Le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 est incontestablement la meilleure tablette pliante (ou smartphone dépliant) avec ce format. C'est aussi le seul disponible en France. Loin de nous l'idée de minimiser ses qualités, mais le peu d'évolution par rapport au Z Fold 3 nous rappelle à quel point la concurrence a du bon pour faire bouger les lignes. Le design est vraiment premium, mais la pliure et la caméra sous l'écran sont encore visibles. Les performances sont excellentes, mais n'exploitent pas le plein potentiel de la puce de Qualcomm. Les écrans sont superbes, mais demandent un réglage pour être parfaits. L'interface est très astucieuse, mais certaines applications populaires ne permettent pas d'en profiter pleinement. L'autonomie est très solide, mais la charge très lente. Le Z Fold 4 souffle le chaud et le froid. Il nous a éblouis, souvent, et déçus, parfois. Samsung maitrise son sujet, mais pas encore au point de fournir une expérience utilisateur irréprochable, ce que l'on est en droit d’attendre lorsque l'on dépense 1800 euros dans un smartphone qui, certes, est aussi une petite tablette.

Le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 représente la quatrième génération du smartphone pliable de Samsung. À la façon de l’iPhone 4 de son temps, c’est son moment pour réellement rentrer dans le marché. Ainsi, Samsung se doit de proposer un smartphone accompli, sans les défauts que peuvent présenter une toute nouvelle gamme de produits. Vendu à 1799€ sur le site de Samsung, le Z Fold 4 reste un smartphone réservé à une population aisée. Toutefois, on sent les améliorations, même subtiles, par rapport aux générations précédentes. Le ressenti de l’écran est bon, au même titre que les photos ainsi que les performances. L’autonomie n’est pas excellente, mais reste correcte. Un smartphone très bon donc, mais aussi très haut de gamme.

Le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 n'apporte pas suffisamment de nouveautés par rapport au Z Fold 3. Si vous hésitez entre les deux, profitez des probables baisses de prix de l'ancien modèle. Le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 reste aussi beaucoup trop cher. Il est carrément hors de prix et Samsung doit sérieusement songer à démocratiser cette catégorie de produit qui a désormais une vraie pertinence, une légitimité à exister.

Sommaire Le Galaxy Z Fold 4 est la quatrième version du téléphone de Samsung qui se replie en une petite tablette. Il coûte 1 799€ pour le modèle de base avec 256 Go. Un prix élevé, majoritairement justifié par l'écran pliant de 7,6 pouces. Ce dernier possède un taux de rafraîchissement élevé pour le jeu vidéo, une caméra pour les appels en visio et la prise en charge du stylet S Pen pour écrire et dessiner. Une partie de notre engouement pour le Fold 4 vient de ses dizaines de petites améliorations par rapport au Fold 3. La charnière est un peu plus fine, le téléphone est un peu plus léger, les bords de l'écran sont un peu plus fins, le châssis est un peu plus large, ce qui le rend plus agréable à utiliser lorsqu'il est fermé. La partie logicielle a également gagné en ergonomie, rendant le multitâche plus accessible et facile. Après deux semaines passées à utiliser le Z Fold 4, nous avons eu un coup de cœur et il est devenu notre tablette Android préférée. Mais son tarif est un vrai obstacle. 1 800€ minimum et jusqu’à 2 159€ pour le modèle avec 1 To !

Pour sa quatrième génération du smartphone pliant, Samsung va dans le détail et améliore par petites touches ce qui ne fonctionnait pas correctement sur les précédents modèles. Le Galaxy Z Fold4 semble ainsi très bien parti pour détrôner un précédent modèle qui avait déjà été bien reçu par la presse et les consommateurs. Grâce à une puce ultrapuissante et économe en énergie, le mobile est plus rapide et plus endurant. Et la barre des tâches permet de jongler bien plus facilement entre différentes applications que par le passé. En bref ? Un smartphone pliant bonifié.

Petit à petit, Samsung améliore son smartphone pliant destiné à un usage professionnel. On apprécie la qualité des écrans, la puissance de calcul disponible ainsi que la possibilité d’utiliser un stylet optionnel. Autres points de satisfaction la conformité IPX8, la résistance aux chocs améliorée et l’autonomie que nous jugeons très correcte à défaut d’être excellente. La caméra principale délivre de très belles images fixes ou animées. Et si la caméra frontale de l’écran pliant n’est pas aussi bonne qu’espérée, elle a pour elle de devenir invisible lorsqu’elle n’est pas utilisée. Le Z Fold 4 atteindrait-il donc la perfection ? Pas encore. La pliure de l’écran reste tout de même perceptible sous le doigt et visible dans certaines situations. Gageons que l’évolution technologique saura corriger cela.

