Trahi par son processeur Core i5 ! Cet Alienware 13 nous a brisé le cœur. Avec sa bonne bouille, son clavier hyper agréable et son excellent écran, nous étions prêts à lui donner une très bonne note. Malheureusement, côté performances en jeu, ce n’est pas ça du tout ! Et comme nous ne jouons pas qu’à DoTA 2 ou Counter Strike, il nous faut une machine davantage tournée vers l’avenir et donc, avec plus de puissance sous le capot. Reste que le prix de 1300 euros est honnête au regard de la finition et des composants. Quant au Graphics Amplifier, en l’état, nous ne sommes pas du tout convaincus. 250 euros pour un boîtier vide auquel il faut adjoindre une carte haut de gamme à plus de 350 euros dont les performances sont bridées par l'interface du boîtier : très peu pour nous.

La première mouture de l’Alienware 13 avait eu la note de 3 étoiles et cette seconde occurrence ne fait pas mieux. Impossible de mettre plus car la machine est trop déséquilibrée sur le plan du gaming pur. En revanche, c’est une belle et bonne machine de voyage, endurante, qui permet de tout faire et, surtout de s’amuser sur des titres peu gourmands et plébiscités en LAN Party. Pour les titres AAA, il est bien évidemment possible de les faire tourner à fond quitte à savamment doser les détails voire réduire la définition de l’image pour en profiter au mieux.

You’d probably expect top-notch performance in a tiny 13-inch form factor with the label Alienware on it and you are probably right to do so but in reality, the Alienware 13 is everything but a gaming powerhouse. Yes, we are once again met with impeccable build quality with excellent choice of materials – typically for an Alienware product – slightly bulky and a bit hefty for a 13-incher but nothing too alarming, especially for a gaming machine that is. We are still pretty impressed by the horsepower, storage options, and battery that the engineers were able to stick inside the small chassis. For example, you can get a hold of two M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD slots along with a 51Wh battery that will last for nearly a day with normal usage. That’s more than some other premium notebooks and ultrabooks can offer. And to be honest, that was the last thing we were expecting from a gaming-oriented notebook. Oh, and the touchpad and keyboard are pretty comfortable as well.

That’s amazing for a 5-pound notebook, and though you’ll want a set of headphones to block the fan noise, this notebook is an extremely competent mobile battle station. At $2,099, it’s expensive, but we’d rather have this than one of the monstrosities that usually populate this product category. We have nothing against ultimate firepower, obviously, but we really like the 13’s balance of power, gaming prowess, and portability. That’s a difficult balance to achieve, but Alienware has hit the nail on the head this time around.

We tossed a few runs of Gears Of War 4 over resolution just for kicks and the Alienware 13 kicked it up a notch there too, with 60 fps performance at High image quality settings at a 1080p resolution. Incidentally, the machine also scored a 7.1 on the SteamVR performance test, showing it was also "VR Ready." Stay tuned in the days ahead as we step through the rest of the design, software and benchmark details of the Alienware 13 R3. For now, we're going back to work, gaming. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it.

It's a little tough, at the moment, to judge the Alienware 13's value compared to its competition, because when we wrote this, there were no other 13-inch, GTX 1060-based gaming laptops available (at least that we could find on Newegg.com). There was a 14-inch Aorus X3 Plus v6-PC3K4D with GTX 1060 graphics ready for pre-order when we wrote this. It purports to sport a higher-resolution (3,800x1,800-pixel) screen, and it is priced at $100 less. But that high-resolution screen is a poor fit for the abilities of the GTX 1060 graphics. We'd gladly pay $100 more for the privilege of gaming (and working) on the gorgeous OLED screen of the Alienware 13.

When friends come to me asking for a laptop recommendation, I usually try to lead them through a process of figuring out what features they need, what size they want and what fits in their budget before offering them a short list of different options from different manufacturers. When they don't feel like doing the work, however, I usually shrug and tell them to look at Alienware. There's a reason for that. Dell's gaming brand has a history of making well-built gaming machines with great design and excellent performance that are a joy to use. The Alienware 13 is no exception. If you're overwhelmed by the dizzying array of choices available to you as a PC gamer but still want to be sure you're getting a high-quality machine, Alienware's latest won't let you down.

Alienware:
Alienware a été fondée aux États-Unis en 1996. Le siège européen est situé en Irlande. Alienware fait partie du groupe Dell depuis 2006. La gamme de produits se concentre principalement sur les ordinateurs portables et les ordinateurs de bureau de jeu, qui sont développés et fabriqués par Dell. La marque est un design légèrement futuriste avec un Alien comme logo. De plus, des postes de travail pour les clients privés et professionnels sont vendus.
Comme pour toutes les marques, il y a aussi quelques points de critique avec Alienware. Certains clients se sont plaints des prix élevés des produits, tandis que d'autres ont critiqué la qualité des services à la clientèle. Des problèmes de fiabilité et de durabilité de certains produits Alienware ont également été signalés. Cependant, de nombreux clients ont également eu des expériences positives avec la marque et apprécient les puissants ordinateurs de jeu.
Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile:
La GTX 1060 pour ordinateur portable est basée sur la puce GP106 et intègre 1280 unités de calcul shaders. Par rapport à la version destinée aux PC de bureau, les fréquences ont été légèrement revues à la baisse. Les jeux devraient être fluides en Full HD avec les détails au maximum.

Processeur dual-core ULV Ultra Basse Tension basé sur l'architecture Broadwell pour ordinateur portable et Ultrabook. Il offre une puce graphique intégrée HD Graphics 5500. Le processeur est gravé selon une lithographie d'une finesse de 14 nm.
6500U:
Processeur dual-core basé sur l'architecture Skylake pour ordinateurs portables et Ultrabooks. Il offre une puce graphique intégrée HD Graphics 520. Le processeur est gravé selon une lithographie d'une finesse de 14 nm.
6700HQ:
