Le MacBook Air M3 était un très bon choix l’an dernier. Cette année, le MacBook Air M4 est probablement le meilleur choix que vous puissiez faire si vous cherchez un ultraportable puissant, polyvalent, confortable et endurant. Il n’a pas d’écran OLED / 120 Hz ni une connectique ultra fournie ou, encore, de connectivité Wi-Fi 7, c’est vrai, et son SSD gagnerait à être plus tonique, mais l’équilibre proposé par la marque à la pomme avec ce produit est tout bonnement remarquable… et l’appareil se paye le luxe de baisser sensiblement de prix, tout en étant plus puissant et mieux équipé. Une véritable rareté chez Apple.

La liste des nouveautés reste bien maigre avec un nouveau coloris bleu ciel qui tient davantage du gris clair ainsi qu'une webcam plus intelligente. Pour le reste, on reste sur les mêmes forces et faiblesses de la machine, dont l'écran et la connectique ne bouge pas en 2025. Despite the fact that this is is a bit of Prime Day spin, this is still a very good price for the 13in M4 MacBook Air; it’s our favourite laptop right now, by the way, and for good reason. It’s fast, beautifully made, has a brilliant screen, keyboard and touchpad. The speakers are awsome, battery life is brilliant and it runs completely silently as there’s no fan inside. It is not particularly brilliant at gaming and the 256GB SSD is on the small side – but in every other respect, there’s no better laptop you can buy for £849. If fact, I’d go so far as to say if this is your budget and gaming isn’t a priority, you shouldn’t be looking at anything else. The 13in M4 MacBook Air is the best laptop around and the price is fantastically reasonable. Just don’t call it a Prime Day deal.

Unless you need a laptop small enough for a seat-back tray on a plane (get the 13-inch MacBook Air or think about the iPad Mini), the combination of a larger display with Apple’s nimble M4 performance and excellent keyboard is hard to argue against. Those who prefer a laptop with a touchscreen should check out the Microsoft Surface Laptop and the Lenovo Slim 7x, and especially the former if you like USB-A. Lastly, anyone who’s got a MacBook Air with M2 or M3? Unless you really need that extra 20% or so performance or really fancy this Sky Blue design, I think you’re already good.

The Zenbook S 14 does snatch a win at a couple of things like display, port selection, and gaming but besides that… the MacBook Air has a clean sweep at everything else. The MacBook Air continues to impress – and this bump in performance, thanks to the M4 chip, makes it an unbelievably powerful option in both sizes. For portability, the 13-inch is still my choice, but if you do want a larger screen, the 15-inch is still impressively thin and lightweight, making it easy to slip into your bag. On paper, the screen brightness and performance of the MacBook Air suggests a big step down from the MacBook Pro – but I found the screen to still be very impressive. So, unless that extra brightness and refresh rate are critical for your work, you won’t feel short-changed. Overall, the MacBook Air M4 offers both power and portability unlike anything else in the market. While little has changed generation to generation, the Air remains a shining example of a laptop done right.

Most people, if they own anything other than a phone, keep only one additional device. If you decide that device should be a laptop, the MacBook Air is the best choice there is. It’s light as a feather and powerful enough to handle everything I could throw at it with absolute grace. Personally, I don’t have room in my life for a MacBook. I always plan on having some manner of desktop Mac to run my Plex server and store my media libraries. I’m happy with my Apple Vision Pro headset for handling lighter work and home entertainment. If I were to add another form factor to the mix, I would sooner grab an iPad for its unique capabilities as a tablet. Still, I was impressed by my time with the M4 Macbook Air for this review. It’s good to know that the vast majority of people who prefer laptops still have an excellent choice.

The new MacBook Air may not be as seminal a machine as the recently updated Mac Mini, but it’s easily one of the best MacBook Airs Apple has ever released. It’s powerful, well-built, thin and light, has a long battery life, and is even cheaper than the model it replaces. Furthermore, it now comes with 16GB of memory as standard, which addresses one of our longest-standing and biggest issues with Apple’s base configuration MacBooks. However, it’s not perfect. The Liquid Retina display is starting to look outdated now given that most Windows laptops are steadily transitioning to OLED displays. Throttling can be an issue on longer or more intensive workloads. Also, having just 256GB and two USB-C ports is a bit miserly. Thankfully, none of these are dealbreakers and don’t detract from the fact that, for most people, the MacBook Air is all the MacBook they’ll need.

And, its battery life maintains the most attractive performance-efficiency ratio over the best Windows has to offer. With a starting price of $1,000 for a very usable configuration, the only reason to pass up the MacBook Air 13 is if you just simply can’t live without Windows. I suspect that this will be fewer and fewer people as time goes by.

Unless you need a laptop small enough for a seat-back tray on a plane (get the 13-inch MacBook Air or think about the iPad Mini), the combination of a larger display with Apple’s nimble M4 performance and excellent keyboard is hard to argue against. Those who prefer a laptop with a touchscreen should check out the Microsoft Surface Laptop and the Lenovo Slim 7x, and especially the former if you like USB-A. Lastly, anyone who’s got a MacBook Air with M2 or M3? Unless you really need that extra 20% or so performance or really fancy this Sky Blue design, I think you’re already good.

I would also like to tell you, and just to you, Tim, that I don't think this is a bad thing. While the changes this year are marginal, the MacBook Air with M4 SoC is a better deal for two reasons: First, it comes with a better webcam, better connectivity for displays, and with the unmissable, more powerful SoC, providing it with obvious technical advantages over its predecessor. Unfortunately, these are not large enough technological leaps for existing customers to buy the new model.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.
Apple M4 10-Core GPU: Adaptateur graphique intégré conçu par Apple et doté de 10 cœurs. Cet iGPU est intégré dans les SoC M4 de Apple (tant la version à 9 cœurs que celle à 10 cœurs) ; il utilise l'architecture de mémoire unifiée et n'est pas très différent du GPU M3 à 10 cœurs en termes de caractéristiques. Les premières comparaisons entre le GPU M4 à 10 cœurs et le GPU M3 à 10 cœurs laissent entrevoir des gains de performance de l'ordre de 15 %, mais il est important de préciser d'emblée que la durabilité des performances de la puce M4 sera très faible en raison de la finesse du châssis des nouveaux iPads, dépourvu de toute forme de refroidissement actif. Tout comme le reste de la puce Apple M3, l'adaptateur graphique est fabriqué selon un processus TSMC de "deuxième génération 3 nm".
Apple M4 8-Core GPU: Un adaptateur graphique intégré dans le plus petit SoC de la série Apple M4 qui a fait ses débuts en octobre 2024 avec le nouvel iMac. On ne sait pas s'il s'agit d'un GPU M4 à 10 cœurs avec deux cœurs désactivés ou si Apple fabrique un tout nouveau SoC M4 avec moins de cœurs de CPU et de GPU par conception. Ses performances devraient être aussi bonnes que celles de la Radeon 760M d'AMD.
