Doté des derniers Core Ultra d’Intel, le Zenbook 14 Oled 2024 est une grande réussite. Puissant à souhait, il se permet même d’être à l’aise en jeu si l’on excepte les plus gourmands. Côté IA, son NPU est encore sous-exploité, mais les capacités sont là. Son écran Oled est un régal une fois que l’on a opté pour le bon réglage. Et il ne démérite pas côté batterie avec une autonomie suffisante pour près de deux jours d’utilisation. Le tout est enrobé dans un châssis sobre, solide et bien fini. Reste que quelques détails n’ont pas été corrigés depuis la version de 2022, comme la touche “Enter” toujours aussi difficile à appréhender, la mauvaise répartition de la connectique ou encore la webcam assez médiocre malgré une meilleure définition.

En plus de cela, on se retrouve avec un écran OLED qui marque une vraie rupture par rapport aux autres technologies d'écran, le tout avec des performances idéales pour la bureautique et le multimédia, le tout dans un appareil avec une épaisseur inférieure à 15mm et un poids de moins de 1,3kg. Au final, il y a très peu de choses qu'on puisse reprocher à l'Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (2024). C'était un plaisir de l'utiliser pendant le CES 2024 et on regrette de l'avoir rendu trop tôt à Asus, mais ce sont les aléas du métier, on n'est pas des influenceurs ! Asus nous propose une des machines les plus sexy en ce début d'année.

On aurait aimé avoir un ou deux ports de plus sur la tranche gauche de la machine, mais ce nouveau Zenbook est tout de même un PC de choix pour qui voudrait travailler sans avoir la peur de tomber en rade rapidement. Ce modèle d’Asus nous montre les possibilités offertes par l’architecture Meteor Lake d’Intel, et indique un bel avenir pour celle-ci sur les prochains modèles de PC portables.

Avec lui, ASUS prouve être capable d’écouter les retours de la presse et de ses clients pour améliorer tout ce qui peut l’être. On profite ainsi cette année d’un châssis encore mieux conçu et nettement plus solide, couplé cette fois encore à un écran OLED quasi parfait. Armé d’un processeur Intel « Meteor Lake », l’appareil développe par ailleurs un niveau de performances très flatteur pour son format et parvient à nous offrir une autonomie solide pour travailler toute la journée sans s’embarrasser d’un chargeur. Intel, de son côté, nous fournit une nouvelle génération de puces prometteuse, mais qui ne marque pas encore de rupture technologique selon nous.

L'effort d'Asus sur l'OLED paye une nouvelle fois avec une très bonne dalle 3K et 120 Hz, le châssis Zenbook 14 déjà bien connu a su s'améliorer, même s'il conserve quelques petits points qui titillent toujours, et l'univers applicatif du constructeur est toujours parmi les meilleurs. Mais voilà : la star du Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405 de 2024, c'est évidemment le nouveau SoC Core Ultra 7 d'Intel en génération Meteor Lake. Et s'il n'évolue pas sur sa puissance effective, qui reste équivalente à la 13e voire la 12e génération de ses puces ultrabooks, sa nouvelle architecture en trois temps inspirée par ARM lui permet enfin d'atteindre une autonomie confortable de 15 heures sans avoir recours à la moindre feinte pour cela. La compétition avec les Apple M est engagée. Il en va de même sur la partie GPU, où les efforts constatés sur les cartes Arc desktop se retrouvent enfin sur le mobile. Ici, Intel tient enfin tête aux APU Ryzen d'AMD, comme ceux que l'on retrouve sur les nouveaux "PC consoles" du marché.

I showed this laptop to a friend who uses a MacBook Pro, and he too gave it a serious thought. While Windows is a major factor when considering something other than a MacBook, it is time we admit that Windows machines are getting pretty good too. Spec for spec, feature for feature, ASUS is giving you a touchscreen laptop with a 3k OLED display, really good speakers, a solid battery life, and a durable chassis. But then as I said in the headline, it is skipping the basics. It still ships with a clunky charger and no 360-degree mode. The bottom line is if you’re someone who frequently travels, or needs a light and powerful laptop, the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is a good choice. It has great specs and a good display for work and multimedia consumption. You’ll just have to live with the occasional glare under direct sunlight, and maybe use a lighter third-party charger.

The bottom line is if you’re someone who frequently travels, or needs a light and powerful laptop, the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is a good choice. It has great specs and a good display for work and multimedia consumption. You’ll just have to live with the occasional glare under direct sunlight, and maybe use a lighter third-party charger.

With prices starting at £1,099, it’s strong competition for the likes of the 13.6in and 15in MacBook Air. As a showcase for Intel’s latest CPU, however, I’d have to say the jury’s out right now. With its thin and light design, the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED can’t quite show off the full potential of Intel’s new Core 7 Ultra CPU, but it makes a great demonstration of how the new architecture is enabling manufacturers to reach higher levels of performance from an ultraportable device. It comfortably tops similar devices from the previous generation, like the Dell XPS 13 Plus (2023), and even larger ones, like the Asus Zenbook 15 OLED and LG Gram SuperSlim. In fact, with its fantastic OLED screen and comfortable ergonomics, the Asus could work as a creator’s laptop or a business machine, or just about anything else bar a full-blooded gaming PC. Here the new Arc iGPU is a huge improvement on Intel’s earlier integrated graphics tech – and serious competition for AMD’s fastest APUs in the likes of the Acer Swift Edge 16 – but still not in the same league as dedicated hardware. If you want more gaming capabilities, you’ll need to look for something bigger, heavier and faster, but this is a brilliant and versatile ultraportable for everyone else.

Intel Arc 8-Cores: Carte graphique intégrée basée sur l'architecture Xe LPG (similaire aux GPU Arc dédiés, mais axée sur l'efficacité). Fournit les 8 cœurs Xe (128 moteurs vectoriels Xe) et 8 unités de ray tracing.
Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.

Ultra 7 155H: Une puce Meteor Lake haut de gamme qui a fait ses débuts en décembre 2023. Ce processeur Core Ultra de 1ère génération est venu remplacer les puces Core de 13ème génération ; il dispose de 16 cœurs (6 + 8 + 2) et de 22 threads. Ses cœurs Performance, au nombre de 6, tournent jusqu'à 4,8 GHz tandis que ses cœurs Efficient, au nombre de 10 (8 cœurs principaux plus 2 supplémentaires trouvés dans l'îlot basse consommation) tournent jusqu'à 3,8 GHz. Le NPU AI Boost intégré offre deux moteurs Gen 3 pour l'accélération matérielle des charges de travail d'IA. La consommation d'énergie "minimale assurée" de ce processeur pour ordinateur portable est de 28 W, tandis que sa consommation d'énergie Turbo est censée rester inférieure à 115 W.