Si vous attendiez une révolution, vous serez déçus en découvrant le Galaxy Z Fold4. Cette nouvelle génération ne bouleverse pas les codes de ce marché encore très jeune. Samsung reprend une recette qu’il maîtrise, change quelques ingrédients jusque-là un peu fades (autonomie, qualité photo) et la saupoudre de nouvelles épices (format légèrement revu, quelques nouveautés logicielles). Si le Galaxy Z Fold4 est sans aucun doute le smartphone ultime pour la productivité et le multimédia, il n’est pas encore parfait. Celles et ceux qui ne souhaitent pas manipuler un smartphone trop lourd préfèreront toujours un combo smartphone (dans la poche) + petite tablette (dans le sac). La recharge est encore trop lente, l’autonomie perfectible et les fonctionnalités rendant ce format incontournable n’existent pas encore. À 1 799 euros, le Galaxy Z Fold4 est aussi un smartphone extrêmement cher, réservé à un public pour qui le smartphone est un outil de productivité ou aux geeks. Dans tous les cas de figure, le futur du smartphone reste encore encore réservé aux plus fortunés d’entre nous. Comme un grand cru.

Indubitablement, le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 est un très bon smartphone pliant. C'est-à-dire qu'il est vraiment simple à recommander les yeux fermés si c'est précisément ce format que vous cherchez. Déjà parce qu'il est presque le seul du marché en France, mais aussi parce qu'il est particulièrement bien conçu dans cette optique. En revanche, il s'accompagne encore de petits compromis qu'il faut bien connaître avant de craquer. Ainsi, si le design est raffiné et soigné, il reste lourd et ne se débarrasse pas de la pliure au milieu du grand écran. Les deux dalles Oled offre une qualité au top, mais leur calibration est fantasque, l'expérience logicielle est super bien pensée, mais nécessite plusieurs ajustements de votre part pour bien en profiter. Davantage de développeurs tiers devraient aussi jouer le jeu pour parfaire le téléphone. Enfin, l'autonomie offre une certaine sérénité, mais la charge à 25 W reste trop faible pour de l'ultra haut de gamme. Du reste, la qualité photo et les performances offrent beaucoup de satisfaction.

Massif et résolument destiné à une cible avertie, le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 conserve peu ou prou le bilan du Galaxy Z Fold 3. Il est pourvu de deux beaux écrans — la discrète pliure de sa dalle intérieure n'étant pas vraiment un problème — et assure des performances de haute volée. Son logiciel est adapté à des usages tournés sans doute plus vers la productivité que vers le divertissement. C'est toutefois son design, désormais arrivé à maturité — avant, on l'espère, une refonte complète à la sortie d'un Galaxy Z Fold 5 — qui justifie son tarif élevé. Car s'il améliore la prestation du Z Fold 3 sur le terrain de la photographie et même de l'autonomie, c'est somme toute discrètement, et sans réellement égaler les smartphones monoblocs les plus huppés du marché. Mais si emporter avec soi une tablette pliante impose toujours des compromis, ceux-ci ont le mérite de s'effacer au fil des années, et ce smartphone reste l'un des modèles les plus intéressants pour les professionnels.

Comme le Galaxy Z Flip4, le Galaxy Z Fold4 profite de la dernière puce Qualcomm, un Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 offrant de très bonnes performances et une meilleure efficience pour la consommation d’énergie. Elle est toujours associée à 12 Go de mémoire vive. Lors de notre brève manipulation de l’interface nous avons trouvé que celle-ci répondait vraiment très rapidement. Avec une telle configuration, le mobile peut permettre de jouer à des jeux, même très gourmands en ressources. Parallèlement, Samsung a travaillé avec plusieurs partenaires éditeurs d’applications afin d’optimiser les interfaces notamment des réseaux sociaux comme TikTok ou Instagram, les outils Microsoft mais aussi celles de Facebook, via Meta, et des applications Google. De nouveaux gestes permettent d’organiser les applications entre elles pour en avoir plusieurs affichées simultanément. Et l’une des nouveautés les plus remarquables et qui, à notre avis, change tout, c’est l’intégration de ce que l’on peut appeler une barre des tâches comme on en trouve sous MacOS ou Windows 11.

Last year’s phone defined the formula, and this year’s model stirs in a handful of minor quality of life improvements – all of which make the phone more well-rounded than ever. Except, of course, those slight changes will cost you. Starting at £1,649 for the 256GB model and rising to £2,019 for the 1TB version, this year’s Fold is £50 more expensive than the last. Sure, with a starting price as high as that, this increase is a drop in the ocean, but it certainly doesn’t make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 a more appealing purchase.

