You don't usually find an OLED display, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD in a laptop that costs less than $1,000. And it comes wrapped in a nice-looking, mostly metal design with a sub-3-pound weight.

EN→FRI had high hopes for the HP OmniBook 5 14 (G1q) when I first used it, and it's awesome to see those hopes met and then some. It's often difficult to get excited about value-driven hardware, but HP did such a fantastic job with balancing this laptop's features, performance, and price. I still like the ASUS Zenbook A14 (2025) I reviewed a little more and consider that the better laptop, but it also costs up to $300 more for similar specs. For just $699.99 at BestBuy.com (easily the best deal), there's really no other laptop that's beating the OmniBook 5 14 (G1q) for sheer value right now. HP delivered the complete package with this machine, with multi-day battery life to boot. It's an excellent companion for casual computing and is guaranteed to enjoy years of new features through Windows updates. I only wish the port selection was better.

Aside from a bit of pricing confusion, this OmniBook is a great pick for basic work and school-related tasks, especially if you want a laptop that's going to easily last all day, making it one of the best laptops for students and remote workers out there.

If, for instance, you spend all your time working in a browser, then you could get a similarly refined experience from the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 (Gen 10) – and that's just £549. And if you don't mind shifting to macOS, there's the £849 MacBook Air to catch your eye. Distractions aside, the OmniBook 5 is a good all-around laptop. If you're looking for a good sub-£1,000 ultraportable, and the software you use runs happily on Windows on ARM systems, then the OmniBook 5's nice OLED display, good ergonomics, and huge battery life may be everything you want. And if, like us, you're easily distracted, the poor GPU performance may actually be something of a productivity boost.

Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: L'adaptateur graphique intégré dont est doté le SoC Snapdragon X Plus à 8 cœurs X1P-42-100. Comparé aux iGPU X1-85 de 3,8 TFLOPS et 4,6 TFLOPS plus rapides, celui-ci ne fonctionne pas seulement à des vitesses d'horloge inférieures, mais dispose également de moins de shaders unifiés, 768 étant le chiffre le plus probable. L'architecture sous-jacente ne serait pas très différente de celle de l'Adreno 730. Quant à ses performances de jeu, elles sont tout juste suffisantes pour les jeux d'avant 2020 à des résolutions telles que la HD 720p avec des paramètres graphiques faibles.
Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD X Plus X1P-42-100: Un système sur puce à architecture ARM relativement abordable destiné à être utilisé dans les ordinateurs portables Windows qui devrait être lancé le 20 mai 2024. Le X1P-42-100 disposerait de 8 cœurs de processeur Oryon (8 cœurs P, 0 cœur E) fonctionnant à une vitesse d'horloge non encore connue d'au moins 3 GHz. Un GPU Adreno de 3,8 TFLOPS, un NPU Hexagon de 45 TOPS, un contrôleur de mémoire LPDDR5x-8448 d'une rapidité impressionnante, un support USB 4.0, un support TB 4 et un support PCIe 4 sont très probablement tous embarqués. Cette puce X Plus n'utilise pas la même puce que les X1P-64-100, X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100, X1E-84-100.
