Critique du Acer Aspire 3830TG (i7/SSD)

Décélération maximum?. On pensait que les problèmes de surchauffe/baisse des performances des Core 5 et i7 dans certains contextes étaient terminés, mais ce n'est toujours pas le cas. Acer offre du rêve (potentiel) avec son SSD, sa puissante carte graphique un processeur puissant et 8 Go de RAM.

Avec un disque dur SSD, un puissant GPU, beaucoup de RAM et une bonne carte graphique dans un boîtier compact le tout avec un bon prix avec ce Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG (version: 2628G12nbb). 

Le TimelineX 3830TG avait déjà été approché en Mai 2011. Une conception de qualité, de bons dispositifs d'entrées, une puissante batterie et d'excellentes performances. Par contre les couleurs ne sont pas terribles, le boîtier assez instable et le Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz) baisse sa puissance avec une charge à 100%. Les raisons sont encore ouvertes à la discussion. 

Avec le 3830TG est aussi proposé avec le Core i7 2620M (2.7 GHz) avec le Core i5 qui se comporte mal avec le même système de ventilation? 

Toutes les infos sur le Aspire TimelineX 3830TG i7 SSD dans ce test. La finition, les interfaces, la connectivité et les dispositifs d'entrées sont les mêmes que dans l'autre version du 3830TG (i5, Mai 2011).

Boîtier

Le boîtier fin et la base homogène attire l'oeil. La surface matte avec le logo Acer parait très sobre en vue des composants à l'interieur. Mais le boîtier supporte mal la torsion. L'écran quand à lui est bien plus résistant et rigide.

Ecran

Cet écran modèle AUO B133XW03 V2 possède une résolution de 1366x768 pixels. L'écran est le même que le 3830TG-2414G75 de May 2011. Donc le contraste est faible à 163:1, la luminosité est basse (~186 cd/m2) et l'espace des couleurs est assez pauvre. Donc c'est tout de suite non pour les graphistes.

Comme d'habitude sur ce genre d'écran, les angles de visions sont très pauvres. La luminosité est trop faible (devrai atteindre les 300 cd/m2) et le brillant de l'écran n'arrange rien à l'affaire. Sur les coté, l'écran est visible sur 45°. A la verticale c'est bien pire.

Performances

Le dual Core i7-2620M (2x2.70 GHz, 32nm) est dans la version les plus puissante du Aspire 3830TG. Il remplace le Core i5-2410M de la version bas de gamme. Le Core i7 que l'on retrouve dans les Toshiba's Portégé R830-10VDell's Vostro 3350Sony's Vaio VPC-Z21Q9E et Fujitsu's Lifebook S761 montrent que les 35 watt du 2620M marchent bien sur ce genre de portable. 

Le processeur monte à 3.4 GHz via Turbo Boost 2.0. Tout cela en fonction de la température et c'est là où ça coince. Le Aspire 3830TG a quelques problèmes à ce niveau.

La Geforce GT 540M, avec Optimus (désactivation du GPU dédiée au profit du GPU Intel HD Graphics 3000 en cas de mobilité). C'est la carte graphique la plus puissante possible pour un 13.3 pouces. Il y a 8 Go de RAM et un SSD avec 120 Go de capacité.

Le système de refroidissement est-il capable de refroidir convenablement le i7-2620M? Le 2620M est à 3.11 points dans Cinebench R11.5 CPU (multi core). Pareil que le 15.6 pouces Latitude E6520 ou le Dell Vostro 3550. Les 13.3 pouces avec ce CPU sont en dessous. Comme le Fujitsu Lifebook S761 ou le Sony Vaio VPC-SA2Z9E (tout deux à 3.0 points). Le MacBook Pro 13 2011-02 est à 2.6 points.

Positif: Après le stress test avec Prime95 (CPU 100%) et Furmark (GPU) le score de Cinebench reste à 3.11 points. La fréquence reste stable à 3.2 GHz (en Turbo). Verdict: Le i7-2620M peut tourner à pleine puissance, mais seul.

