Lenovo didn't shed too many features in rolling out its cheapest ThinkPad to date, the 14-inch SL400. Don't let the glossy lid fool you, there are a lot of familiar ThinkPad touches that make it a good bet for business users.

With the SL400, Lenovo has taken the best features of its iconic T-series, stripped out the fluff, and put a nice gloss (literally) on the final product. Unfortunately, it could use a little more polishing on the inside, given the unusually long nag list that we usually don’t find with Lenovo notebooks. But a few pinholes won’t sink this sturdy business notebook, and we would definitely recommend it to power users who don’t mind figuratively grinding a few rough edges off the notebook themselves. Considering these machines can be had for as little as $639 in usable configurations, they may be some of the most attractive notebooks in Lenovo’s line for budget-minded business buyers.

Overall, there is a lot we can say in favor of the ThinkPad SL400. Lenovo is offering a solid budget ThinkPad for only $799 and also offering pre-configured models with better performance and features for $1,249 or less. That said, like most notebooks in the small business class, the SL400 suffers from cheap plastics used in the chassis construction, weak built-in speakers, and an overall build that is slightly thicker and heaver than needed. As it stands now, there are a number of reasons you might want to pick up an SL400 rather than a similar notebook from the Dell Vostro lineup or Toshiba Satellite Pro line. That said, diehard ThinkPad owners might criticize the glossy lid, lack of lid latch, and the type of plastics used in some places. The performance of our test configuration suggests the SL400 packs enough raw power to satisfy most small business owners, but it's clear that the new SL series isn't the same ThinkPad we've seen before.

Not only does the SL400 offer plenty of processing power and battery life but also great support and wireless performance. The slow hard drive and obstructed ports mar an otherwise superior system. However, it’s easy to look past these warts and recommend the SL400.

We're usually big fans of Lenovo's no-nonsense approach to producing laptops. Its thin and light ThinkPad X300 is still one of our favourite ultraportables, some 16 month after its initial release and, last month, its business workstation - the T500 - also impressed us. This month, things have taken a different tack entirely, from the seriously expensive T-series to the ultra-cheap IdeaPad S10e and this - another reasonably-priced laptop, the SL500, which at ?434 exc VAT is less than half the price of the T500. Initially at least there's no discernible drop in quality, either. Lenovo cuts the price, but not the quality of its ThinkPad laptops and the result is a simply stunning budget machine.

Most users won’t notice any differences between SL and pricier series of ThinkPad notebooks which is proof that Lenovo has done its homework very well. We encountered few problems with our sample (trackpoint and fan control) but we believe that those will be solved in one of next updates. With these problems solved, Lenovo ThinkPad SL300 will become very attractive model, although even with these problems it deserves our recommendation especially if you seek a model of notebook with long autonomy.

Day to day, I had very few complaints about the ThinkPad SL300. Lenovo may have dropped the cost of the product and moved it to a size that is new to the ThinkPads (aside from the X300/X301) but the fundamentals are still strong. As noted in the SL400 review, the SL series makes changes from the ThinkPad design that so many people know and love, but it is far from the disaster that many people forecasted. You get the quality and performance you want, but ditch some of the high-end features that you don’t necessarily need.

Lenovo: Lenovo Group Limited est le plus important de Chine et quatrième plus grand fabricant mondial d'ordinateurs personnels. Lenovo produit des PC de bureau, portables, serveurs, ordinateurs de poche, appareils d'imagerie, et téléphones mobiles. Lenovo fournit également l'intégration de technologies de l'information et des services de soutien, et de son unité QDI offre des fabrications sous contrat. Ses sièges exécutifs sont situés en Chine et aux Etats-Unis. Il est repris à Hong Kong. Lenovo a été créé en 1984 comme spin-off de l'Académie chinoise des Sciences de l'unité des nouvelles technologies. L'entreprise a commencé comme un revendeur, du distributeur et, plus tard, CM pour les marques, dont IBM, l'entrée sur le marché chinois. Lenovo critiques

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M G: Une 8400M GS améliorée, fabriquée en 65nm et montre quelques performances en plus grâce aux améliorations internes.

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: Comparé à la 9300M G, la GS n’as que 8 unified shaders mais elle est plus rapide. Donc les perfroamnces devraient être similaires selon Nvidia. Elle supporte le Hybrid-SLI (GeForceBoost et HybridPower) avec la Nvidia 9100M G et la PureVideo HD (VP3).

La plupart des jeux pas trop demandants actuels peuvent tourner de façon fluide. soyez prêts à endurer un rendu graphique assez moche à cause de la basse résolution et des détails au minimum. Par ailleurs ces cartes sont suffisantes pour un travail de bureau et le visionnage de vidéos (pas évident pour la vidéo HD).

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Carte graphique intégrée (Mémoire partagée) livrée avec le chipset GM45(Montevina). Grâce à deux shaders de plus et une vitesse plus élevée, beaucoup plus rapide que la GMA X3100. Mais toujours pas envisageable pour les joueurs (Les jeux DirectX 10 ne seront pas jouable ou alors à de très faibles résolutions). Le processeur vidéo permet de décoder la HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , pour la lecture BluRay sur des processeurs plus lents.

Intel Core 2 Duo:

C'est le successeur du Core Duo avec des pipelines 5-20% plus rapides sans consommation supplémentaire. Comme une addition à la conception du core duo là existe un quatrième décodeur, une SSE-unité amplifiée et une unité logique arithmétique additionnelle (ALU). Le core 2 duo pour ordinateurs portables est identique aux processeurs de core 2 duo d'ordinateur de bureau mais les portables fonctionnent avec des tensions inférieures et une vitesse de Frontside. L'exécution des portables également synchronisés est 20-25% inférieure à des ordinateur de bureau en raison de fréquence d’horloge inférieure de Frontside et plus lents de disques durs.

P8400: Dual core de milieu de gamme avec un TDP de 25 Watt. Pour les gamers ce ne sera pas suffisant.

P8600: Un dual core puissant et pas cher. Suffisant pour la plupart des applications avec un TDP de 25W TDP donc compatible avec les portables les plus mobiles.

13.3: Ce format d'affichage peut s'appeler le mini grand format pour petits portables.
L'avantage est que le subnotebook peut être  de petite dimension et peut être porté facilement. de plus Un petit écran a un avantage, il a besoin de peu de courant, ce qui améliore le temps d'exécution de batterie et en conséquence la mobilité. L'inconvénient est que la lecture des textes est épuisante pour les yeux. Les hautes résolutions sont a proscrire.
