Quelle agréable surprise que ce Nubia Z60 Ultra ! En plus d’un écran quasi parfait et dénué de perforation, il dispose d’un équipement à faire pâlir la concurrence : Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 8 à 16 Go de RAM ainsi que 256 ou 512 Go de stockage interne. L’ensemble fonctionne parfaitement et dispose de performances dignes d’un smartphone gaming. La batterie de 6000 mAh procure jusqu’à deux jours d’autonomie et le mécanisme de charge rapide s’avère efficace. L’aspect photographique n’est pas négligé, loin de là. Les trois modules composant la caméra dorsale produisent d’excellentes images qui n’ont pas à rougir face à ce que proposent les ténors du marché Apple et Samsung. Cela fait-il du Z60 Ultra le smartphone de rêve que tout le monde attendait ? Oui, à condition d’accepter quelques petits inconvénients.

Comme souvent en Europe et en France, on n’attend pas forcément les smartphones de Nubia mais force est de constater que le constructeur chinois ne se rate pas et nous propose un très bon rapport qualité-prix. Le Nubia Z60 Ultra est un smartphone qui mérite sa place lors du choix d’un smartphone haut de gamme, surtout avec son prix compétitif. Tout dépendra donc de vos priorités, à défaut de la meilleure caméra selfie sur le marché, on apprécie très fortement l’écran intégral. Au final, le Nubia Z60 Ultra est un smartphone en soi performant, réussi et équilibré. Il assure l’essentiel voire plus dans quasiment tous les domaines et c’est ce qu’on lui demande. Il propose enfin un design futuriste et technique qui peut plaire aux plus geeks. Mais comme chaque année, le plus gros soucis de Nubia sera de convaincre le consommateur français de se laisser tenter par une marque qui n’est pas forcément la plus connue dans nos contrées et ce, malgré un très bon rapport qualité-prix, ce qui lui a donné un petit +1 sur la note finale.

The Nubia Z60 Ultra is an unusual flagship phone, one most people will never hear about. Two of its key strengths are a big screen that isn’t interrupted by a notch or punch hole, thanks to an under-screen selfie camera, and an extra-large battery that results in extra-long battery life. There are trade-offs, though. This is a big and heavy phone, and a kinda ugly one by conventional standards. Its software isn’t great either. As ever this is just a thin veneer on top of standard Android, and you can tweak most elements, although the slightly heavy-handed camera image processing doesn’t have such easy workarounds.

The Nubia brand might not be overly familiar here in the West, but this ZTE offshoot has quietly been carving out a niche in recent years with its surprisingly affordable Red Magic gaming phones. However, the Nubia Z60 Ultra represents something slightly different. It takes many of the Red Magic 9 Pro’s hardware features and seeks to apply them to a more mainstream flagship phone. The result is a super-sized handset with impressive performance, a huge battery, and a surprisingly fully featured camera system, for less than $600/£700. That said, the mainstream smartphone space is a much more hotly contested market, with customers who have come to expect finesse and balance from the best phones out there. There’s no getting away from the fact that the Nubia Z60 Ultra’s brash looks will put many off. Not to mention, it’s big and unusually heavy, while its industrial design language feels somewhat clumsy.

Well, here we are at the end of the review. Should you buy the Nubia Z60 Ultra? That's a really tough question. This phone has a lot going on but there are some drawback we just can't overlook. For one, it tends to get very hot under heavy load, and if you're gaming a lot or using heavy apps, it might be an issue. Then there's the form factor. The phone is huge and boxy, might not appeal to everyone. On the other hand, this industrial design, paired with the latest Snapdragon, an ample camera system, and a great display with an almost invisible selfie camera, could very well justify the $599 starting price. One thing is certain, though. The era of the edge-to-edge display is nigh. It's only a matter of time for the big guys to perfect the technology and get there. And if you want an early taste of that, the Nubia Z60 Ultra is a decent choice.

The Z60 Ultra is impressive on paper but struggles to back up its promises after a few days of use. While its performance and battery life are outstanding, the unreliable software and disappointing cameras are frustrating daily. It feels like a phone that should have gone through a few more rounds of testing before it made its way to the public. If Nubia manages to improve these issues with software updates, we could consider it one of the best Android phones around, but I don't hold out much hope with only three years to go. The Nubia Z60 Ultra is the first Nubia phone sold in the US, offering similar top-of-the-line specs to its Redmagic line, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 included. Software bugs hold back the experience, but the price is certainly right for what you get.

Even in outdoor conditions, the device struggled to click usable selfies, so one can imagine the situation in low lighting conditions. You can use it for video calls, but do not expect it to play well when shooting photos. Nubia Z60 Ultra is a beast of a smartphone, and is a great value package with impressive cameras, display, performance, and battery backup, held back by software. While the software does pack a lot of bells and whistles, under the hood optimisation is still missing. Even when it gets fixed, it’s sad that consumers in India may not ever get their hands on the Z60 Ultra, a blend of beauty and power.

If you want an alternative smartphone, the Vivo IQOO 12 is also quite capable and features a similar feature set. The best part is that IQOO 12 is available at a similar price point to the ZTE Nubia Z60 Ultra. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

Qualcomm Adreno 750:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm affirme qu'il est 25 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 7340 dans le Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 et les premiers benchmarks montrent que le GPU peut battre l'iGPU Apple A17 Pro.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8 Gen 3: SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones présenté fin 2022 avec un noyau principal rapide basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X3 cadencée à 3,2 GHz. Deux autres cœurs de performance sont basés sur l'A715 et ne prennent en charge que les applications 64 bits. Les deux autres cœurs A710 prennent également en charge les applications 32 bits, tout comme les cœurs Cortex-A510 à économie d'énergie. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 7, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5x jusqu'à 4 200 MHz. la 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70.

Un écran de plus grandes dimensions permettent des résolutions plus élevées, les détails comme la finesse des lettres seront meilleurs. Néanmoins, un écran de plus petite taille est synonyme de consommation énergétique moindre et souvent d’un terminal plus compact, plus léger et plus abordable.
