The Swift 5 is a demonstration of what Acer does best – good set of features and great specs at a relatively affordable price. The Swift 5 has almost none of the drawbacks a standard ultrabook would have. The build quality is good, the choice of materials give it a bit of a premium feel while the overall portability of the chassis is excellent. The input devices are a mixed bag for us, though, because the keyboard is slightly mushy and has short key travel. At least the touchpad compensates for the lacking keyboard.

If weight is an important factor in your buying decision, it will be really hard to beat the Swift 5. Acer has taken a solid ultraportable laptop and made it even better with this 2019 upgrade, boosting the performance, removing a couple of annoying quirks and adding in WiFi 6 future-proofing. As a result, this is a great all-round device for students, professionals and everyone else who hits the road most days of the week. Given the very respectable asking price, this all-new Swift definitely gets my blessing.

Honestly the only aspect of the Nitro 5 that gives me pause is longevity. Look at that Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark again: The GTX 1650 struggles with a four-year-old game. You’re definitely not going to max out most of 2019’s biggest releases, and it’s only going to get worse from here. On the other hand, it’s about $800. Would I recommend saving up an extra $150 to $200 for Acer’s beefier Predator Helios 300, reviewed in July? Yes, absolutely. But if you simply can’t, or if you plan to buy a cheaper laptop and upgrade more often, then the Nitro 5 is a respectable entry-level machine. The build quality far surpasses what I’d expect from a laptop this cheap, and the internals are “good enough,” for what that’s worth.

The Swift was a little lighter though, so could be a better option for portability, though this means less cooling capacity, so less performance when under heavy load. Overall, I thought the Acer Swift 5 was fine, it’s a nice little laptop that I had no trouble using, it’s just that nothing in particular stood out to me as being amazing, or bad for that matter, it just seems a little pricey to me, but that’s typically the case with smaller and lighter weight machines like this.

So these are a couple of things that I like about the Swift 5 so far. Compared with my current Swift 3 laptop, I would say that the former is a pretty big improvement especially for the Antimicrobial display which is also a touchscreen with Corning® Gorilla® Glass. In terms of price tags, the 8GB variant is RM3999 whereas the 16GB variant is RM4999.

Acer has banished all the significant gremlins from its previous generation Swift 5 machines and that makes the new machine a clear recommendation. The keyboard layout still presents some issues but you will probably get used to them in time. Otherwise, it is small, light, powerful and stylish, has ports aplenty and very solid battery life – and for the price, it’s pretty good value. It's not better than the new MacBook Air but it does offer Windows users an alternative for which no excuses need to be made.

L'Acer Swift 5 2022 est très proche d'être excellent. Mais dans un marché toujours plus compétitif, il oublie de proposer les petits détails qui font toute la différence. L'ultrabook sort du lot avec un design qui n'appartient vraiment qu'à lui, et qui est superbement bien construit. L'intégration de l'Intel Core i7-1260P lui offre toutes les performances que l'on attend sur cette catégorie, qui sont d'autant plus appréciables que son système de refroidissement est excellent. Et son autonomie de 10 heures le met dans la parfaite moyenne. Mais... Son écran ne dépasse pas les 60 Hz et l'espace sRGB. Et puis, son pavé tactile reste dans les standards d'il y a quelques années maintenant, soit assez petit. Acer ne fait rien pour faciliter l'usage de l'utilisateur et la personnalisation de son ordinateur sur l'aspect logiciel. Par contre, il n'hésite pas à préinstaller des kilos de logiciels publicitaires qui envoient des tonnes de notifications, à désinstaller promptement. Au bout, il manque donc de ces petites attentions poussées qui font d'un ultrabook haut de gamme un ultrabook haut de gamme.

