Il y a quelques semaines à peine, Oppo dévoilait son premier smartphone pliant, le Find N. Un modèle que nous avons d’ores et déjà eu l’occasion de prendre en main, dans le cadre d’une séance organisée par le fabricant. Et même si ce Find N n’est pas destiné au marché européen, il reste intéressant de se pencher dessus dans la mesure où il offre une vision claire de la direction prise par Oppo pour ses smartphones pliants. Prise en main de l’Oppo Find N, un vrai format 2 en 1 à l’épreuve du quotidien

L’Oppo Find N est le premier smartphone pliant du constructeur chinois et pour une première fois, on est impressionné du résultat. Alors oui, Samsung avait déjà quelque peu débroussaillé le terrain mais Oppo aurait pu complètement se planter. C’est déjà arrivé avec d’autres constructeurs et heureusement pour nous, l’Oppo Find N s’annonce excellent. Son format replié similaire à un smartphone classique promet un vrai 2-en-1 que certains utilisateurs de Samsung Galaxy Z Fold recherchaient depuis le début et qu’ils n’avaient pas trouvé. Au final, ce n’est clairement pas une révolution en 2022 mais Oppo a su prendre en compte les remarques des premiers utilisateurs et proposer une vision réaliste de ce que pouvaient attendre les utilisateurs potentiels. Les premières impressions sont très bonnes avec cet Oppo Find N et on est impatient de voir son officialisation en France pour le tester.

L’Oppo Find N est une initiative intéressante pour se poser en alternative aux smartphones pliables de Samsung et des constructeurs qui ont adopté une approche très similaire à celle du Sud-Coréen. En effet, miser sur un format très compact lorsque le téléphone est replié est une stratégie qui peut s’avérer payante auprès d’un public lassé des modèles très grands qui se sont imposés sur le marché mobile. Ce public existe et s’était clairement manifesté lorsque nous avions sollicité notre lectorat sur le sujet des petits smartphones. Attention cela dit, le risque reste assez important. Malgré une longue résistance, Sony a fini par abandonner sa gamme Xperia Compact il y a quelques années. Plus récemment, il se murmure qu’Apple ne sortirait pas d’iPhone 14 mini en 2022, à cause de résultats de vente décevants sur ce segment. C’est donc un grand oui pour ce petit Oppo Find N qui a des armes efficaces pour faire plier ses concurrents comme David a pu le faire contre Goliath. Restons cependant attentifs et prudents sur son succès commercial.

The display on the Oppo Find N, Oppo’s first foldable smartphone, provided a mixed screen experience. We tested the display in its unfolded state and found that the screen’s brightness was best adapted to indoor use. When taken outdoors, however, the screen’s brightness was unable to go beyond 600 nits (compared with some other current foldable phones that can reach 1,000 nits), making the contents hard to read. The screen also reflected too much ambient light, further affecting readability when outdoors. Otherwise, the display showed smooth interactions in all tested use cases — when gaming, surfing the web, and viewing the gallery, with well-adapted brightness levels for indoor use. The Oppo Find N only displays pictures using the wider Display-P3 color gamut, which tends to give sRGB photos a more saturated look. But the screen’s colors were generally accurate and consistent when viewing photos. The experience, however, was not quite the same when watching videos. Colors tended to be oversaturated, contrast was too strong, and brightness levels were much too low to provide a satisfying video-watching experience.

If, for whatever reason, the Find N forever stays confined to China, we're hoping Oppo keeps this form factor for its second-gen foldable. We also hope it will finally be a global device; there's just no reason to prevent most of the world from being able to enjoy what is an outstanding user experience. And, who knows, maybe a stylus and some water ingress protection will make the cut too, alongside the very necessary third party app optimizations that the original understandably lacks, at least right now.

The Oppo Find N is the most exciting foldable phone that you’ll probably never be able to buy – at least without importing one from China. This is a stellar attempt at a book-style foldable, with premium build quality that surpasses that of Huawei and Samsung in most regards. The small 5.49in cover display provides a more traditional smartphone experience compared to comically tall alternatives, while also providing a smaller pocketable footprint. The hinge system is robust and well-built with no visible gap between the two halves of the display when closed, and the expansive 7.1in internal display looks great with no noticeable crease when viewed head-on. Throw in impressive performance, a strong suite of cameras, and multi-day battery life and you’ve got a stellar foldable smartphone. Let’s just hope it makes it to the West officially one day.

90% Oppo Find N review: the compact foldable phone promise fulfilled

Overall, Oppo's first foldable phone, the Find N, makes an excellent first impression with its spot-on size or "golden folding ratio" as the company calls it that makes it almost as easy to lug around as a Z Flip, and yet offering much more. The superior camera hardware didn't translate to much better pictures than those from the direct Z Fold 3 or Mate X2 competitors, at least in daylight, but the photos come out nice nonetheless, as does the 4K video recording and time-lapse mode. Battery life and charging times of the Find N are very good, too, unless you browse or game on the main screen for hours. Above all the Find N virtues that we found in the course of this review, however, towers the main display with the best image quality and the most subtle crease on a foldable phone so far, where the new tailored for multitasking ColorOS interface shines bright, productive, and entertaining.

Other than some camera weaknesses, my time with the Find N has left me with one prevailing thought: I wish that the rest of the world could experience and buy this phone. It’s beautiful, it’s powerful, and other than some hiccups in the software localization, it’s got a lot to offer. The hinge, lack of gap, and crease you can’t feel are top-notch. While it shares similar lackluster battery life with other foldables and seriously underwhelming cameras, I’d much rather use the Find N than the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Oppo made a killer good phone here, and I hope we either see it go international or that the follow-up shrugs off the China exclusivity. For people not into foldable phones, then the Oppo Find X5 Pro is rumored to succeed the Find X3 Pro this year, and it's slated to have a neat design and powerful specs.

