Jusqu’à maintenant, l’intégration de processeurs peu énergivores dans une station de travail n’a jamais trop marché. Le Lenovo ThinkPad P52s est le premier portable avec lequel ce concept commence à décoller.

Ceci principalement parce que la génération de processeurs ULV Kaby Lake Refresh a fait un grand bon en avant en termes de performances. Et même si celles-ci sont encore loin de celles des processeurs Coffee Lake de 45 Watt, elles sont suffisantes pour répondre aux besoins minimum d’une station de travail. De plus, les performances de ce processeur dans le P52s sont supérieures à la moyenne, et significativement meilleures que dans le ZBook 15u G5. Le P52s possède également un certain nombre de fonctionnalités en plus du ThinkPad T580, comme un châssis robuste avec une maintenance aisée, les périphériques d’entrée ThinkPad populaires, et une longue garantie. A la différence du T580, le P52s possède une bonne autonomie, ainsi que la technologie PowerBridge, qui offre de nombreux avantages.

Ironiquement, la Quadro P500, seule véritable différence entre le P52s et le ThinkPad T580, est en même temps la principale faiblesse de l’appareil : le GPU Quadro ne peut rivaliser avec la GeForce MX150, à cause du nombre limité de shaders. Bien sûr, certaines faiblesses du T580 ont été reportées sur le P52s, comme le long temps de charge et la chauffe élevée en cas de sollicitations. L’écran de notre P52s n’a qu’une résolution Full HD, et certaines spécifications sont bien supérieures à celles indiquées par Lenovo - comme le contraste élevé. La couverture de l’espace colorimétrique est cependant comme toujours mauvaise, ce qui est plutôt constant avec les stations de travail.

Nous pouvons recommander le ThinkPad P52s de Lenovo, mais seulement pour un petit groupe de clients, la Quadro P500 n’étant tout simplement pas assez puissante.

Le ThinkPad P52s bat dans de nombreux domaines des concurrents directs tel le HP ZBook 15u - seuls la gestion de la chauffe et le ressenti du châssis sont meilleurs dans le ZBook. Mais il ne satisfera qu’un nombre réduit de clients, le ThinkPad T580 ayant toutes les qualités du P52s et une meilleure carte graphique. Seuls les utilisateurs de logiciels de CAO pourraient préférer le P52s - mais ils devraient se demander s’ils ne devraient pas mieux acheter une station de travail plus épaisse et plus lourde, avec de meilleurs processeur et carte graphique. Cela limite la cible aux utilisateurs qui ont besoin d’une bonne autonomie et d’une carte graphique dédiée à la CAO.
