Nvidia a remporté un indéniable succès avec le lancement de sa gamme Ampere, vu la vitesse à laquelle la première série de cartes disponibles a été vendue dès leur disponibilité. Même si la firme vend la RTX 3080 comme étant la carte conçue pour le jeu, l'ultime carte est la RTX 3090. Avec des spécifications impressionnantes, et des performances qui montrent un véritable gain par rapport à la Titan RTX, à la fois dans les tests classiques et dans les jeux, la RTX 3090 semble à la hauteur. Mais est-elle pour tout le monde ?

Même d'après Nvidia, la RTX 3090 cible avant tout les créatifs qui peuvent profiter des 24 Go de VRAM disponibles. Cela dit, nous constatons certaines baisses de performances dans des logiciels industriels, comme le montre SPECviewperf. Il faut voir si la situation s'améliorera avec des mises à jour à venir. Nvidia n'a pas encore officialisé la ligne Quadro, mais la RTX 3090 semble vraiment être une alternative correcte et pas trop chère pour l'instant, si l'on retrouve les tendances antérieures en matière de prix.

Les créatifs qui travaillent en 8K trouveront la Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 adaptée à leurs besoins, tout comme ceux qui veulent tirer le maximum d'images de leur PC en 4K avec des réglages élevés ou ultra. Les joueurs classiques seront mieux servis pas d'autres cartes.

Il semblerait que l'on ait ici un plafond de performances avec la plupart des moteurs de jeux actuels. Notre test de la RTX 3080 est en cours, mais il semblerait que certains chiffres déjà publiés montrent que les joueurs seront mieux servis par la RTX 3080, avec un meilleur ratio performances / prix. Cela dit, la RTX 3090 est une carte qui permet de jouer en 8K sans souci, au même prix qu'une RTX 2080 Ti à son lancement. Les joueurs qui veulent afficher des taux d'image élevés en 4K avec des réglages élevés voir Ultra pourraient faire un investissement qui vaut le coup avec la RTX 3090. Les rumeurs récentes annonçant une disponibilité probable d'une RTX 3080 avec 20 Go de RAM indique que l'augmentation de VRAM est une vraie évolution des GPU.

Notre Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity se comporte admirablement dans tous les tests, sans sourciller. Le refroidissement est excellent, et les ventilateurs ne sont pas trop bruyants, même en cas de sollicitations. Zotac pourrait corriger quelques détails, tels l'emplacement du connecteur de l'alimentation ou l'utilisation d'une plaque plus rigide. Cela mis à part, la carte semble excellente, et s'avère même plus économe en place que la Founders Edition avec ses trois ports. Nous pensons que la Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity est une bonne solution si vous décidez de craquer pour la RTX 3090...

Une fois de plus, il semble que Nvidia ait une fois de plus placé la barre haute avec la GeForce RTX 3090. Les plans d'AMD avec le RDNA2 sont toujours vagues, si ce n'est un coup d'oeil sur l'une des cartes la semaine dernière, et la firme va devoir faire des miracles si elle cherche à concurrencer directement la RTX 3090.
