Epée à deux tranchants. Le gros Sabre de 17 pouces de Gigabyte vient avec une promesse, celle de combiner un nouveau processeur hexacœur puissant et une GTX 1060, ce qui en fait un remplaçant d’ordinateur de bureau complet, avec des capacités de jeu sans compromis. Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion)

Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.
Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) décelé 25000 Hz ≤ 20 Niveau de luminosité

Le rétroéclairage de l'écran scintille à la fréquence de 25000 Hz (certainement du fait de l'utilisation d'une MDI - Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) à un niveau de luminosité inférieur ou égal à 20 % . Aucun scintillement ne devrait être perceptible au-dessus de cette valeur.

La fréquence de rafraîchissement de 25000 Hz est élevée, la grande majorité des utilisateurs ne devrait pas percevoir de scintillements et être sujette à une fatigue oculaire accrue.

En comparaison, 51 % des appareils testés n'emploient pas MDI pour assombrir leur écran. Nous avons relevé une moyenne à 18242 (minimum : 5 - maximum : 2500000) Hz dans le cas où une MDI était active.

Au final, le Gigabyte Sabre 17 WV8 est un bon appareil de remplacement de PC de bureau, qui peut gérer presque n’importe quelle tâche. Il fait bien les choses, mais déçoit dans un domaine crucial, celui du jeu.

L’écran est clairement conçu pour le jeu, et propose de bons temps de réaction, mais il manque quand même de couleurs vives. Dans presque tous les domaines, les performances de l’appareil sont satisfaisantes - mis à part pour le jeu, dans lequel ses concurrents font mieux. Le Sabre l’emporte sur ses concurrents dans les autres domaines, par exemple dans les tests Cinebench. Sa gestion énergétique est également bonne. Même en cas de sollicitations, le Gigabyte est toujours frais et silencieux. Il gagne des points supplémentaires au niveau de la consommation et de l’autonomie. Sa connectivité abondante pour des écrans externes est également appréciable.

Le Sabre mérite cependant des critiques quand on en arrive au jeu, et au niveau sonore de ses haut-parleurs. Le Sabre 17 paraît perd alors bêtement des points… L’appareil peut être acheté pour environ 1 500 €.

Ceux qui seraient intéressés par un portable économe en énergie remplaçant un PC de bureau pourront être séduits par le Sabre 17. Mais ils ne doivent pas faire une priorité du jeu, sans quoi ils devraient chercher une alternative.