The OPPO Find N seems to be a polished foldable device, but there are some flaws that give its weakness away. For example, the two screens have different refresh rates – the cover screen is of 60Hz and the bendable screen 120Hz. Another is the absence of ingress protection. And, the on-battery time is terrible. Overall, the Find N seems to be an impressive first attempt by OPPO at making foldables. It is not perfect, but there finally would be a foldable device in the market other than the ones made by Samsung. Importantly, the launch of the Find N in markets outside China may accelerate the growth and adoption of foldable devices. That said, the foldable future now seems more probable!

Oppo Find N smartphone is the new-gen foldable phone from Oppo that was released in mid-December 2021, and the expected price of this handset is around $1,649 (Rs 1,23,599 in India). From the reports, Oppo is working on this phone for more than 4 years and now it’s in the market. Like any other high-end foldable phone, the device equips an outer screen of 5.49 inches AMOLED, while a 7.1-inches foldable screen is inside. The foldable screen is fabulous as it gets a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR 10 content support, and 1000 nits brightness. All of that bundle with the performance-driven Snapdragon 888 5G chipset and renders an Adreno 660 GPU. As for the software support, the phone arrives with an Android 11 base with ColorOS 12 customization layering. In terms of the camera end, the phone appears with a flagship-level triple camera that includes a 50MP primary sensor, 13MP telephoto, and 16MP ultra-wide. With this setup, you can record up to 4k videos with gyro-EIS and 32MP selfies present on both primary and secondary screens.

OPPO Find N Review: Combining the best of Samsung and Huawei’s foldables

If we compare the OPPO Find N against competitors, the Find N wins in most cases. The Find N’s screens are clearly superior to the Xiaomi Mix Fold’s screens, which have thicker bezels, slower refresh rates, and a noticeable crease on the inner display. And while the Mix Fold has since gone on discount, if we go by the official retail price, the Find N is cheaper by a thousand-plus yuan or around $200. I can say from my usage, I much prefer the Find N’s form factor and aspect ratio. And judging from many of the comments I’ve seen from my peers in tech media and also readers, I think my opinion is shared by many. But ultimately, it’s the price that makes the Find N a winner. For two years, foldable detractors have mocked the price of foldables. Well now OPPO has made a foldable that is not a cent more expensive than a top-tier flagship. I understand that this is China pricing, and if the Find N gets released internationally, the price will surely jump higher. But even if it gets up to $1,500, this is still not far off from a Samsung Ultra or Apple Max phone.

We have found our next favorite foldable - it's the Find N. Indeed, the Find N made it quite easy to write this - it has an attractive design, an outstanding foldable screen, the cover one is perfectly usable, too, and we are happy with the performance, the camera skills, and the battery life. Not having a crease on the foldable screen was nice, too, while the transition of the content between the two screens with matching colors and brightness literally wowed us. And believe us, this rarely happens these days. The Find N is not an ideal device - there is no official ingress protection, the grip is almost non-existent, we are not fans of the punch-holes, and most importantly - the extremely limited availability. Still, for those of you wondering - the Find N does support Google services, meaning if you've fallen in love with that one, an import from Asia might be an adventure worthy of the hassle. One thing we can say for sure is that the Find N, even if a first-generation foldable from Oppo, gets plenty of things right, and it gets our warm recommendation.

The Oppo Find N is one of the most intriguing smartphones not only this season but for the entire 2021. It is a bit different from the Fold3 and in a good way - the Fold was too big for some, while the Flip - too small. The Find N, on the other hand, is a compact smartphone that unfolds into an iPad mini-like device. And that's just great! It's not all sunshine and roses, though. There is some room for improvement on grip and the way you open the Find. The speakers are oddly positioned, too, but we need more time with them before passing a verdict. And there is no ingress protection, something we believe many have grown to expect since Samsung's recent foldables. We enjoyed our time with the Find N, and we do believe Oppo has a winner here. Despite some hiccups, the Find N is shaping as one of the most innovative phones we've seen in a while. It seems Oppo has plans for a Chinese release only, and we can only hope it considers expanding its availability somewhere down the road - it deserves a broader reach.

Je donne à l'Oppo Find N2 la note de 3,5 étoiles. Oui, j'avoue que c'est un peu incompréhensible. Mais le problème ne réside pas tant dans le smartphone lui-même bien qu'il lui manque par exemple une certification IP, une prise jack casque ou un slot pour carte microSD. Les écrans interne et externe sont totalement convaincants, les performances sont suffisantes, le stockage est généreux et la capacité de la batterie ainsi que la vitesse de recharge me conviennent aussi. Même le module photo Hasselblad est fondamentalement convaincant. Mais à mon avis, Oppo ne tire pas assez profit de ce format génial. Il y avait tellement plus à faire, comme de possiblités d'utiliser l'écran pliable presque carré. Bien entendu, il s'agit d'un smartphone que l'on ne peut officiellement acheter qu'en Chine. Mais même pour les standards chinois, les cinq applications optimisées sont tout simplement insuffisantes pour moi. Une fois qu'il y aura plus d'applications à utiliser simultanément pour exploiter le "grand" écran, il sera tout à fait justifié d'acheter le Oppo Find N2. En effet, le petit écran extérieur de 5,5 pouces permet de faire tout ce qu'il faut au quotidien de façon fiable. Si ce n'est pas le cas, attendez que les smartphones pliables deviennent nettement plus fins. Le fait d'avoir un gros pavé dans votre poche pourrait aussi vous gêner au quotidien.

