Courte critique du processeur AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (16 core, 32 threads)

AMD envoie du lourd ! AMD a sorti sa nouvelle génération d’APU Threadripper, suite au succès du lancement de ses APU Ryzen de bureau de deuxième génération. La nouvelle série est non seulement une évolution de la génération précédente, mais introduit également des APU avec 32 cœurs et 64 threads. Ces nouveaux APU sont la tentative d’AMD de remporter la palme du processeur le plus performant du marché, ce qui va mettre la pression à Intel. Nous allons nous concentrer sur le Ryzen Threadripper 2950X dans ce test, et verrons si cet APU 16 cœurs vaut ou non le coup.

AMD lance maintenant sa nouvelle série d’APU Threadripper, après l'évolution Zen+ de ses autres APU ce printemps. Les 4 nouveaux APU Threadripper sont basés sur le procédé industriel FinFET de 12 nm, et apporte une série d’améliorations par rapport à leurs prédécesseurs. AMD a non seulement augmenté la fréquence, mais aussi le nombre de cœurs ; la série WX avec 24 ou 32 cœurs est d’une puissance inégalée.

Le nouveau APU le plus puissant pour les joueurs est l’AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X, qui succède à l’APU Threadripper 1950X. Le 2950X est une puce 16 cœurs avec 32 threads simultanés, et une enveloppe thermique de 180 W minimum. AMD a augmenté la fréquence d’une génération à l’autre, et a intégré les technologies XFR2 et PBO pour mieux gérer la fréquence turbo en cas de sollicitations. Le 2950X adapte automatiquement sa fréquence par paliers de 25 MHz pour des ajustements plus précis.

Dans l’ensemble, le 2950X est un processeur efficace pour les jeux et les logiciels. AMD a positionné le 2950X de façon attractive, et possède de meilleures performances que l’Intel Core i9-7900X pour le même prix.

La deuxième génération d’APU AMD Ryzen Threadripper est considérablement plus puissante que la précédente. AMD propose pour la première fois des processeurs 32 cœurs, des puces qui étaient jusqu’à maintenant réservées aux serveurs. Ces nouveaux APU, et tout particulièrement le Threadripper 2950X, possèdent un excellent rapport qualité-prix, qui met la pression à Intel.

AMD possède une politique de mise à jour connue, et qui a bonne réputation. Si vous avez déjà une carte-mère X399, alors vous pouvez passer à la dernière génération d’APU Threadripper avec seulement une mise à jour du BIOS. C’est même vrai pour la série d’APU Threadripper 250 X WX.

Ceux qui ne peuvent ou ne veulent pas avoir mois de 16 cœurs seront ravis de l’AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X, surtout grâce à ses performances multithread dans les logiciels optimisés. Intel ne propose pas de CPU comparable à ce prix avec ce niveau de performances, ce qui fait que nous recommandons sans réserve l’AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X.
