Le temps de réponse d'un écran mesure la rapidité à laquelle l'écran est capable de changer une couleur pour une autre. Un temps de réponse élevé se traduit par une image floutée pour les objets en mouvement. Les joueurs bénéficieront de faibles latences d'affichage en jeu.

Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion)

Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.
Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) décelé 250 Hz ≤ 10 Niveau de luminosité

Le rétroéclairage de l'écran scintille à la fréquence de 250 Hz (certainement du fait de l'utilisation d'une MDI - Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) à un niveau de luminosité inférieur ou égal à 10 % . Aucun scintillement ne devrait être perceptible au-dessus de cette valeur.

La fréquence de rafraîchissement de 250 Hz est relativement faible, les personnes les plus sensibles devraient percevoir un scintillement et être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire accrue (avec le niveau de luminosité indiqué)

En comparaison, 51 % des appareils testés n'emploient pas MDI pour assombrir leur écran. Nous avons relevé une moyenne à 9331 (minimum : 43 - maximum : 142900) Hz dans le cas où une MDI était active.

Le TravelMate X514 répond à nos attentes, et certainement à celles d’Acer. Le portable atteint un bon équilibre entre compacité et légèreté tout en ayant assez de puissances pour les tâches classiques de bureautique. L’appareil possède également une autonomie correcte, sans être alourdi par une grosse batterie.

L’écran est cependant plus mitigé. D’un côté, il reproduit les couleurs de façon vive et fidèle, ce qui séduira les créatifs ou ceux qui aiment regarder des vidéos en déplacement. Mais d’un autre côté, sa luminosité maximale est trop faible pour un appareil qui est conçu pour être utilisé en déplacements, ce qui est dommage.

L’Acer TravelMate X514-51-511Q est un portable professionnel léger et compact efficace, qui se comporte bien dans la plupart des domaines.

Cependant, il faut noter les défauts d’un design aussi compact. D’abord, Acer a omis des fonctionnalités professionnelles comme le port Ethernet, ce qui nécessitera un adaptateur pour avoir une connexion Internet filaire. Ensuite Acer a équipé l’appareil d’une batterie relativement petite, ce qui empêchera certainement de tenir une journée de travail intensif. Bien que les 36 Wh permettent de maintenir l’appareil sous le kilogramme, LG a pu équiper sa série Gram de 14 pouces de batteries bien plus grosses tout en restant sous cette limite.