Samsung’s latest book-style foldable isn’t rebuilt — it’s refined. It brings key improvements to areas where the cutting-edge device needed them most — namely the cameras and software. Six months after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, it is still the best foldable phone on the market. It has the best software, the best camera, the best availability, and the most features. Although there are some competitors out there, nothing can even hold a candle to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 when it comes to the full foldable phone package. If you’re after a more compact option then the Galaxy Z Flip 4 ($999.99 at Samsung) might be more alluring, but for those that want the biggest and best, the Fold is it. As mentioned earlier, Google and OnePlus will probably launch foldables soon, and they could offer different or possibly even better features when compared to Samsung. In Europe, things are getting even more hotly contested, with contenders from OPPO, Honor, and even Huawei. This all opens up the possibility of buyer’s remorse when you realize you shelled out for a Galaxy Z Fold 4 and now wish you’d invested in something else. The silver lining, though, is that you can get a Galaxy Z Fold 4 on the cheap very easily right now. My advice is this: If money is no object to you, wait to see what Samsung, Google, and OnePlus do this year, but if you’re on a budget, grab a Galaxy Z Fold 4 now. If you’re not made of cash, you probably wouldn’t buy the new 2023 foldables when they launch anyway, so you’ve got nothing to lose and will be very happy with the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4’s battery performance was at the low end of our global ranking, which is usually the case for devices in our Ultra-premium segment. However, the Z Fold4 showed battery performance improvements in all our subscores over its predecessor the Z Fold3 5G. In moderate use, the Z Fold4’s autonomy was better than the Z Fold3 5G. When testing some use cases separately, such as calling and video streaming, the Z Fold4 showed decent autonomy and low discharge currents, meaning that the device has been well-optimized for such usage. However, when the device was tested outside and unfolded to take to photos and videos, the battery drained very quickly. The autonomy when using GPS navigation was low, too. The small 25W charger kept the charging pace slow, and a 5-minute charge only provided 2 hours and 36 minutes of autonomy. In addition, the charge efficiency was low. However, the residual consumption of the charger was well-managed. Wireless charging wasn’t any better and showed very high residual consumption. Compared with other Ultra-premium devices in our database, the Z Fold4’s autonomy was slightly above average, which is decent for a foldable phone.

While the more conservative buyers will find themselves drawn to the smaller, cheaper, and generally more practical Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 reclaims its spot as the most innovative ultra-premium smartphone available to the world at large.

For those used to Samsung’s OneUI user interface and their ecosystem, transferring over to the Galaxy Z Fold4 is as easy as it gets. The Samsung Smart Switch app easily transferred everything including apps and stored messages and texts over to the new phone and there’s relatively little change in terms of the user interface to warrant a look at the help page. While I’ve only enjoyed a scant few days of use, the more efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU seems to noticeably offer improved endurance and standby times along with gratifyingly swift performance. The rear triple camera finally give the Fold series. truly flagship worthy imaging capabilities after giving it a quick whirl around the block in daytime and low light shots. The minor savings in weight aren’t immediately apparent just yet after a few days toting it about but we’ll elaborate on it in more detail in our Galaxy Z Fold4 review in the near future.

Trade-in values are sure to drop a bit following the formal launch, but if you can shave $800 or more off the cost of a Fold 4, I’d say go for it.

At first glance the Galaxy Z Fold 4 isn't particularly different to the outgoing Z Fold 3. But then this isn't really an 'upgraders' phone in my view. Since using the newer Fold for a fortnight I've found the marginally different aspect ratios make both screens – whether the exterior in folded position or interior in unfolded form – altogether more usable, while productivity through Taskbar and multitasking split-screen is better than you'll find on other phones, given the tablet-like unfolded scale. That said, I'm half disappointed there's no integrated S Pen stylus, as was rumoured, while the under-display camera can still be a distraction, and there's always going to be inherent reflection and crease issues with a device such as this. Having said all of that, when you step back and simply marvel at the Z Fold 4 for all its technological amazingness, it's really hard to not be astonished. Just look at it. Overall, Samsung continues to offer the best large-screen folding phone on the market, no doubt, and once you get used to this expansive way of working in Android it could be a total game-changer.

