The new Series 9 is a tantalizing machine, and it fills the niche of the 15-inch Ultrabook. But I know Samsung can do a better job on the keyboard and touchpad. Until they do, you may want to opt for a cheaper Ultrabook with more accurate input devices, unless you're absolutely set on a 15-inch screen.

Are larger-scale ultrabooks the laptop version of "Dead man walking"? The latest Samsung Series 9 goes extra-big, and the gamble pays off with the most portable and comfortable 15-incher you're likely to find. However, its high price and lack of higher-end features don't make it the best value.

By contrast, if your workload centers on office productivity suitable for an ultrabook, your choice will come down to the Samsung's big, bright screen versus some ultrabooks' better keyboards and full-sized ports. The latter factors, and its lower price, keep the HP Folio 13 in place as our ultrabook Editors' Choice, but the Series 9 15-inch joins the HP Envy 14 Spectre as a premium alternative.

The Samsung Series 9 15-inch is a notebook that straddles multiple categories. It has the screen size of a mainstream laptop but is light and thin enough to be considered an ultraportable. We love its spacious 1600 x 900 display, amazingly fast boot time, and long battery life. Yet, for a $1,499 system, there's a few things that are lacking. The keyboard travel is somewhat shallow for our tastes, and we'd like a visual or tactile cue between the left and right mouse buttons.

Ultrabooks are definitely not anything new. However, Samsung hopes to do better than the rest with their updated 2012 model of the Series 9 laptop, which comes in either 13.3- or 15-inch models. We reviewed the 15-inch one and were amazed by its thinness as well as its internal specs and performance.

Intel HD Graphics 3000:

3 GPUs à venir (1er Trimestre 2011) intégrés aux CPU Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). Les 3000 / 200 correspondent à la puce GT2 avec 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.