Quand on vérifie les performances 3D, donc en faisant suer le GPU, dans Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (BFBC2). Cinebench R10 single/multi et R11.5 multi on est seulement à 1.2 GHz. Ce qui baisse beaucoup le score. Il faut 60 secondes pour atteindre les 3.3 GHz après que le jeu soit terminé.

Pour noter à la fois le CPU, le GPU, la RAM et le SSD on utilise  PCMark Vantage et PCMark 7 avec un score respectif de 12371 et 3928 points. Le Sony Vaio VPC-SA2Z9E/B est à 10833, et 3448 points avec un SSD. Le Asus U36SD (SSD, i5)est un peu en dessous à 9431 et 2861 points respectivement dans ces tests.

Mais les grosses machines avec des processeurs quad cores plus puissant (2630QM  ou 2920XM) ne sont pas beaucoup plus puissantes. Le Alienware M18x (PCMark 7: 4579), le Fujitsu Celsius H710 WXP11DE (3695) et le XMG P501 PRO (4208). Les portables avec un 2620M sans SSD, ne dépassent pas les 2000 points (Vostro 3350).

Le Intel SSD X25-M est assez puissant. Il donne dans PCMark Vantage HDD score 21965 points. Ce qui n'est pas le maximum(30-40 000; ex: Schenker XMG A501), le Alienware M11x R3 (17701, Samsung SSD PM800 2) ou le Vaio SA2Z9E (15599, Samsung MZRPA128HMCD RAID0) sont derrière. Le Asus U36SD (21410, Intel SSD 320) a bien besoin de son SSD. LEs portables avec des disques durs conventionels (7200 rpm) peuvent aller au maximum à 7000 points (comme le Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid HDD, Toshiba Qosmio X770-10J).

La GeForce GT 540M (1024 Mo DDR3) est cadencée à 672/900 MHz (core/mémoire) est assez conventionnelle. 3DMark 2006 (1280x1024) est à 7806 points - un score typique ce genre de configuration. 3DMark Vantage est à P3829 donc en dessous de la moyenne des GT 540M avec le même CPU (~P4150). Unigine Heaven est à 13 fps,  normal pour une GT 540M.

Les vitesses de lecture/écriture sont un peu moins bonne que sur les autres SSD. 251/116 Mo/s (CrystalDiskMark) ou 251/101 Mo/s (selon AS SSD) donc en dessous du Asus U36SD donc en dessous du RAID0 du Vaio SA2Z9E (926/634 Mo/s, selon CrystalDiskMark). Le Samsung Série 9 900X3A, sans RAID0, est tout de même à 467/306 Mo/s. 

D'autres SSD sont meilleurs sur les petits fichiers. Le Crucial RealSSD C300 du XMG A501 (47 Mo/s en écriture sur des données aléatoires) ou le Samsung SSD PM810 du Alienware M14x (38 Mo/s) sont les meilleurs pour la lecture écriture de fichiers de 4Ko. Le X25-M est à 32 Mo/s dans le même test. Les vitesses sont excellentes en lecture 512K: 188 Mo/s au lieu de 172 Mo/s dans le Asus U36SD. Le Vaio SA2Z9E est à 432 Mo/s avec son RAID0, le Samsung Series 9 900X3A est à 196 Mo/s.

En Bref: Le Intel SSD X25-M G2 MLC (120 Go) n'est pas le meilleur des SSD mais c'est un produit de qualité qui est tout de même à des années lumières devant les disques durs classiques.

Performances dans les jeux

Wie wir testen - Leistung

Les jeux confirment les très bonnes performances de la Geforce GT 540M. Les résulats ne sont pas meilleurs qu'avec un Core i5. Le Core i7 n'est pas obligatoire pour les gamers32 fps sont possibles dans Battlefield: Bad Company 2 en détails élevés. Mais le Asus X43SV-VX084V avec un i5-2410M y arrive aussi. 

Dans Dirt 3, le framerate baisse énormément à cause de la baisse de fréquence du CPU à 1.2 GHzSeulement 18 fps sont possibles en détails maximum. 30 à 40 fps c'est normal pour une GT 540MDeus Ex Human Revolution tourne très bien. Mais un Packard Bell NX69 avec un i5 est à 37 fps en détails élevés.

