will be fine for students writing essays or users spending a lot of time browsing the web. The device can be upgraded to 16GB RAM but that will set you back an additional £200 and take you into the realms of a basic MacBook Air that will deliver far better display quality. The Laptop Go 3 is an average laptop that will serve the low-intensity user really well.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 is almost unchanged from its previous iterations, which is both good and bad. Good because it sports one of the lightest and smallest designs for any laptop on the market, with a solid keyboard and touchpad, and great audio quality. Bad because the specs and performance are still middling at best.

Considering that the previous two generations of Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Go range have been home runs and regular features on our list of the best Windows laptops, I had high hopes for this third generation. However, a major price hike and too many cut corners mean this simply isn’t as good of a choice as it could and should have been. The Sage green colour looks excellent and this is a lightweight and compact laptop that’s especially portable. It’s got a comfortable keyboard and trackpad and looks modern. What’s more, it’s reasonably powerful and offers some good endurance. However, all of the above comes with some large caveats – the port selection is odd and minimal, while the processor powering the Surface Laptop Go 3 isn’t even part of Intel’s latest generation. The battery life is also short of the competition, while the 12.5-inch display provides a resolution short of Full HD and grainy images.

Honestly, it’s hard to recommend the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 as a good fit for anyone. If your needs are simple and you budget humble, you can get a better laptop for less – even if you’re a student who doesn’t need the latest and greatest. If you’ve got $1,500 to spend and you need something decent, it’s not hard to find something better than this, especially if you’re after a big sharper screen and/or more grunt.

The Go 3’s plus points lie not in speed or features, but in the outstanding operation plus touchscreen, the high build quality, the low weight and elegant design: this makes the Microsoft notebook unique in its price class. Since it hardly differs from its predecessor, you can also go for the cheaper Surface Laptop Go 2: Although it is only available with 8GB RAM, this is not very noticeable if you mainly work with office applications.

60% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: Too much for too little
Source: PC World Anglais EN→FR
We don’t test an enormous variety of budget laptops, but it’s pretty clear that the Surface Laptop Go 3 is too overpriced for what it offers. Consider the Asus ZenBook 14X OLED: the screen is enormously better at 2880×1800 (with an OLED to boot), and that laptop clearly outperforms the Surface Laptop Go 3 in every facet, even accounting for the more memory of the Surface Laptop Go 3. The Aspire Vero is closest, price-wise, and it does too. By itself, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 isn’t that bad. But, comparatively, there are far better options. Microsoft may have to reconsider its strategy here; either compete on price or upgrade the Surface Laptop Go’s components to offer some sort of advantage over the competition. For now, there’s little reason to buy it.

Microsoft has released the Surface Laptop Go 3, an updated version of its compact 12.4-inch laptop aimed at students. While it maintains the sleek design and portability, it now features a faster updated processor paired with LDDR5 RAM. However, it incurs a price increase over the Laptop Go 2 and now competes with other Windows laptops in the sub-$1,000 category, making it a hard sell for many, especially when compared to the base Surface Laptop 5.

If you want a lightweight laptop with a premium build and a touchscreen that costs around $1,000, and you don’t mind 12th-Gen chips, I have faith that you can find great options in just a few minutes of Googling. You will find brighter and higher-resolution screens. You will find backlit keyboards. You will find storage galore. Look, here’s one I just pulled up for you: the Dell XPS 13 is available for literally $949 with a stunning FHD touchscreen and a more powerful processor and a 512GB SSD. (And if you think Microsoft knows how to build a beautiful device, wait until you see the XPS line.) I truly do like the Laptop Go 3 as a concept. But this particular unit doesn’t just ask for some compromises; it is one big compromise all the way down. Either wait until it’s on sale for like $500 or just go get an XPS.

