L'ordinateur portable de 12,4 pouces de Microsoft est équipé d'une puce Intel de 11e génération et est conçu pour durer un peu plus longtemps qu'un ultraportable moyen. Il est possible de remplacer le clavier et le pavé tactile. Le dernier PC de Microsoft, le Surface Laptop Go 2, est un ordinateur portable qui met en évidence le calcul difficile à faire pour les fabricants entre le prix et les concessions en matière de fonctionnalités nécessaires pour proposer un ordinateur portable à petit prix en 2022. Une expérience différente de celle du Surface Laptop Go original de 2020. Par rapport à ce premier modèle, celui-ci est un peu plus cher, mais il est aussi un peu meilleur. Peut-être même plus qu'un peu, selon la configuration. Pour la deuxième version du Surface Laptop Go, Microsoft a dû contourner les problèmes économiques actuels en réévaluant le niveau de prix de son ordinateur portable d'entrée de gamme. Le modèle de base du Surface Laptop Go 2 est proposé à 669 euros. Le Surface Laptop Go original avait essayé de se calquer sur l'excellent design du Surface Laptop, et de le dépouiller de certaines caractéristiques pour un budget plus modeste. Il s'agissait d'un ordinateur portable avec un écran de 12,4 pouces et un Intel Core i5 de 10e génération. Le gros problème était que le modèle de base, malgré son prix attractif, était équipé d'une combinaison peu attrayante de 4 Go de RAM et d'un maigre 64 Go de stockage sur disque dur.

Avec son Surface Laptop Go 2 Microsoft avait une occasion en or de gommer les quelques défauts du modèle original pour nous délivrer un petit PC portable réellement intéressant. À la place, le géant de Redmond se contente d’une mise à jour fainéante de son ultraportable à prix contenu. Tout est (presque) pareil que sur le premier modèle : les qualités sont les mêmes… et globalement les défauts aussi. On retrouve donc avec plaisir un design réussi, un châssis ultra compact, réellement agréable en situation de mobilité, et un niveau de finitions difficilement attaquable. Le clavier est toujours aussi bon, le trackpad aussi, et Microsoft passe (avec un an de retard) aux processeurs Intel Tiger Lake pour nous offrir un peu plus de puissance pour les activités du quotidien. Malheureusement, le clavier n’est pas rétroéclairé (eh oui, Microsoft nous a refait le coup !), le capteur d’empreintes digital n’est toujours pas proposé de série sur toutes les configurations, la densité de pixels de l’écran est un peu faible, et la connectique ajoutée à l’engin est une nouvelle fois réduite à la portion congrue.

Les principaux défauts relevés lors du test de la première version subsistent et la mise à jour du processeur lui apporte certes un surplus de performance bienvenu, mais au détriment de l'autonomie qui est amputée de près de 2 h. Heureusement, le Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 conserve son format compact et ses finitions exemplaires.

Microsoft is keen to push this laptop’s other security features, making much of the fact that this is a “Secured-core PC”. The idea is that you have a protected “boot path” that will spot compromised firmware, but all big laptop makers offer something similar; you can decide for yourself by reading Microsoft’s documentation. Microsoft also hopes to lure business customers with the promise of replaceable parts, but a one-year warranty and the fact that components such as memory are embedded on the board don’t really make this a selling point. But, whether you’re buying for business, home use or a mix of both, it’s price and portability that appeal here. Despite that 4GB of RAM, the base configuration is still tempting, because it would be a brilliant secondary laptop. Even if you end up buying the 8GB version with a 256GB SSD, it’s a terrific little machine for the price.

For the price, this is an excellent introduction to the Microsoft Surface line, and it earns its place as a budget offering for students, work users and casual users alike. It’s not a power house – and at the price, nor should it be – but it’s eminently portable, easy to use and carry about without having to even think about packing a power cord or anything else at all. With that in mind, it’s easy to recommend the Surface Laptop Go 2 as a reasonable laptop around the $1100-1200 mark. However, if you’ve got a little more to spend – maybe as little as a couple of hundred bucks – the Surface Laptop 4 range is within reach and a bit more capable all round. It’s a shame that Microsoft has only upgraded the processor for this sequel, but I loved the original so much that it isn’t a major issue. The dinky size makes it a dream for frequent commuters, while the build quality makes it feel like a laptop that costs more than a grand. I wish Microsoft had at least improved the screen resolution though to make videos and photos look sharper. Despite its shortcomings, I still believe the Surface Laptop Go 2 is one of the absolute best Windows laptops at its price point. If you’re looking for an ultra-portable laptop for under £600, then I’d struggle to name a better value option than the Surface Laptop Go 2.

Running basic applications and web browsers were fine for everyday use, but I found myself defaulting to Microsoft's own Edge browser over Chrome, because it's better optimized for less powerful Windows 11 systems. In our performance tests, the 2022 version, with its 11th-gen Core i5 was indeed faster than the 2020 version's 10th-gen Core i5. But other budget laptops, like the Gateway 14 or a couple of options with AMD Ryzen 7 processors, beat it out in benchmark tests. That Gateway, one of our current budget favorites, has the same processor, but includes 16GB of RAM and a big 512GB SSD, currently for $499. It is, however, not nearly as nice looking or well made as the Surface. Despite other laptops offering better specs for the same or less money, the overall look and feel of the Surface Laptop Go 2 counts for a lot. A budget laptop isn't as useful if you don't enjoy actually using it. I'd call this a good laptop if you're interested in portability, looks and a great typing experience.

And in a way, that’s important context when comparing Microsoft’s most travel-friendly notebook to more expensive rivals. For someone like me who uses a desktop at home, the Surface Laptop Go 2 is a great travel companion and I'd much rather drag it around than the bigger and heavier Intel MacBook Pro 13 I got assigned for work. Sure, it’s not quite as powerful and it’s got a lower-res screen, but it has more than enough performance for working on the go. It's also a great machine for students or anyone who just wants a well-designed no-frills notebook that's easy to carry. It doesn’t have an IR webcam for facial login or a stylus like you get on more sophisticated Surfaces, but that's okay. Even if you pay for an upgraded model (which I highly recommend), the Surface Laptop Go 2 is still super portable, very affordable and even kind of stylish, while also having all the basics down pat.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.