Le format est 9/8,4 soit un écran presque carré. C’est notamment pour cette raison que la marque nous a expliqué ne pas commercialiser ce produit hors de Chine estimant que les applications ne sont pas optimisées pour un tel affichage et que cela pourrait créer de la frustration chez les utilisateurs. Oppo souhaitant proposer la meilleure expérience matérielle, mais aussi logicielle, l’entreprise semble s’être résignée à ne pas distribuer le Find N2 sur d’autres marchés qu’en Chine. Espérons que les choses évoluent dans le bon sens pour qu’à terme, nous puissions aussi profiter de tels appareils et d’une expérience aussi satisfaisante que possible. En attendant, il faut reconnaître que le Find N2 est bien une réussite. Son design est particulièrement réussi. Sa prise en main est ergonomique et efficace et il semble capable d’offrir d’excellentes performances au service d’une productivité accrue. Un test plus poussé aurait permis d’en savoir plus, mais il faudra se « contenter » du Oppo Find N2 Flip comme modèle pliant pour la marque chez nous.

Despite its svelte physique and superior design, the Oppo Find N was very affordable for a foldable phone when it launched, and the Find N2 is no exception with $1150 for the 256GB, and $1290 equivalent for the 512GB model. Oppo doesn't charge extra for the new Flexion Hinge that brings on an even thinner and lighter body, as well as for the near-invisible crease, or for the faster processor and improved camera, not to mention the amazing screen quality. In fact, the Find N2 is now the best phone with vertically folding display money can buy, and not just because of the price level. The more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 4 - its main competitor, is at once chubbier and less ergonomic to use, as well as less aesthetically pleasing with a hinge gap and main panel crease that look two generations behind Oppo's handywork.

Nous n'avons pas effectué un test approfondi du Find N2, mais ce deuxième téléphone pliant d'Oppo nous a impressionné pendant le peu de temps que nous avons passé avec lui. Le Find N2 a un design compact rafraîchissant pour un pliant, deux écrans nets, des caméras fiables et une charge rapide. Avec son design plus petit, le Find N2 prouve qu'il est possible de concevoir un smartphone avec un écran de la taille d'une tablette qui reste portable. La forme carrée différencie également le Find N2 de son principal rival Android, le Galaxy Z Fold 4. Il est dommage que le Find N2 ne soit disponible qu'en Chine, du moins pour le moment.

In its default mode, the Oppo Find N2 uses the wider Display-P3 color gamut, which tends to give sRGB photos a more saturated look. But the screen’s colors were generally accurate and consistent when viewing photos, despite a noticeable pink hue. When watching HDR10 videos, the device’s automatic brightness is too low for comfortable viewing, and the user might have to adjust the brightness manually. While the display is well-adapted to indoor use, its brightness can be still be low when using the device outdoors in bright conditions. However, this smartphone features an anti-reflection film, which significantly improves the screen’s readability outdoors.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 135, the Oppo Find N2 proved to be an all-round strong performer in our tests. In playback, the sound signature was very pleasant, even at maximum volume, but a lack of dual stereophony (stereo output in landscape and portrait orientation) meant that the Oppo failed to really stand out. Playback performance was overall very good when listening to music or watching movies, but it was also quite good for gaming. Recording results were excellent, especially with the main camera. Performance was slightly less good for the front camera and recorder app, but still very good. Recording quality remained good at high sound pressure levels, for example, when recording concerts. A wide rendition of the stereo sound scene also resulted in an immersive experience.

Not to forget, it’s quite lightweight compared to other foldable phones with better performance and camera. But, a little bit of speedy charger or wireless charging won’t hurt the feelings. It’s just a few nitpicking; even then, it’s a dealbreaker for many users. Anyway, the phone is not going on the international market yet (at the time we are reviewing the phone). However, let’s hope that we see the third generation phones on the global stage. As for alternative options, you can consider Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 for better specs but it will cost a little more.

In China, the Oppo Find N2 costs the local equivalent of $1,150 and is available to buy there now. It’s possible to import the phone to the U.S., and expect to pay around $1,500 depending on the store and factors like the exchange rate if you do, but should you? Probably not. I’d had more than enough of the software annoyances after a week or so, and I doubt very much I’ve experienced all the issues the phone will have when forced to work outside China. Expect to run into more than I’ve described here, as our use will certainly differ. That’s before concerns over connectivity, call performance, and a warranty when importing one. There’s very little wrong with the Find N2 when you don’t consider the software, which isn’t the phone’s fault at all, just a consequence of my using it outside China. The lack of an IP rating and the missing wireless charging are the only major feature omissions, both of which are offered by the readily available Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The fact the Z Fold 4 is much easier to purchase makes it our recommendation if you’re looking for a big-screen folding smartphone and you don’t live in China. However, this is stating the obvious because Samsung really doesn’t have any competition. It’s the Z Fold 4 or nothing, really. That’s why it’s frustrating that the Find N2 isn’t more widely available with software that works for international audiences. It’s suitably different enough from the Z Fold 4 to entice those unconvinced by the Samsung phone’s unusual dimensions, the camera’s excellent, and performance rivals the best non-folding phone flagships too.

We're not quite in a position to recommend a Find N2 or advise against one, seeing how market specifics don't really present us with a choice. What we can say is that the second generation Oppo foldable maintains all that set the original one apart and made it a unique offering and build on that, resulting in an overall superior product. The displays retain the size and proportions of the Find N - possibly the best package for the most people, only now they get a brightness boost and extra smoothness on the cover. The phone's gotten appreciably lighter, has better cameras and performance and the speedy charging couldn't hurt. A couple of tough decisions had to be made to reach the lightness goals and the wireless charging fell victim, which is a bummer. The relocation of the volume rocker gives us pause as does the speaker arrangement, but that's mostly nitpicking. Ultimately, the one dealbreaking issue for us is not an issue with the phone itself - it's the fact that we can't really have one, not officially, and not with the software we're used to using. Let's keep our fingers crossed then that the Find N3 will finally make it out of China.