I wanted to like the Surface Laptop Go 3, but Microsoft didn't make it easy
Source: Zdnet.com Anglais EN→FR
Microsoft's Surface Laptop Go 3 is a bit of an odd duck. It has a lot of things going for it, but certain design choices make this computer frustrating to use. The Surface Laptop Go 3, if you're not familiar with it, is a lightweight notebook aimed at college students and professionals who want a machine that can handle basic, essential workloads. It weighs a paltry 2.5 pounds (I've had actual paper notebooks from college weigh more than this), which makes it a great device for users who are constantly on the go. But don't worry about fragility with the Surface Laptop Go 3 because it's made entirely out of specially-made aluminum. The lid has "anodized aluminum" for exceptional toughness.

80% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 review: The keyboard makes me want to cry

This laptop is tiny. If Jason Momoa carried this laptop in his hands, I’m pretty sure it’d look like the Surface Duo (a foldable phone Microsoft released in 2020). To put things into perspective, the 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro has more screen real estate than the display on this 12.4-inch machine – and it’s a tablet. However, for those who prefer compact, portable laptops that can easily slip into their backpacks and travel bags, the Surface Laptop Go 3 should be on your shortlist. I can see this being the daily driver of young students or Gen Z users seeking a laptop that can handle casual usage with style and sophistication. And most importantly, if you’re seeking a sub-$800 laptop with arguably the best keyboard on the market (in this price range), this Surface Laptop Go 3 is the one for you.

Given that there aren't many 12-inch Windows PCs around, the Surface Laptop Go 3 certainly stands out. And now, thanks to a faster processor and the option of 16GB of RAM, it's more than just a basic notebook. Almost by accident, Microsoft has crafted one of the most compelling and compact mid-range laptops around. Anyone looking for a new ultraportable won't be disappointed — just don't squint too hard at that screen.

40% Outclassed and overpriced, the Surface Laptop Go 3 can’t play with the big boys
Source: Digital Trends Anglais EN→FR
The Surface Laptop Go 3 suffers greatly from its price increase. As I’ve stressed throughout this review, you can get other laptops for the same price (or less) that offer a significantly better overall value. Microsoft’s offering is just too slow, with a middling build quality and low-resolution display, and is also behind the curve on too many components. That leaves the Surface Laptop Go 3 in a difficult position. At its base price of $800, you can buy the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED and Dell XPS 13 9315, both much better laptops. At the upgraded price of $1,000, you can buy the Apple MacBook Air M1, which is also superior. At $550, the Surface Laptop Go 3 would be compelling. But at its new price, it’s impossible to recommend, even for staunch Surface fans.

60% Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 Review
Source: PC Mag Anglais EN→FR
Generally speaking, when a PC maker increases the asking price of a product beyond that of the previous generation, you expect the boost in bucks to deliver something worthwhile in components or feature set. With the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 (starts at $799.99; $999.99 as tested), we can dispel those expectations right now. Yes, the new flavor of Go comes in with a newer processor and longer tested battery life, and the base capacities for memory and storage have been boosted from the paltry 4GB and 128GB of the last generation. But the Laptop Go 3 does little else to justify its new cost, and the new pricing catapults it out of the budget-laptop range and into competition with a whole different class of laptops. As a result, this 12.4-inch model with a relatively low-resolution panel compares poorly with laptops in its new price neighborhood, making it much more difficult to recommend than the Laptop Go 2, which hit a sweeter spot.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 is sleek and portable, but it's no powerhouse. While Microsoft has positioned it to take on the MacBook Air, a dated 12th Gen Intel CPU holds the Surface Laptop Go 3 back. Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 hands-on: A better cheap PC
Source: Engadget Anglais
The Surface Laptop Go has always been an interesting experiment for Microsoft: What if you took the basic design of the Surface Laptop, but diminished its specs to make it far more affordable? We've always found them intriguing, but with the Surface Laptop Go 3, Microsoft has finally transformed its cheap PC into a potentially great computer. Mostly, that's due to the new Intel 12th-gen CPU, which makes the entire computing experience feels far zippier than before. It feels so good, you might not even notice that the Laptop Go 3's screen doesn't quite hit 1080p (it's still 1,536 by 1,024, like before).
