Avec son nouveau G73, Asus vise clairement l'amoureux des portables pour le jeu, et plus particulièrement les fans de la marque Alienware, notamment grâce au Design typé avion furtif. Nous n'allons pas passer des heures sur les performances, qui sont tout simplement excellentes, surtout pour un engin qui peut fonctionner sur batterie. Il reste cependant dommage que la HD 5870M ne soit en réalité qu'une HD 5770 dégonflée, mais elle permettra malgré tout de jouer à tous les jeux dans la résolution native de l'écran. De plus la machine est bien aidée par une bonne dalle, cependant bright et aux angles de vision étroits, des périphériques de saisie de qualité, un excellent son et un niveau sonore qui reste plus qu'acceptable pour la catégorie. Il y a même un lecteur Blu-Ray afin de profiter du 1920 x 1080 de la dalle avec quelques bons films.
Reste que le Design anguleux et la finition noire sont très austères et que les HDD ne se montrent pas à la hauteur du reste de la configuration, même si Asus semble tout simplement avoir préféré le stockage avec 1 To disponible. Enfin, il y a le tarif, 1799 € tout de même, ce qui reste malgré tout compétitif, car la concurrence est certes moins chère, mais elle n'intègre pas 8 Go de RAM, ni même de lecteur Blu-Ray. Au pire, vous pouvez vous rabattre sur le modèle 6 Go/Graveur de DVD, que l’on trouve à moins de 1500 € et qui sera tout aussi performant.

It combines attractive looks and superior gaming performance with an ambitious price point that leaves the competitive offerings a little flat. Though we were surprised to find that Asus didn't bundle any movie player software for the Blu-ray drive, we're hoping the bundle will include that in future SKUs of the product. And battery life could be improved upon, along with perhaps an SSD option for the top of the line model. But in our opinion, this product is the sweet spot for enthusiasts who want the most laptop for their moolah, without having to take on a second mortgage.

Advising whether or not you should buy this laptop is tricky – not least because Asus has supplied us with an arguably over-specced version. The 8GB of RAM and the pair of 500GB hard drives increase the price without adding much value. We also would have liked to see whether or not a dual-core Core i7-620M would have been a better bet for gaming too, as this CPU runs at a much higher frequency than the quad-core CPU Asus specified.

One year later, the G73 is still kicking, but I have to say that I’m ready for something new. Familiarity may not be breeding contempt yet, but that love at first sight feeling is definitely fading. If you purchased the original G73JH, there’s no real reason to upgrade to the G73SW for games. For CPU-intensive applications, Sandy Bridge is still an awesome upgrade from Clarksfield, but I’ve seen other SNB designs that impress me more in some areas.

Nous le savions déjà, la série G73 d'Asus se veut performante et elle l'est. Sans la 3D activée, nous n'avons pas grand chose à reprocher à cette machine au look furtif, qui distille des bonnes performances et qui permettra de jouer sans problème et dans un silence relatif, à tous les jeux disponibles sur le marché. De plus, il sera possible de gouter aux joies du Blu Ray grâce au lecteur présent de base, et de stocker des monceaux d'informations sur le To disponible. Cependant, il est dommage que ce To ne soit pas configuré en RAID 0 afin de faire parler un peu plus la poudre et les SSD des Momentus XT.

Also, a dedicated depth control button for the 3D would have been nice since not all games or videos work well at one setting. If you are in the market for the ultimate gaming notebook and have the budget then look no further, the G73JW should be right on the top of your list.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, une multinationale taïwanaise, produit des cartes mères, des cartes graphiques, des lecteurs optiques, des PDA, des moniteurs d'ordinateur, des ordinateurs portables, des serveurs, des produits de réseau, les téléphones mobiles, des boîtiers d'ordinateurs, des composants informatiques, et des systèmes de refroidissement d’ordinateur. La société a dégagé des revenus en 2007 atteignant US $ 6,9 milliards. ASUS a également produit des composants pour d'autres fabricants. L'Eee PC a ouvert le boom des netbooks en 2008.
Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870: Une carte graphique haut de gamme qui supporte DirectX 11 et basé sur une HD5770 de bureau. Mais à cause de la largeur de la bande passante de seulement 128 Bits la GDDR5 voit sa puissance se faire étrangler par la taille de la bande passante.

Intel Core i5:
520M: Le Core i5-520M n'as que 3 Mo de cache L3 (comparé au I7-640M) et une fréquence de 2.4 à 2.93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Avec l'Hyperthreading, 4 cores sont gérés simultanément. La carte graphique intégrée (GMA HD 3150) et la RAM DDR3 sont dans le package.
Intel Core i7:
720QM: Le Core i7-720QM est le Core i7 Quad Core de 2009 le plus lent: entre 1.6 et 2.8 GHz (grâce au mode Turbo). Il a l'avantage sur les logiciels optimisés pour plusieurs processeurs mais un peu moins bon pour les application mono core. Comparé aux autres Core i7 mobile, le 720QM ne possède que 6Mo de cache L3.
920XM: Le plus rapide des Core i7 de 2009 mais avec un TDP de 55 Watt, c'est un gourmand. Avec le mode Turbo, Le CPU monte vite à 3.2 GHz. Avec le label "Extreme", les possibilités d'overclocking sont laissées auvertes.
740QM:
Le Core i7-740QM est un CPU haut de gamme pour portables (en 2010) avec un fréquence de base faible et un Turbo Boost maximum de 2.93 GHz (pour un seul coeur). Il a donc les avantages du monocore avec sa fréquence élevée et les avantages des quadcores lents pour els applications de montage vidéo par exemple. Comparé& aux Core i7 mobile, le 740QM ne possède que 6Mo de cache L3.
2630QM:
Puissant Quad-core avec une architecture Sandy Bridge architecture avec une carte graphique intégrée et de la RAM dual-channel DDR3.