So, all in all, I think the OPPO Find N2 has phenomenal hardware – especially the hinge. The cover display aspect ratio is definitely up for debate as I prefer something taller but not as tall as the Z Fold 4. I personally find the nearly square unfolded display quite difficult to use – and to grab the phone with one hand. I still don’t know if OPPO will sell this phone anywhere else in the world because according to Android Authority, the global launch for the Find N2 is still under discussion.

Needless to say, foldable phones are now for everyone. They’re still quite pricey, for one thing, and the form factor also doesn’t suit everyone. If you tend to get your phones wet, this device is not for you, definitely. Also, there are some quirks with ColorOS that you may want to avoid, mainly because this build is not for global markets. On the other hand, this is the best foldable hardware out there, in my opinion. It’s incredibly well built, with a gapless design, minimal crease, and a very reliable folding mechanism. It’s also great for one-hand use, when folded, and it has a reliable camera and battery life, not to mention great displays and fast charging. Figure out what you want, and then weigh your options. It’s difficult to fault OPPO for IP rating and wireless charging considering they were aiming to hit this form factor. Both of those would make the phone bulkier.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip foldable smartphone is a rival for Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Motorola RAZR, and the global model is launching soon! As well as the Fold model, the Find N2 Flip just launched at Oppo INNO Day 2022, boasting respectable specs, a 4300mAh battery and decent camera tech. While the regular Find N2 isn't coming to the UK, the Flip version should launch globally in 2023. This compact foldable phone sports Oppo’s second-gen Flexion Hinge, which is more robust than the original. You get a proper big 3.26-inch cover screen, while the Oppo Find N2 Flip's internal screen has ‘nearly no crease’ allegedly. According to the manufacturer this is better vs rivals like the Samsung Z Flip 4 and the RAZR, but we'll see when we do an actual unboxing/review. The Find N2 Flip runs off an exclusive version of the Mediatek Dimensity 9000 Plus, as found in beefy phone like Xiaomi 12 Pro and ROG Phone 6D - but here it's optimised for a smaller form factor. And you have a 4300mAh battery, not too far off that found in the Find N2! Also this week at INNO Day 2022, Oppo revealed the Marisilicon Y SoC for wired-style Bluetooth streaming, and a health tablet thing that can watch you sleep. Oh, and Xiaomi finally launched the bloody 13 series phones, plus the Xiaomi S2 smartwatch.

De notre point de vue, le smartphone pliant Oppo Find N2 Flip est une réussite. En effet, grâce à son grand écran externe, il offre un moyen d'interaction qui est pour le moment relativement limité mais qui, espérons-le, s'étoffera avec des développements à venir. L'écran interne est excellent manquant extrêmement peu le pli, agréable au toucher, avec une bonne réactivité et une gestion de la fréquence de rafraîchissement pertinente. On apprécie également la charnière qui ne laisse aucun espace entre les deux volets, lorsqu'il est fermé. La surcouche logicielle est un modèle du genre avec de nombreuses options de personnalisation et des fonctions intéressantes. Les performances ne sont pas les meilleures du plateau mais répondent à nos attentes vu le positionnement de l'appareil sur le marché. En outre, nous avons apprécié les photos produites par le Find N2 Flip avec une très bonne colorimétrie, un bon piqué et un certain dynamisme même s'il y a mieux, surtout si vous aimez zoomer. L'autonomie est juste satisfaisante mais (un peu) supérieure à la concurrence d'autant que le mobile est le plus rapide à se recharger dans sa catégorie même s'il n’atteins pas les vitesses des plus véloces au format conventionnel. Alors oui, on peut lui reprocher sa certification seulement IPX4 et l'absence d'une charge sans fil mais pour le reste, il s'agit d'un vrai bon choix.

À l'heure du bilan, force est de constater que le nouveau smartphone pliant d'Oppo est un produit séduisant. Au-delà de son format toujours très pratique, son design et ses finitions sont plus aboutis que celle de son grand rival, le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Il profite également d'une meilleure autonomie et d'une vitesse de charge plus rapide. Son second écran à la taille XXL apporte par ailleurs un vrai confort d'utilisation pour accéder aux paramètres rapides ou à ses notifications d'un coup d'œil, sans avoir à ouvrir le smartphone. Tout n'est pas parfait pour autant, à commencer par un bloc photo très déséquilibré. En effet, le module caméra ultra-grand-angle n'est, selon nous, pas à la hauteur de ce que l'on attend d'un smartphone à plus de 1 000 euros. L'autre point faible du téléphone vient de son expérience logicielle. ColorOS est toujours une excellente interface, mais manque encore cruellement d'optimisations logicielles pour exploiter pleinement le format pliant.

Première incursion européenne d’OPPO dans le domaine des smartphones pliants, le Find N2 Flip est une réussite sous bien des aspects. Nous apprécions notamment son design et son ergonomie, très efficaces, même s’ils sont très « inspirés » de ce que produit Samsung. Le mécanisme de charnière mis au point par OPPO permet de minimiser l’impact de la pliure sur la dalle AMOLED. Celle-ci produit d’ailleurs une très belle image. L’écran externe, tout aussi bon, bénéficie de généreuses dimensions. Dommage qu’il soit pour l’instant sous-exploité. Les performances globales, l’autonomie confortable, la charge ultrarapide et la qualité des photos en bonne luminosité nous ont particulièrement plu. Dommage en revanche que son prix soit si élevé, même s’il reste plus abordable que ses concurrents.