However, the ASUS doesn’t perform quite as well, runs noisier and warmer, and has a smaller 512GB SSD. It’s also chunkier and heavier. The ZenBook is great if you are on a tight budget, but the Swift 5's premium is well justified. Furthermore, Acer offers a more affordable variant that comes with a Core i5-1240P processor but still with 16GB of memory and 1TB SSD for S$2,198. Ultimately, however, both the Acer and ASUS are excellent notebooks that cater to slightly different users. That said, this is easily the best Swift 5 that Acer has made yet and one of the most bang for buck ultraportable notebooks you can buy.

Acer made a complete redesign of this laptop. From the grounds up. It has changed the appearance of the Swift 5, as well as the material it uses. By swapping magnesium for aluminum, the brand manages to cut costs, and make the building process faster and more precise thanks to the CNC technology. This results in a pretty strong chassis. However, the lid pops in a weird way when you try to twist it. On the bright side, there is a Full HD Web camera with a bunch of software enhancements. Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T)’s WQXGA IPS display is touch-enabled and has a Corning Gorilla Glass cover with Antimicrobial treatment. In addition, it features comfortable viewing angles, a very high maximum brightness, and a very good contrast ratio. We measured a full sRGB color coverage and didn’t detect PWM use across the entire brightness range.

Test Acer Swift 5 (2022) : un ultraportable qui progresse autant qu’il régresse

Dans sa version 2022, le Swift 5 progresse malheureusement autant qu’il régresse. Ce qu’il gagne en qualité d’affichage et en performances, il le perd en silence et en autonomie. Cette nouvelle version prend ainsi les traits d’un produit qui aurait pu (ou dû) mieux faire pour parvenir à enterrer l’ancien modèle. En l’état, on repense souvent à son prédécesseur avec une certaine nostalgie. Car, malgré ses défauts (en grande partie corrigés), le Swift 5 2021 était plus léger, plus endurant et globalement plus silencieux. Des qualités très importantes pour un ultraportable, qu’Acer a cette année un peu trop escamotées selon nous. Cela dit, difficile de gâcher notre plaisir face à un appareil puissant, plus élégant encore que par le passé, doté d’un excellent écran et débarrassé de son ancienne prise d’alimentation (dépassée et trop fragile). Le Swift 5 2022 nous gratifie en outre d’un clavier de haute volée et d’une webcam convaincante. Il coche donc beaucoup de cases, mais sans toutefois convaincre totalement sur l’autonomie, le silence ou l’encombrement. Espérons enfin qu’Acer se calmera à l’avenir sur les bloatwares qui entachent l’expérience au premier démarrage et contraignent l’utilisateur à des désinstallations fastidieuses durant les premières minutes d’utilisation.

However, the ASUS doesn’t perform quite as well, runs noisier and warmer, and has a smaller 512GB SSD. It’s also chunkier and heavier. The ZenBook is great if you are on a tight budget, but the Swift 5's premium is well justified. Furthermore, Acer offers a more affordable variant that comes with a Core i5-1240P processor but still with 16GB of memory and 1TB SSD for S$2,198. Ultimately, however, both the Acer and ASUS are excellent notebooks that cater to slightly different users. That said, this is easily the best Swift 5 that Acer has made yet and one of the most bang for buck ultraportable notebooks you can buy.

Design maîtrisé, écran bien calibré, puissance appréciable et autonomie correcte, il remplit un à un tous les critères du bon petit ultra-portable. Toutefois, on pourrait regretter un manque de relief, de folie même, dans la proposition. Pas de fonctionnalités phares ou de technologies révolutionnaires, par exemple, mais PC qui mise sur un classicisme absolu et assumé. Mission accomplie, donc, car le Swift 5 reste un excellent produit.

En 1976, la société a été fondée à Taïwan sous le nom de Multitech et a été rebaptisée Acer ou Acer Group en 1987. La gamme de produits comprend, par exemple, des ordinateurs portables, des tablettes, des smartphones, des ordinateurs de bureau, des moniteurs, des téléviseurs et des périphériques informatiques. Depuis 2007, le groupe a fusionné avec Gateway Inc. et Packard Bell, qui commercialisent également leurs propres gammes de produits pour ordinateurs portables.
