Et bien voilà, 2 semaine passées en compagnie de cet Asus G51J et il est à présent temps d’en tirer les conclusions. Je ne vais pas y aller par quatre chemins tant cet ordinateur portable m’a déçu. Tout d’abord la qualité globale de la machine n’est pas du niveau de ce que l’on est en droit d’attendre d’une machine à plus de 1500€. Les matériaux utilisés sont fins, très fins et semblent être à la limite de leur résistance. L’expérience du capot de l’écran en est le meilleur exemple. Certes, on ne peut pas en dire autant du reste de la machine mais l’ensemble fait tout de même très plastique.

If you want to blow away zombies but you’re not one of the beneficiaries of a trust fund or Wall Street bonus, you’ll find that the $1,499 G51J-A1 is every bit as capable as top-end rigs. The Alienware M15x offers slightly better performance and cool extras like customizable lighting, but it costs $1,874 when similarly configured to the G51J-A1. In other words, this rig is a killer value.

All in all, the G51J-A1 is great at being itself, but not so great at being your "do-it-all" 15" notebook. The keyboard is just too lackluster to be used for daily typing chores, note taking, etc., and the battery is too poor to use on the road for any real length of time. It's a portable gaming rig in a form factor that's smaller than those gigantic 17" and 18.4" machines out there and that's about it.

This slick-looking system may be more travel-friendly than the big rigs, but it doesn’t offer the kind of 3D performance that gamers crave. Stereoscopic 3D technology, which typically involves putting on a pair of 3D glasses and watching images leap out at you, is already a big hit in movies. Now, laptops are hoping to cash in on the 3D gaming market. Although the Acer Aspire 5738DG-6165 earned the distinction of being the first 3D laptop to hit the market, its visual effects ended up being more gimmick than substance. If you're a "3D" fanatic, the ASUS G51J-1B 3D has the best technology in place, but it's limited to games and costly compared to Acer's 3D laptop.

As far as 3D goes, the Asus G51J 3D is certainly a more capable machine than Acer’s 5738DZG. Not only is it more powerful, but with the active glasses it can also deliver a better 3D experience. The high price tag is the obvious stumbling block. Prices will no doubt fall if and when 3D finally takes off, but at the moment anyone looking to wave goodbye to 2D will have to pay a rather hefty premium.

Ultimately this is a great laptop, and kudos to Asus for being the first out the gates with a nVidia 3D Vision laptop. That the technology works well given the correct content demonstrates that 3D is now ready to come out of the wilderness and start enjoying some success as a mainstream technology. There are a few niggles, including the screen resolution and keyboard, but neither are a massive cause for drama.

Ces cartes graphiques devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux récents (avec quelques exceptions) en haute résolution avec un bon niveau de détail.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M:

La Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M est essentiellement une GeForce 9800M GTX plus rapide en 55nm et basée sur le noyau G92b (et donc pas comparable à la GTX 260 de bureau). Par rapport à la 9800M GTX, la GTX 260M est fabriqué en 55nm et donc un une plus grande fréquence d’horloge.

Ces cartes graphiques de milieu de gamme peuvent faire tourner tout les jeux récents de façon fluide. Les jeux gourmands ne peuvent être joués qu'avec les détails réglés sur moyen.

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M:

Même puce que la GTS 260M mais avec une fréquence plus élevée (412 contre 396 Gigaflops selon Nvidia). Elle est très performante avec sa mémoire GDDR5.

Intel Core i7:

720QM: Le Core i7-720QM est le Core i7 Quad Core de 2009 le plus lent: entre 1.6 et 2.8 GHz (grâce au mode Turbo). Il a l'avantage sur les logiciels optimisés pour plusieurs processeurs mais un peu moins bon pour les application mono core. Comparé aux autres Core i7 mobile, le 720QM ne possède que 6Mo de cache L3.

Intel Core i5:

430M: Le Core i5-430M est un dual core avec 3 Mo de cache L3 (comparé au I7-640M) avec une fréquence entre 2.26 et 2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). De plus, VT-d, trusted Execution et l'encodage AES ne sont pas sur le 430M. Mais avec l'Hyperthreading, 4 cores sont virtuellement actifs. la carte graphique intégrée (Intel HD Graphics cadencée à 500-733 MHz) avec un contrôleur mémoire DDR3.

15.6: Les écrans de 15 pouces sont la norme et sont employées sur plus de la moitié de tous les portables.
La raison pour laquelle tant de personnes possèdent des écrans de taille moyenne: cette taille n'est pas épuisante pour les yeux, n'a pas besoin de trop de courant et les ordinateurs portables peuvent rester tout à fait compacts.

77.24%: La note n'est pas convaincante. On doit considérer qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup d'ordinateurs portables qui reçoivent une note en dessous de 60%. Ce portable est en dessous de la moyenne, Nous ne conseillons pas vraiment son achat.