L'Oppo Find N2 Flip est sans aucun doute le téléphone à clapet le plus abouti sorti à ce jour. Au niveau hardware, le format est mieux maitrisé que chez Samsung avec une pliure presque invisible, une charnière qui se ferme complètement, un écran 21:9 contre 22:9 sur le Z Flip, un grand écran externe qui en met plein la vue. Le tout pour 70 euros de moins à configuration équivalente. La démonstration est impressionnante. Au niveau logiciel en revanche, il y a encore un peu de travail pour rattraper Samsung. Logique pour une première génération. Le mode flex n'est pas encore aussi abouti et l'écran externe est assez limité dans ses usages. On ne boude tout de même pas notre plaisir de voir enfin arriver un compétiteur digne de ce nom face à Samsung sur un format qui est appelé à se démocratiser (pour rappel, le Z Flip se vend deux fois plus que le Z Fold). Si vous êtes tentés par l'aventure, les concessions sont presque les mêmes que chez Samsung : l'absence de téléobjectif sur un téléphone à plus de 1000 euros et une autonomie un peu moyenne. L'Oppo reprend du terrain en proposant une charge 44 W, mais il perd aussi un argument en n'étant pas étanche, ce qui est le cas du Samsung. Vous l'aurez compris, le diable est dans les détails, mais si vous êtes client du format clapet, l'Oppo Find N2 Flip est un vrai bon choix à considérer. Il faut juste en assumer le coût.

Prise en main de l’Oppo Find N2 Flip : un sérieux concurrent pour le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 ?

Avec le Find N2 Flip, Oppo est bien parti pour réussir son pari. En ne précipitant pas la sortie de son premier smartphone pliant à clapet, le fabricant avait pris le risque de laisser la concurrence s’installer. Mais il s’est aussi laissé le temps de peaufiner son N2 Flip, afin d’éviter certains écueils. Notamment du côté de l’autonomie, traditionnel point faible de ce genre d’appareils. Nous attendrons bien sûr les résultats de notre Labo pour livrer un avis définitif sur les performances techniques. Mais, après avoir passé plusieurs jours avec le N2 Flip, nous pouvons d’ores et déjà écrire que le smartphone est bien conçu, d’excellente facture et agréable à utiliser. Avec 3,26 pouces de diagonale, son écran externe est le plus grand du genre. Plus qu’un gadget, il se montre très pratique au quotidien grâce à un système de widgets (météo, réponses rapides, lecture multimédia, etc.) qui permettent de ne pas avoir à déplier l’appareil pour accéder aux informations. Pour le reste, le smartphone est fluide, réactif et en mesure de faire tourner les jeux et applications les plus exigeants.

80% Test du Oppo Find N2 Flip : une belle entrée en matière

Oppo entend se faire une belle place dans un marché encore balbutiant avec un Find N2 Flip qui corrige certains défauts de son concurrent direct, le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Mais la formule du constructeur chinois n'est pas encore parfaite. Le Find N2 Flip est le premier smartphone pliant à clapet d'Oppo et le premier modèle de ce genre à être commercialisé à l'extérieur de la Chine. L'appareil, vendu 1099€, a nécessité trois ans de développement. Trois ans durant lesquelles le constructeur a tenté de gommer trois défauts pointés du doigt chez la concurrence à savoir la trace du pli, l'autonomie et l'équipement photo. Dans ces domaines là, Oppo a une certaine expertise connue et reconnue avec des produits qui font autorité comme le Find N et Find X5 Pro. C'est donc plein d'espoir que nous avons accueilli dans nos mains le Find N2 Flip. Voici nos impressions.

Jusqu’à maintenant, quand on parlait de smartphones pliants à clapet, il n’y avait bien que ceux de Samsung et dans une bien moindre mesure celui de Motorola et celui de Huawei sans Google. Désormais, il faudra compter sur Oppo avec son nouveau Find N2 Flip. S’adressant à un plus large public, il a de quoi séduire malgré un prix premium. Comme c’est toujours le cas, on rappelle que ça reste un smartphone et que c’est vraiment une question de priorités. Pour le même prix, certains se poseront peut-être la question d’un smartphone plus classique mais bien plus capable en photo. Dans tous les cas, l’Oppo Find N2 Flip est un smartphone polyvalent et réussi. Le bloc photo n’est pas aussi complet que d’autres mais c’est un peu le sacrifice qu’on consent sur ce type de smartphones Performant et endurant, Oppo apporte un écran externe plus pratique et utile que la concurrence. Enfin, on ne va pas se mentir, en 2023, l’expérience d’un smartphone à clapet reste unique et on adore. On s’est surpris à apprécier notre temps avec le smartphone, peut-être parce que ça prend moins de place dans nos poches, peut-être pour son effet Wouah. En fait, il n’y a pas vraiment de raison logique, c’était juste un plaisir. Donc l'Oppo Find N2 Flip en Ligue des Champions oui, mais seulement pour les phases de poules avant la Ligue Europa, ce qui est toujours mieux que l'OM.

Le Find N2 Flip signe une entrée réussie pour Oppo sur le marché du smartphone pliant. Son modèle à clapet profite d'un bel écran intérieur associé à une charnière qui permet de faire presque disparaître sa pliure. Il est en outre puissant, suffisamment endurant et agréable à utiliser. Malgré l'estampille Hasselblad, son volet photo n'est pas tout à fait abouti, et l'on regrette surtout que les cas d'usage de son écran extérieur soient encore peu nombreux. Il faut espérer que des mises à jour logicielles permettront d'exploiter davantage le potentiel de ce smartphone qui, pour un premier essai, parvient quoi qu'il en soit à convaincre.

