Like a lot of larger laptops, the Series 7 Chronos is an awkward trade-off between power and portability. At £1,100 the Series 7 is an expensive laptop that is not portable or powerful enough. It didn't perform as well as the Novatech nSpire 2760, which is faster and cheaper at around £800, although that laptop is even heavier, has a lower resolution screen and a smaller hard disk.

At a shade under a grand, the 700Z is well worth a look. If you’re after a decent-looking, lightweight 15-incher, the next best place to looks is the likes of Apple’s 15in MacBook Pro, for which you’ll pay nearly £600 more, and which comes with less RAM and a smaller hard disk. Aside from the over-ambitious trackpad, there’s an awful lot to like here.

It has much of the same technology inside, and borrows heavily in certain design cues, but using cheaper materials to allow a lower price. Where the entry-level 15in MacBook Pro costs a handsome £1549, the Samsung can be had for £900. The Samsung Series 7 Chronos offers plenty of power and value. For $1,100 you get the same specs as the 15" MacBook Pro with Apple's resolution upgrade for nearly half the price. In fact, we prefer the Chronos' keyboard backlighting and Windows optimized software (for those of you who are looking for Windows rather than Mac OS X). The Samsung is a bit lighter than the competitors and it's quite thin and highly portable. Battery life is very good, the fan is quiet and the keyboard is top notch once you get used to the offset design. But the TN panel, though bright and matte, just doesn't hold a candle to the MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 15z with the 1080p WLED option or the late 2011 HP Envy 15 with its IPS display. Viewing angles, particularly top-bottom are poor and contrast can't match these competitors.

We have yet to see any officially branded 17-inch ultrabooks, but I suspect the Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z7CH would be an excellent approximation of one. At first glance, at least, this thin desktop replacement seems like it has everything going for it. A high-end big-screen multimedia laptop that's pretty portable (for a desktop replacement), the Samsung Series 7 Chronos is what we imagine a 17-inch ultrabook would look like.

With a stunning touchscreen, best-in-class graphics performance and a long-lasting battery, it’s easy to forgive the Series 7 Ultra’s minor flaws. Those after the lightest possible Ultrabook would do well to consider Sony’s featherweight VAIO Pro 13 instead, but if you can live with a few extra grams in your bag, the Series 7 Ultra is a delight.

Samsung: Le groupe Samsung est le plus grand conglomérat sud-coréen et a été fondé en 1938. Le groupe Samsung employait 489 000 personnes en 2014 et est l'une des plus grandes entreprises au monde en termes de chiffre d'affaires et de force de marché. Le nom Samsung signifie "Trois étoiles" en coréen et représente les trois fils du fondateur de l'entreprise. L'entreprise a été fondée en 1938 en tant qu'épicerie. Avec sa filiale Samsung Electronics, fondée en 1969, Samsung s'est lancé très tôt dans la production d'articles électrotechniques, en se concentrant sur l'électronique grand public et l'électroménager. Les autres branches dans lesquelles la grande entreprise est active comprennent la construction mécanique, l'automobile (Hyundai), l'assurance, le commerce de gros, l'immobilier et les loisirs. Samsung fabrique une large gamme de produits électroniques, notamment des smartphones, des téléviseurs, des appareils électroménagers et des semi-conducteurs. La gamme de smartphones Galaxy de la société est l'une des plus populaires au monde. Samsung est également un acteur majeur de l'industrie des semi-conducteurs, fabriquant des puces de mémoire et des processeurs pour de nombreux autres fabricants d'électronique.
Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.
Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): Carte graphique intégrée aux processeurs de la gamme Sandy Bridge Pentium et Celeron. Comma la version de bureau de la HD Graphics 2000 mais loin de la version Arrandale.
Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.
AMD Radeon HD 6750M:
AMD Radeon HD 6970M:
Deux cartes graphiques HD 6970M en mode Crossfire (parfois aussi appelées 6970M X2). Les performances de jeu sont généralement un peu plus faibles que celles d'un système Nvidia SLI similaire en raison d'une prise en charge des pilotes comparativement moins bonne.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M: Deux GeForce GTX 675M (GF114 Fermi) en mode SLI. A cause de la consommation maximum d'énergie de 2x 100 Watt sur les deux cartes MXM, la GTX675M SLI ne se trouvera que dans des portables imposants.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: Un GPU de milieu de gamme et la GeForce GT la plus puissante de la série 600M
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M: Carte graphique de moyenne gamme de la série GeForce GTX 600M, basée sur l'architecture Kepler gravée en 28nm (GK107).
AMD Radeon HD 8870M: Basée sur la même puce que la Radeon HD 7870M précédente.
AMD Radeon HD 7870M:
Carte graphique performante de la série 7800M basée sur l'architecture GNC et fabriqué en 28nm.
AMD Radeon HD 8770M:
GPU de moyenne gamme basé sur l'architecture GCN.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M SLI: Configuration SLI haut de gamme avec deux GeForce GTX 650M, basées sur l'architecture Kepler et gravées en 28nm.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M: Plusieurs modèles avec une puce Fermi différente. Spécifiquement, on retrouve la GT 630M avec les variantes GF108/GF106/GF116, mais en gros on peut dire que cette carte est une GeForce GT 540M ou une 555M. Une variante GF117 existe aussi, mais gravée en 28nm donc avec une consommation moindre.
AMD Radeon HD 8850M: Carte graphique haute performance basée sur la même puce que la HD 7850M
La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).
AMD Radeon HD 6490M:
GPU d'entrée de gamme basé sur la plateforme Seymore XT avec un support GDDR5. La puce est cadencée à 700-750 avec de la GDDR5 et 800 avec de la DDR3.
Intel HD Graphics 4000:
Carte graphique intégrée aux processeurs de la génération Ivy Bridge. Possède des fréquences différentes selon les processeurs (du ULV au quad core de bureau) et donc des performances différentes.
AMD Radeon HD 8570M: Carte graphique bas de gamme basée sur l'architecture GCN Mars. Le GPU est proche de la Radeon HD 8590M, mais avec de la VRAM DDR3 plus lente et une interface mémoire 64-Bits.
AMD Radeon HD 8550M: Entrée de gamme, basée sur la puce Mars de l'architecture GCN. Adossée à de la mémoire vidéo DDR3 interfacée sur une largeur de bande mémoire de 64-bit.

2430M: Processeur Dual-core basé sur l'architecture Sandy Bridge avec un GPU et un contrôleur mémoire intégré. Le CPU est cadencé à 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.7-3 GHz) et le GPU à 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
2450M: Processeur Dual-core basé sur l'architecture Sandy Bridge avec un GPU et un contrôleur mémoire intégré. Le CPU est cadencé à 2.5 Ghz (Turbo Boost 2.8-3.1 GHz) et le GPU est à 650 Mhz (1300 Mhz Turbo).
3210M:
Puissant processeur Ivy Bridge dual Core, avec une carte graphique HD 4000 intégrée, avec une cadence de 2.5 - 3.1 GHz
3337U: Processeur Ivy-Bridge ULV du premier trimestre 2013. Avec une cadence de 1.8 - 2.7 GHz et un GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1100 MHz). Le TDP fait 17 W.
3230M: Processeur Dual Core véloce de la génération Ivy-Bridge cadencé entre 2,6 et 3,2 GHz intégrant un circuit graphique HD 4000.
