It’s a very close call, and we didn’t really think we’d be saying this, but the 1000H is the best Eee PC – and the best all-round netbook – we’ve yet seen. With every size and price increase, we moan about the Eee moving away from its roots as an ultra-cheap netbook, but the simple truth is you really do notice every extra inch each revision adds, and the benefits that go with it. Draft-n wireless and some great power-saving tools give the 1000H a maturity and polish that its younger rivals don’t yet offer, so until MSI releases its next, improved offering, we find ourselves pledging our allegiance to the biggest brother of the Asus clan.

With no integrated 3G WWAN, no Bluetooth, no particularly stand-out functionality and a reasonably bland design, the ASUS Eee PC 1000HA is never going to be a huge statement piece. However it succeeds because, for most people, that’s not what a netbook needs to be. For $429.99 you’re getting a capable internet and messaging machine that’s durable, reliable and straightforward to use, together with enough battery life to demand, useage dependent, only one lunchtime recharge to get you through the work day. Compared with so-called “luxury” or feature netbooks, such as ASUS’ own S101 or N10, the 1000HA makes a far more convincing case.

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HA held up quite well in our testing and turned out to be a worthwhile contender for those shopping for an affordable netbook model. Offering most of the same features as the more expensive netbooks, including the sought-after 6-cell battery, consumers aren’t missing much when choosing this budget model. While the touchpad was a disappointment during use, it was the only big negative mark on the notebook. Some of it can be attributed to user preference and as always, it is best to try out one of these models in a retail store if it is at all possible before making your final decision.

I am thrilled by this little netbook, and based on its specs, price, and reading various reviews of other netbooks on the web, I would go as far as saying that the 1000H might be the best netbook on the market. It offers nearly every feature found on similar netbooks, but takes it a step further with a 1” larger screen, as well as Bluetooth and wireless-N. The build quality is also fantastic, and upgradability is made simple with the removable back panel offering easy access. The Eee PC 1000H is an excellent combination of performance and size, wrapped up in a usable 10” screen and a $450 price tag. I unconditionally recommend it to anyone in the market for a netbook, as I believe it to be the best one available.

All in all, the 1000H has its share of quirks, it definitely showcases an improvement in ease of use, and should open up the Eee PC lineup to a much broader subset of customers. There are certainly areas which Asus can/will improve on but the 1000H today is sleek, simple, efficient, and cheap for a fully functional Windows XP notebook. It's hard not to like the little bugger. It's an attractive product now, and will be made even more attractive when Asus updates their lineup with the new dual-core Atom processor, which is scheduled to hit later this year. We'll be waiting.

Asus has gone out of its way to make an Eee PC to suit every need and if you're after an everyday mobile computer, the Eee PC 1000H will suit many. Its larger keyboard makes it easier to use for adults, while its greater storage also provides the flexibility a more mature and demanding audience are after. It's only a shame the 1.45kg weight makes it bulkier than most, but on balance it's still the better of two 10in Eee PCs and until someone can match the battery life offered here it's probably the best netbook of its type, too.

As far as the near future goes, I plan on getting eeeBuntu (or something like it) as dialed in as possible but keeping my Windows XP partition. If eeeBuntu works really well, I can’t see using Windows very often, but I have the 80GB so I might as well have the option. I’m considering dropping in more RAM and even a 2.5-inch SSD, but neither are necessary and they would just be 30-minute projects. There is some room for tinkering with the system, but I’ll probably stay more on the software side, as the hardware side of the 1000H is pretty much in line with my needs right now.

If you take a step back and forget about the competitors and the price wars and so on, the Asus Eee PC 1000H turns out to be a very solid 10-inch netbook. It offers a good typing experience, a usable display, and a full set of features, making just what people need from a netbook. Where the Eee PC 701 was OK as a secondary notebook, the 1000H could be a primary notebook (but not, for most people, your primary computer). This may seem like a fine distinction, but it represents a big jump in usefulness and productivity. Once you factor in the price and competition, things get a lot more complex–Asus has still put out a very good product but the tough competition in this segment means that, for many people, it is not as desirable a system as some of the alternatives.

The ASUS Eee PC 1000H netbook is fairly large and borders on the size of a traditional ultraportable system. Of course, it has a much lower price tag and features but for a netbook it does quite well. The Windows XP operating system adds to the cost but makes it much more flexible to use. The biggest gripe though is the poor location of the right shift key that is nearly unusable without training.

Another month, another Eee PC, and we reach what must surely be the brand's peak size. The 1000H's 10in screen brings it in line with the MSI Wind U100 and Advent 4211 - in our view the best two mini-laptops so far. But it also makes it the most expensive Eee PC yet, a charge that puts it on the back foot from the start. Yes, it's bigger and dearer than ever, but it's also the most usable and well made Eee PC yet.

We found this a great laptop for those who need something akin to a standard laptop. However, for the daily commute the 901 remains a more portable option. We concluded our review of the Eee PC 901 by saying “with the promise of the 10-inch Eee PC 1000 and Eee PC 1000H just around the corner, some may want to play the waiting game.” And we were right. Those looking for a larger mini-notebook with a good sized screen and a spacious keyboard will find nearly everything they are looking for. However, the similarly configured MSI Wind NB offers comparable performance and endurance for $150 less, although some will prefer the 1000H's slick aesthetics. We like the Eee PC 1000H, but we’ll like it a lot more if the final pricing for the system winds up being less.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: L’Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 est une carte graphique intégrée à la carte mère sur les chipsets Mobile Intel 945GM. c’est une version accélérée de la GMA 900.

Seuls les vieux jeux peuvent tourner de façon fluide sur ces ordinateurs (S'ils ne sont pas trop gourmands en ressources). Les coeurs à mémoire partagée de cette catégorie ont l'avantage d'être moins chaud et moins gourmand en énergie. Pour le bureau, internet, l'édition de photos, et le montage vidéo ces cartes graphiques n'ont aucune restrictions.

Intel Atom:

Le processeur Intel Atom est un microprocesseur 64-bits pour ordinateurs portables petits et bon marché, les MIDs ou UMPC. La spécialité de la nouvelle architecture est dans le mode d'exécution "in order" (au lieu de l'habituel et plus rapide mode d'exécution "out of order"). Par conséquent, le coût du transistor de la série Atom est beaucoup plus faible, et donc moins cher à produire.