Pour les photos, il y a deux autres capteurs de 50 mégapixels, Sony IMX890 et de 8 mégapixels pour les prises de vue en mode ultra grand-angle. La marque promet de pouvoir réaliser des photos en selfie avec une excellente qualité s’appuyant sur les deux capteurs externes en positionnant le mobile ouvert à 90 degrés, l’écran externe pouvant ainsi servir de fenêtre de cadrage. Notez la présence du partenaire Hasselblad pour l'optimisation de la colorimétrie et la possibilité d'appliquer des filtres exclusifs. Enfin, rappelons que le smartphone est animé par un processeur MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ spécialement optimisé, selon la marque. Ce dernier est associé à 8 Go de mémoire vive au format LPDDR5 avec la possibilité d’ajouter jusqu’à 8 Go supplémentaires puisés dans la mémoire de stockage pour charger plus rapidement des applications. La capacité de stockage est de 256 Go au format UFS 3.1, sans possibilité d’insérer une carte mémoire.

À bien des égards, le Find N2 Flip est une réussite. Performant et endurant, il se distingue surtout par sa conception irréprochable (notamment sa charnière innovante). Plus séduisant esthétiquement que son rival le Galaxy Z Flip4, il souffre aussi des mêmes faiblesses : un appareil photo un peu chiche pour un modèle vendu plus de 1 000 euros et des optimisations logicielles pour le format pliant un peu faiblardes. Surtout, OPPO arrive un peu tard, ce qui l’empêche de se montrer compétitif face à son concurrent. Proposé à 1 099 euros, le Find N2 Flip doit rivaliser avec un Galaxy Z Flip4 positionné à moins de 900 euros. Difficile de lutter.

Given Samsung — let’s be honest, OPPO has targeted the Z Flip — is on the 4th generation of the flip, I’m astounded that I’m saying this. Do note, however, I’ve said users who have the budget because when you can get a great phone like the Pixel 7 Pro for AU$1.299.00, or the Pixel 7 for AU$999.00 there’s a premium you’re paying for the folding technology. If you decide to drop the cash on a Find N2 Flip, you’re getting a great phone though with a couple of clear advantages over flip-style competitors. The cover screen is much easier to use and highly functional, the main screen folds flat with minimal crease which results in less ingress of pocket junk; reducing risk of screen damage in your pocket. If OPPO decides to run a special on this for the end of the financial year, knocking $200 to $300 off; grab one. Yes, it’s a first-generation device from OPPO, but they’ve clearly learned a lot from the competition and delivered something pretty impressive and a competitive price.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip is the best foldable flip smartphone in 2023... for now. It performed almost better in every way than its main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Its battery life was a real, pleasant surprise. The external screen is also the biggest in the market right now, which makes it much more functional than other models in this still emergent category. However, there is still something missing making this product fully relevant in our everyday life. I would like to have a real user interface for the external screen and not just shortcuts and widgets. That's still too limited daily. Anyway, foldable clamshell smartphones are usually the "poor man's" foldable smartphones. The specifications are a bit more limited and they are slightly cheaper than the classic foldable form factor. With that large screen justifying having a clamshell design, the Oppo Find N2 Flip seems more functional without having to sacrifice its compact form factor.

Those with previous-gen foldables might even envy your screen's near-creaseless look. If you can live without water resistance, or if the ultrawide camera isn’t a huge priority, consider that the Find N2 Flip still delivers a flagship-grade processor and a battery that can keep up even with devices with larger capacities. Taken solely on its merits as a phone, you’re getting a device that, at a recommended retail price of $1,299, not only undercuts its main rival (which is $1,411 directly from Samsung Singapore as of the time of writing) but, for that matter, numerous other non-foldable flagship devices.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip performed well in our battery protocol tests. It ranked just below the average of our whole database, edging out the Samsung Galaxy Flip4 for the best score among the flip devices we’ve tested so far. The Oppo Find N2 Flip autonomy performances were decent. The 4300mAh battery lasted slightly more than 2 days, which was much better than other flip devices. The autonomy when gaming was quite impressive. However, the autonomy that was measured when calling or on the go was poor. The charging experience was slightly below average, and the recovered autonomy from a quick 5-minute charge was low. The 44W charger took 1 hour and 27 minutes to fully charge the battery, while a quick 5-minute charge provided only 3 hours and 23 minutes of autonomy on average. Moreover, the residual consumption of the charger was high when the device was fully charged and still plugged in. The charge efficiency results showed that the device was well-optimized, considering that discharge currents for streaming videos and gaming during our typical usage scenario were quite low. In fact, the discharge current for gaming was the best we had measured so far. When compared to other phones in the Ultra-Premium segment ($800+), the Oppo Find N2 Flip’s performance was in the top half of the database. Its autonomy was decent, and even slightly above average. The charging experience was below average, but its efficiency was excellent.

Oppo has added a flip phone to its line-up with the Find N2 Flip, which given its novel format and price, finds itself among the Ultra-Premium smartphones in the DXOMARK database. With an overall camera score that was a few points higher than the slightly older Samsung Galaxy Flip4, the Find N2 Flip’s primary camera delivered good image quality in both photo and video mode, particularly with a good texture/noise tradeoff. Still images featured good exposure and a wide dynamic range, especially when shooting landscape scenes. What held the N2 Flip back from a higher ranking were the instabilities in exposure, white balance and autofocus, as well as poor video stabilization, especially when capturing scenes with motion. Zoom performance was limited, which could be partially attributed to the physical design of the phone. Captured detail was low at all tele settings, mainly because the device lacked a dedicated tele camera, something most Ultra-Premium phones usually have. However, the device’s flip design leaves little room for an additional lens. The Oppo also does not have a macro mode. Portrait results in bokeh mode were nice, but overall, the Find N2 Flip camera struggled to keep up with the best in class in the Ultra-Premium segment.