I highly recommend the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It takes a very good smartphone from last year and makes the right improvements to create something that’s bigger than the sum of just those improvements. Ultimately, it’s the phone you could recommend to anybody if you can stomach the price. The new camera is a big improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and if you’ve been disappointed by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 camera, I would recommend upgrading to the Z Fold 4. I personally think the additional cost is worth it, especially if you plan to keep it for two years or more. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also the best phone for getting things done on the go. When I’m in a taxi, on the couch, on a train or even walking down the street, I’m always firing open the Main Screen to jot something down, to tweet while watching something, or even as a Kindle book reader. It’s not the perfect device, but the trade-offs made in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 aren’t big enough to take away from the overall experience. If you want a smartphone that can seemingly do it all, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the phone for you.

For the most part, smartphones are starting to plateau. And there's barely any difference between last year's S22 Ultra versus S21 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro versus iPhone 12 Pro. I've always been someone who loves the gimmicks, and while a folding phone is great for productivity, all-in-all it's one big gimmick. Whether it's one that's worth an added $1,000 outright, definitely depends on the person. But it's a gimmick that excites me, and if I were to buy a phone right now this would definitely be the one -- if I had that $2,269 to spend on a phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a fine evolution of the best foldable phone. And there are times I can see myself ditching my current handset for this beast. It can multitask like no other phone, and I can simply get more done in less time on the latest Fold versus my iPhone. Samsung deserves credit (along with Google) for evolving the software experience with things like the taskbar, better drag and drop support and more optimized apps for Flex mode and larger screens in general. The camera system is especially good this time around the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the $1,799 price remains a huge hurdle for adoption, and while the design has improved this is still the largest and heaviest phone around. So you'll have to be willing to deal with these two trade-offs if you want to join the foldable revolution and get PC-like power in your pocket. Stay tuned for our test results and final rating.

So we have another Galaxy Z Fold that is a slight improvement on the last, but perhaps not quite the improvement that cements foldables as the replacements for actual smartphones. In essence, this is good, but it could be better. The cameras are better, but they still lack the sparkle of the S-series. The handset is lighter but still feels unwieldy to hold. And, charging speeds are nowhere near speedy enough. These aren’t necessarily deal breakers, but they should definitely be considered when parting with almost £1,500. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 might be the best foldable around, but it's still not even the best smartphone Samsung has to offer.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are the best foldables around, but more importantly, they are great phones on their own. You could argue that some of their rivals are better in one way or another, but the reality is that there isn't a more daily-driver-ready foldable out there, nor one as readily available as Samsung's Z series. And now in their fourth generation, the Galaxy Z series is that much better in the most important ways. Making the cameras better was long overdue and Samsung did it. We hoped for an autofocusing ultrawide camera, but the reality is that most people wouldn't notice a difference. We could also wish for a periscope zoom on the Galaxy Z Fold4, but that would put the Galaxy S22 Ultra in too much danger, and once again, most people probably wouldn't notice or at least care as much. Samsung made the folding phone a few years ago and now it's making it as good as the regular one, one step at a time. Last year we got durability and the S Pen, this year we got better cameras and small refinements that go a long way in the course of 12 months of using a phone.

That’s about all there is to cover with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. There’s not much to talk about, with the 2022 model coming across as more of an inter-generational upgrade than a substantial leap forward. However, since the previous Fold 3 was the first foldable to go properly mainstream, I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. The IPX8 waterproofing remains a big bonus, and the design, despite the imitations coming thick and fast from other manufacturers, still can’t be matched. Last year’s phone set the formula, and this year’s model is simply cementing things with a handful of minor quality of life improvements – all of which makes the phone more well-rounded than ever. Except, of course, those slight changes will cost you. Starting at £1,649 for the 256GB model and rising to £2,019 for the 1TB version, this year’s Fold is £50 more expensive than the last. Sure, with a starting price as high as that, this increase is a drop in the ocean, but it certainly doesn’t make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 a more appealing purchase.

Qualcomm Adreno 730:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm affirme qu'elle est 30 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 660 du SoC Snapdragon 888. Pour Android, elle devrait être l'une des cartes graphiques les plus rapides fin 2021.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8+ Gen 1:

SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones, introduit fin 2021 et fabriqué en 4 nm chez TSMC. Il intègre un "Prime Core" basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X2 cadencée jusqu'à 3,2 GHz. Trois autres cœurs de performance sont basés sur l'A710 mais cadencés jusqu'à 2,5 GHz. En outre, quatre cœurs d'économie d'énergie sont intégrés, basés sur l'architecture ARM Cortex-A510 et cadencés jusqu'à 1,8 GHz. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 6e, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5 jusqu'à 3 200 MHz. La 5G est désormais incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X65. Par rapport à la version non plus, le 8+ Gen 1 offre un Prime Core cadencé à 200 MHz de plus et un GPU cadencé à 10% de plus. De plus, elle est désormais produite par TSMC et non plus par Samsung.
