The $1,299 HP Omen 15 gives you a laptop that can blend in relatively well in an office setting, but can still serve up great gaming performance. True, it’s not using one of Nvidia’s more powerful GPUs, but it can still deliver solid frame rates depending on the settings. Plus, you get a lovely display, good battery life (for a gaming laptop) and great performance and transfer rates.

If you're in the market for a new gaming laptop, the Ryzen-based HP Omen 15 is a decent place to start. Sure, you are paying a slight premium for the Omen branding, but that gets you a configuration that can handle most games at the medium setting and should be able to run popular titles like Fortnite cranked up. While the Intel variant still lends itself to content creation in a fairly strong capacity, the Ryzen variant falls flat in all aspects of creative needs. This is partly due to the severely limited amount of RAM on board and a display that isn’t bright enough or capable of reproducing the entire sRGB colour space. However, when it comes to gaming, the Omen 15 does not disappoint. When it comes to thermals, the Omen 15 once again impresses. It offers better upgradability than what you’d get in competing machines, so if you’re looking for a purely gaming machine that can double up as your casual daily driver, consider the Omen 15 Ryzen edition. If you expect more, go for a higher tier variant.

Moreover, it can run the most demanding games at their highest settings—while the keyboard deck doesn’t get scorchingly hot either. Its display has great color reproduction and the 144Hz refresh rate further elevates the gaming experience. But that’s not to say the Omen 15 does everything right. Its build quality feels a bit flimsy and the backlight bleed thing gets distracting rather easily. I just hope this issue is confined to our review unit and doesn’t repeat with other units of the HP Omen 15 (2021). Plus, it could’ve seen better battery endurance as well if HP had delivered specifically low-battery performance modes. All in all, if you’re looking for a powerful gaming laptop that can also double as your professional workstation, the HP Omen 15 is a great choice.

Weirdly enough, the graphics driver shows that the RTX 3070 should work at 100W. However, in our tests, it never passed the 80W market, which is a significant difference. Especially considering the 130W TGP of its direct competitors. Don’t get us wrong, you WILL be able to play the latest AAA titles at max settings at 1080p. However, the performance you should expect is more around the ballpark of an RTX 3060 with a 130W TGP. At the end of the day, if gaming is your only (or main) purpose, it would probably be better to go for an ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513, or an MSI GP66 Leopard. However, its low-key design makes it very appealing to content creators, and the great display will surely make designers happy.

Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.