The real competition for Oppo right now is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and it is safe to say on that front, Oppo has a winner on its hands. Truth be told, some folks in South Korea should unquestionably be worried and look over their shoulders as Oppo has given the Galaxy Flip not just a run for its money but outshines in many aspects. Having said that, it’s not the perfect foldable phone. The camera setup isn’t a flagship one and when someone is out there to spend Rs 90,000 perhaps won’t like to make any sort of compromise. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is priced at Rs 89,999 for the lone 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. At the end of the day, this is a foldable form factor, which isn’t really everyone’s cup of tea right now. Those who really want a flip phone would perhaps be fine to overlook a few misses in the Oppo Find N2 Flip. Oppo has done an extremely fine job with its first flip phone and could very well become the first choice for those who want this kind of phone. Oppo hasn’t completely knocked it out of the park but has cleared the ropes handsomely.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip display offered a satisfactory experience, with a strong showing in color rendering in all lighting conditions. When checking static content or viewing images, the Oppo Find N2 Flip proved to be particularly good in indoor conditions, with colors and brightness particularly well adjusted, making the screen very readable. When using the device to watch HDR10 videos, our testers observed that the brightness was much too low to ensure comfortable viewing, and that the user might have to manually adjust the brightness adaptation. But the testers did not observe any HDR boost to improve the viewing of contents. The display appeared to sharpen details, but sometimes that would result in texture artifacts. During our outdoor tests in direct sunlight, our experts observed that the screen did not reach the 1600 nits of maximum brightness advertised in the specifications, and that the High Brightness Mode did not activate soon enough, which would impact readability outdoors. Still, the device reached 1350 nits in an extremely bright environment (>100K lux), even though this kind of lighting condition is rarely experienced, and High Brightness Mode can be improved with some tuning. This smartphone features an anti-reflection film, which not only reduced the visibility of the crease in all conditions but significantly improved readability outdoors.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 131, the Oppo Find N2 Flip delivered a pretty good performance in our tests. As a playback device, it was was not quite as good as the foldable N2 with its large dimensions in its unfolded state, but it had the edge in recording, delivering surprisingly good results. The playback experience with the built-in speakers was pretty much free of artifacts and offered good localizability on individual sound sources. The sound signature was a touch dark, though. Overall, the Oppo did best when watching movies and gaming, scoring slightly lower in the music use case. As a recording device, it did equally well across all use cases, delivering a pleasant sound signature, even at high sound pressure levels, for example at concerts and shows. Stereo recordings were very immersive as well.

You also get more storage, as the 256GB variant of Samsung's Flip is priced higher. However, I can't ignore two big features that are missing from Oppo's offering: an official IP rating and wireless charging. I’d say this is for those who don’t mind experimenting, are open to trying a foldable and don’t want a Samsung.

There's a lot to like about Oppo's approach to the flip phone. The vertical cover display is the big talking point, we think, offering a much more useful exterior screen than what we've seen from the likes of Samsung or Motorola, even if it does look a little odd. We still think the software could be optimised further to make better use of it, but it's a handy tool to have for quickly getting information and notifications up. The almost crease-less display is great, it's rich and vibrant and the gap-less design when closed makes it seem really neat. We'd love to see a hinge that holds better at different angles, and more features added to make use of the flexible display. A better ultrawide camera would be wonderful too, but on the whole the Find N2 Flip is a strong first album from Oppo. It's compact, attractive, fast, quick to refill and looks flippin' cool. Yes, that pun was intended. It also doesn't cost a hideous amount.

As 24-hour periods go, we've found a lot we like about Oppo's approach to the flip phone. Competition is good for many reasons, but looking at the Oppo Find N2 Flip, there are two things in particular that stand out. The first is price. At £849 (around $1,025), Oppo’s foldable flip phone is £150 more affordable than Samsung’s comparable Galaxy Z Flip 4 was at launch in the UK, and that’s currently Oppo’s most serious competitor outside of China. (Although the Find N2 is releasing “globally,” Oppo’s definition doesn’t extend to North America.) Undercutting it on price like this is important, especially if Oppo can pressure Samsung to cut prices to stay competitive. Second is variety. Although Oppo’s foldable has the same overall form factor as Samsung’s Z Flip devices, which fold from a regular size smartphone down into a compact square to make them more pocketable, it has a much larger cover display for viewing notifications and controlling features. It means there’s a lot of potential here to do more with Oppo’s foldable without having to flip it open first. Yes, at the end of the day, you’re still going to be flipping open the phone for most tasks. But considering it undercuts Samsung on price with a very comparable set of features, the Find N2 Flip ends up being a surprisingly competitive alternative to the Z Flip 4 — so long as you trust Oppo’s durability claims.

It's quite obvious with the two foldable releases from team Oppo and OnePlus (BBK Electronics) that the two brands have put up enough of a challenge, raising the bar for Samsung's upcoming foldables, which are expected to be called the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. I have no doubt that the OnePlus Open is a clear winner compared to what Samsung currently offers in 2023. But I have mixed feelings about the Oppo Find N3 Flip. I'm also not a big fan of its vertical cover display layout and am quite confused about whether Oppo will get rid of this layout for something better with the next model. While the Find N3 Flip's raw performance (including gaming), overall camera quality and battery life (including charging) are quite impressive for a clamshell foldable, it's all stuck behind an oddly laid out cover display experience, one that will vary depending on the apps that you use on a daily basis. Pick this one if you don't use the cover display often on your current foldable or don't intend to on your first one.