La GT 540M reste très fluide tant qu'on ne dépasse pas les 1366x768. Mais les choses n'ont pas changé depuis le dernier test du 3830TG avec un i5 et un disque dur conventionnel. La fréquence du CPU baisse toujours dans les mauvais moments.

Bruit système

Le Aspire 3830TG est assez silencieux. Le niveau de bruit fluctue entre 29.6 et 33 dB (A) à vide donc moins fort que le le bruit ambiant. 

On ne dépassera jamais les 40 dB (A)37 dB (A) ont été mesurés à pleine puissance du CPU (Prime95).Dans 3DMark 2006, la ventilation monte à 38 dB (A). Le système se protège et baisse la fréquence du CPU en cas de trop grosse consommation totale d'énergie du système.

Température

A cause du problème de baisse de puissance du CPU les températures sont assez bonnes. A part pour les 41° Celsius au centre du clavier ce qui est trop chaud. Mais la moyenne des surfaces est à 36° Celsius ce qui est tout à fait acceptable.

Baisse des performances

Le processeur est bloqué à 1.2 GHz (normalement: 2.7 GHz) pendant notre stress test ultime (Prime95 & Furmark). Le système ne consomme que 52 watts. Avec Furmark (GPU) stoppé, la fréquence remonte à 2.7 GHz après un moment et se stabilise à 44 watts. Les test CPU seuls ne causent pas de problèmes, il faut charger le GPU et le CPU simultanément pour arriver à ce bug. L'adaptateur de 90 watts est suffisant.

Autonomie

Malgré des composants puissants, la consommation est faible. Mais on peut l'expliquer avec la baisse de puissance du CPU. Un Core i7 à 100% de charge, mais cadencé à 1.2 GHz (au lieu de 2.7 à 3.4 GHz), a donc besoin d'un fraction de son TDP (35 watts). Le 3820TG de 2010, avec un CPU 35 watts et une carte graphique puissante (HD 5650), demandait 76 watts en tout.

Ici on est à 66 watts pendant les jeux en moyenne, mais on ne comprend pas pourquoi les jeux demandent plus que les stress test CPU + GPU habituels.

A vide la consommation est entre 5.6 et 10.8 watts ce qui est très bas. Le 3820TG avec sa HD-5650 et le i5-460M consommait 8.5 à 15 watts dans le même test.

Le 3820TG (66 Wh) de 2010, avec sa HD 5650, arrive à 4:10 h d'autonomie (test WiFi). Le 3830TG (66 Wh) de May 2011 passe à 7:28 h. Notre 3830TG i7/SSD est à 6:05 h avec la même capacité de batterie de 66 watts/h. L'autonomie est plus courte mais assez longue pour sa catégorie. Le Asus U36SD-RX114V (SSD, GT 520M) était à 7:45 h.

Acer comme pour le Core i5 du Aspire TimelineX 3830TG, n'as pas su résoudre le problème de baisses de fréquence avec le Core i7-2620M (2x2.70 GHz) qui tombe à 1.2 GHz dans beaucoup de jeux récents trop gourmands.

Il n'y a vraiment que les jeux les plus gourmands qui pourront causer le problème, mais 90% des programmes ne poseront pas ce problème. Le Core i7-2620M est très puissant sans le GPU activé ici. Et avec le SSD les performances générales sont tout simplement excellentes. 

L'autonomie a baissé d'une heure par rapport à la version HDD/i5 mais reste correcte avec 6h d'autonomie possible. Mais l'écran brillant bas de gamme n'arrange rien à l'affaire.

Le Acer TimelineX 3830TG-2628G12nbb que l'on trouve dans les 1100€. Pas beaucoup de concurrence ici à part le Sony Vaio SA2Z9E/B mais il dépasse les 2000€.

Ces appareils n'ont pas le problème de baisse des performances: GT 520MAsus U36SD (SSD; 1150€); Asus U30SD (HDD, 700€).