Overall, the OPPO Find N3 Flip has an elegant sleek design and robust performance. The cameras are among the best parts of the phone and could be a primary reason to pick it up, especially if that's part of your checklist. If we have to nitpick something, it would be the cover screen, which could use more improvements. Also, you may want to stick to pro mode to get better night mode photos. There aren't a lot of foldable flip phones available in Malaysia. But there's the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 at RM4499, just slightly higher than the Find N3 Flip. Both phones are similar, but you could get the Samsung phone if you're a fan of the Galaxy ecosystem. If you're on a budget, check out the Tecno Phantom V Flip 5G for RM2999 instead. There aren't a lot of foldable flip phones available in Malaysia. But there's the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 at RM4499, just slightly higher than the Find N3 Flip. Both phones are similar, but you could get the Samsung phone if you're a fan of the Galaxy ecosystem. If you're on a budget, check out the Tecno Phantom V Flip 5G for RM2999 instead. Honestly I am extremely impressed with the OPPO Find N3 and as a foldable I do like the bigger inside screen and the cameras and software and the overall experience in my book is just off the scale impressive. Granted there was one or two little things I would like to be changed such as the overlapping apps along with possibly redesigning the massively huge camera bump at the back but otherwise for me, the OPPO Find N3 screen premium, high end performance and luxury and it is a worth competitor and possibly the winner of best foldable so far for 2024 in my books. My only question still remains – longevity of the device and foldable screen, especially with the price but also with the majority of consumers holding onto their phones for longer periods than previous generations.

And yes, it may not be as feature-friendly as the Galaxy Z Fold5, a foldable which has basically become the benchmark that every other foldable entering the market needs to meet or beat. Did I have fun using the Find N3 as my daily driver, along with features like its Boundless View mode and the fact I can pretty much use Google Wallet with it? Absolutely. Would I recommend it wholeheartedly as a common option to the masses?

It competes well with the benchmark in the class, the Galaxy Z Fold5, by delivering as good or better results in key areas, while not really falling short in any major way. For example, the Find N3's rear cameras are more versatile on both the ultrawide and telephoto end. The displays on the Oppo foldable are nicer in almost every way, and on top of what is mostly a tie battery life, the Find N3 adds quicker charging. The nice speakers help too. The Oppo also offers a compelling alternative to what's been one of Samsung's key selling points - the software bits to make the most out of the form factor. Other makers have been unable to nail those until now, but ColorOS appears to have done it just right. Where the Find N3 can't quite challenge the Galaxy is in water resistance and high refresh rate handling when it comes to gaming.

Oppo:

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

Qualcomm Adreno 660:

Qualcomm Adreno 730:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm affirme qu'elle est 30 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 660 du SoC Snapdragon 888. Pour Android, elle devrait être l'une des cartes graphiques les plus rapides fin 2021.

ARM Mali-G710 MP10:

L'ARM Mali-G710MC10 est une carte graphique intégrée haut de gamme pour les smartphones avec 10 des 16 cœurs possibles. Elle est basée sur la troisième génération de l'architecture Valhall d'ARM, qui offre des performances et une efficacité énergétique supérieures de 20 % à celles de la génération précédente. Dans le Dimensity 9000, le G710 est produit dans le processus moderne 4nm.

ARM Immortalis-G715 MP11:

L'ARM Immortalis-G715MC11 est une carte graphique intégrée haut de gamme pour smartphones avec 11 des 16 cœurs possibles. Elle est basée sur la troisième génération de l'architecture Valhall d'ARM et offre des performances supérieures de 15 % à celles de la génération précédente. Le G715 est le premier GPU mobile à prendre en charge le ray tracing matériel et l'ombrage à taux variable (VRS).

Qualcomm Adreno 740:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Qualcomm affirme qu'elle est 25 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 730 du Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 et les premiers benchmarks montrent que le GPU peut battre l'iGPU A16 d'Apple (auparavant le GPU le plus rapide pour les smartphones).

SD 888 5G:

SD 8+ Gen 1:

SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones, introduit fin 2021 et fabriqué en 4 nm chez TSMC. Il intègre un "Prime Core" basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X2 cadencée jusqu'à 3,2 GHz. Trois autres cœurs de performance sont basés sur l'A710 mais cadencés jusqu'à 2,5 GHz. En outre, quatre cœurs d'économie d'énergie sont intégrés, basés sur l'architecture ARM Cortex-A510 et cadencés jusqu'à 1,8 GHz. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 6e, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5 jusqu'à 3 200 MHz. La 5G est désormais incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X65. Par rapport à la version non plus, le 8+ Gen 1 offre un Prime Core cadencé à 200 MHz de plus et un GPU cadencé à 10% de plus. De plus, elle est désormais produite par TSMC et non plus par Samsung.

SD 8 Gen 2:

SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones qui a été introduit fin 2022 avec un noyau principal rapide basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X3 cadencée jusqu'à 3,2 GHz. Deux autres cœurs performants sont basés sur l'A715 et ne prennent également en charge que les applications 64 bits. Les deux autres cœurs A710 prennent également en charge les applications 32 bits, tout comme les cœurs Cortex-A510, qui permettent d'économiser de l'énergie. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 7, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5x jusqu'à 4 200 MHz. La 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70.

Mediatek :

Dimensity 9000+:

Le Dimensity 9000 est un SoC haut de gamme avec un modem 5G intégré. Il comprend un cœur rapide Cortex-X2 cadencé à 3,2 GHz, trois autres cœurs A710 cadencés à 2,85 GHz et quatre cœurs d'efficacité énergétique (Cortex-A510) cadencés à 1,8 GHz.

Mediatek Dimensity 9000:

Dimensity 9200: Le Dimensity 9200 est un SoC haut de gamme avec modem 5G intégré. Il comprend un cœur Cortex-X3 rapide pouvant atteindre 3,05 GHz, trois autres cœurs A715 pouvant atteindre 2,85 GHz et quatre cœurs d'efficacité énergétique (Cortex-A510) pouvant atteindre 1,8 GHz.
